5-Stars just isn't enough 6/12/2011

I really don't know what I can say about this place that does it justice. Bottlerock is hands-down THE BEST wine restaurant in the westside...forget being the best in culver. Service = Awesome, personal, friendly. Food = OMG. OMG. Fantastically delicious. They know us by name now before we even have a chance to identify ourselves over the phone when making reservations. Who does that!? 5-Stars just isn't enough. more

great wine and cheese place 6/3/2011

how can you go wrong with agood glass of wine and plate of fine cheese. I highly recommend this place. My favorite place to chill with friends and a good cab. more

Thanks But No Thanks 3/31/2009

The servings for three people were collectively less than a tiny snack. Pros: Wine was OK; Service was fair Cons: portions were miniscule; I would be embarrassed to serve som more

overpriced 9/24/2008

Unless you know nothing about wine you are better off going to Trader Joes and picking up a few good bottles and snacks. This place is well overpriced for what you get. I prefer going to what used to be called Vinum but is now part of Ugo. Much better place and much more fun (they even play old Italian movies on the wall) . Bottlerock is a good idea gone bad. The wine selection is mediocre and all the food is made in toaster oven (you can watch the cook if you don't believe me). Ontop of that they charge way more than its worth. Save your hard earned money. Cons: price more

I love this place. 8/11/2008

This place has a lot of good attributes and, overall, an awesome staff (there are some exceptions, of course, but that's par for the course). I am a regular, and will continue to go back. more

Best grilled cheese ever! 5/15/2008

Last Friday two coworkers and I went to BottleRock for lunch around noon and it was dead quiet, which was perfect for us since we only had one hour. We all ordered the Black Truffled Grilled Cheese and decided it was the best we've ever had. I also had a glass of the Dom. Georges Brunet Vouvray, France, recommended by the server because I said I liked sweet wine (but not dessert sweet), and was very happy with it. All-in-all, grilled cheese for $8 is a little steep, but when the craving hits, I'll know to spend my money wisely and satisfy the craving. (Our grilled cheese came with a side salad.) Pros: best grilled cheese ever!, not busy during lunchtime Cons: a little pricey more

SNOOZE FEST 5/6/2008

My husband and I came back from Napa and decided to continue our magical wine country experience by trying a wine bar near our home. There was a lot of buzz about Bottle Rock, so we went there after a movie. The entire experience was just below average......sorry. The server was not extremely knowledgeable, the service was slow and a bit too distant for our taste. The food was expectedly boring and typical wine bar cuisine. Maybe we had high expectations. Maybe it was a bad night, but we haven't had the desire to try it again and we have not gone out of our way to tell anyone about it. Pros: downtown Culver City - easy parking Cons: uncomfortable metal chairs, boring food, boring and distant staff more

BottleJoxers 1/30/2008

I've been going to Bottlerock off-and-on since it's opening about 2 years ago, and after having lived in Culver City for 7 years, I was thrilled at the concept and realization of Bottlerock. However, the last time was pretty much the last straw. It's not that it's a bad place, it's just that it is WAY OVERRATED, OVERPRICED, with really POOR POURS. My girlfriend and I ordered 2 $11 glasses, which amounted to just a little more than a tasting - we ended up buying the bottle so as not to feel cheated (not a great way to start the night). The cheese plate was also less than generous - far less, in fact - however it did taste good. I just can't get over the concept of this place: the decor vs. the clientele vs. the music. I get that ""rock"" is in the title of this place, but how does one enjoy a $50 glass while listening to ""Dr. Feelgood""??? The crowd was one notch higher than what one could see at Joxer Daly's - which is where this place is headed. There are much better options in the area now. Goodbye, BottlleJoxers! Pros: Selection Cons: Prices and Quantity served more

Great for the rate! 11/8/2007

We went on a Saturday afternoon for the wine tasting. It's a cheap alternative to tasting a small wine selection at some of the more expensive places. The waitress watched closely and popped up each time we finished a glass and the food was good enough for the setting. more

BottleRock 10/28/2007

Sorry, I was disappointed for a number of reasons. The service was mediocre, I found the servers to be less than knowledgeable on wine - it's a WINE BAR!! The temperature of the wine was off - red wine should not be warm. Finally, a cheese plate should give you samples of cheese, not a slice per sample. I've been to high end restaurants and these people do not know what they are doing. Was disappointed and I think they are very overrated. more

Bottlerock Should hire new management 9/1/2007

So we heard about this place ,and went with a group of friends few nights ago.Since we were seven in the group, the bald manager told us an hour wait for a table. Not only we were treated pretty bad but his attitude is horrible towards customers. He has an accent, perhaps he doesn't speak good english or doesn't care about customers. We left within few minutes and wont be back. This place needs to get better management and people who listen to customers, rather than arguing with them. Pros: what? Cons: Bald manager with bad attitude more

