Book Cellar

I stopped in after reading on an "old website" according to someone who works there and was misinformed about the process in which books are bought and sold. I was under the impression as per one of their websites that books could be bought from me and that I had the choice to receive either a quarter of their value or more if I were to choose to keep the dollar amount as in store credit. I first accepted the credit, it sounded wonderful 80+ dollars worth, WOW! Not really when I stopped to consider their other policy that any used book in the store could be mine for "fifty percent off" since half of the price of the book would be covered with my store credit and the other half I would have to pay in cash. So I essentially "donated" 80+ dollars worth of books only to have to spend another 80+ dollars in cash to recoup my store credit????? I was told that I could not have my books back since they have no idea what I had brought in less than 24 hrs prior????and that they best they could do would be to offer me a donation receipt for tax purposes. So in the end I did as a matter of fact donate a good amount of impeccable books for their pure profit. I will never be returning too or recommend this store. I would rather buy the same caliber and condidtion of used books at Sister Carmen, Goodwill or ARC for a fraction of the price and help a cause with a purpose not someone's pocketbook. more

I visited this store, suggested by a friend. They found a book I had been searching for everywhere. I have also decided to have a few of my collected books evaluated. They have every service the big stores have with a much bigger heart. A small store but books in every category I wanted to look at, and the prices were great! more

I had the best experience here! The staff were friendly and helpful. I could not remember the author or title but the staff helped me and they had the book I needed plus some. I do not live in Louisville but make sure to stop by this quaint store. Stores like these are a thing of the past and we need to support their independent spirit. The Book Cellar recommended a book and I loved it so much I had them put me on their reading list. more

Independent book shops are kind of a rare species nowadays, and it can be difficult to find a good one. While you can always check out the pseudo-megaplex that is The Tattered Cover, if you are looking for something a bit more cozy, you should definitely give The Book Cellar a look. While it doesn't have the largest selection around, it does have an extremely helpful staff that is always willing to assist you in obtaining those hard-to-find books. more