Best wine bar in LA, period! 8/16/2007

Oh boy! Where do I start? Okay, last Tuesday I went there with a date. I have known Kim, the manager, for a long time. He greeted us and he asked me what we were in the mood for. I told him we wanted to try something great from the Rhone Valley. Two minutes later he brought a bottle of Hermitage 2003. It was perfect! Kim knows my palate and I trust his judgment. He is always providing value. In other words, he offers you the best wine for an incredible price! Bottlerock's concept is amazing. You can open any of the 800 hundred bottles there, as long as you commit to two glasses. That is unbeatable! Thank God LA has finally come up with the best place for the best vino! Keep it up, friends. I will be there next week! Pros: 800 bottles to choose from Cons: An overwhelming sense of anxiety to try them all more

Best customer service 7/25/2007

Bottle Rock.... ""ROCKS"" We were in this past weekend. We had the best costumer service experience. We had the pleasure of Kim taking us through our wine experience. We learned more from him then any wine tasting we have ever been to. This place was really busy that night and still he took the time to explain to us what we needed to know. Bottom line... Kim is exceptional! Thank you so much!!! Pros: great knowlege on wine Cons: can be very crowed more

great wine and cheese 7/16/2007

Love bottlerock!! I have been there a few times, and have always enjoyed myself. The cheese selection is amazing...i tried a 3 cheese tasting plate, and paired with a really nice cabernet that was recommended by the waiter, it was truly tasty! I just tried their new grilled cheese too, and it's to die for! Service is wonderful. Really helpful, especially for someone like me, who wants to venture out and try new wines. great atmosphere too. I took my girlfriend there, and she loves it. Romantic but fun too. Great place. Pros: wine, cheese, service, atmosphere more

Love the wine!!! 7/15/2007

My boyfriend and I stopped by on an afternoon walk around Culver City. The manager, Kim, helped us pick out a few bottles. Not only was he helpful and fun to deal with, but we ended up with some amazing wine. We'll be back...yummy! Pros: wonderful service and wine Cons: don't know more

Great celebratory venue! 7/15/2007

This is the first time I've written a review because, like most of us, time is a commodity. I felt compelled to in this case as BottleRock helped make my birthday celebration awesome. The service was stellar. The Manager was extremely attentive. The wine suggestions were spot on. My wife and I plan on returning whenever we're looking for a fun night out and/or a great bottle of wine. Pros: knowledgeable staff, terrific service Cons: minimal more

Tasty tapas, nice wine selection. Slow service and pricey 6/24/2007

Went there 2 weeks ago with a buddy from work expecting the worst after reading all the reviews about them. We went on a Wed. night and the place was fairly full, but we were able to get a table and some uncomfortable stools right away. It took a few minutes to get the waiter or anyone to get a menu, after asking for it, 2 guys behind the bar, 1 waiter and 1 female runner/busboy type for the whole place seemed to lend credence to other reviews that service was lacking. No more so than having to wave down the waiter for whatever we needed and him not stopping by our table very often. Tapas and wine go pretty quick so one would expect a few more stops by the table would be nice, but granted it was only that 1 waiter. We had ordered caprese and a turkey melt with a glass of merlot and brunello. I was pleasantly surprised by how tasty the tapas were so much so that we ordered another round of the same ones. I was disappointed that for 10 and 14 bucks, that they couldn't fill the wine glasses up a little more. The pourings were right at the halfway point in the glasses. I would recommend this place in definite moderation due to the small tapas and priciness. Service was slow, but nothing to tear them a new one over. Pros: Tasty food, good wine selection Cons: Slow service, uncomfortable chairs, pricey more

just a note... 6/6/2007

last week i went to bottle rock on saturday night. i love this place but something happened that really disturbed me and had to post. there is a new manager there and i believe he has no personal skills for a bar/restaurant. he was rude to the patrons, usy doing nothing and at one point was screaming at our server on the floor in front of the customers for what i heard to be a just nonsense. if the manager reads this, please get it together and be a professional. more

2nd Time, a Better Time 5/21/2007

This past weekend, my girlfriends and I stopped by Bottle Rock after a horrific time we had back in January. We remembered the food taking forever and our server being a bit rude and talking way too fast. To our delight, our group had a great time. Our server was patient with us and gave some great suggestions to pair with our cheeses. It seems now a more relaxed enviornment and great staff. Go to this place, you will LOVE IT!!! Pros: great wine, food and staff more

Unique, wonderful and full of energy! 5/17/2007

We are wine lovers, foodies and tend to be quite critical, in every sense of the word! I had been to BR once before and remembered how warm and informative the Sommeiler was. It was my boyfriend, and my close friend and myself on a Saturday night. We sat down and waited about 3 minutes before our waiter told us he would be right with us and another two minutes before he finally made his way to our table with menus. He then explained that one of their employees had been in a terrible traffic accident, so they were one man short, he then apologized for not getting to us quicker, and he gave us menus. Very genuine, very polite, and very nice. Soon the Sommelier stopped by. We told him what type of wines we were interested in trying and he gave us some wonderful suggestions! We wanted to pair our wine with cheeses, and he gave us suggestions in that department too! Yes, the service was slower than normal, but everyone was so friendly, and the music was great...and good wine should not be rushed anyway! We enjoyed the wine he suggested, so much that we took two bottles home. Prices are also VERY reasonable. Pros: informative wait-staff, on-site Sommelier, great music, good prices Cons: Chairs could be a bit more comfy more
