I was suprised to see a review done in October since BooCoo has appearantly shuttered its doors. This is an unfortunate loss for the Metro-Detroit dining scene and particularly for my Royal Oak neighborhood. I thought Boocoo could be the cornerstone to a resurgance in North Royal Oak businesses and entertainment options. Not so. Instead I get a combo Dunkin Donuts (love the coffee though) and Baskin Robbins. Boocoo no boohoo. Sorry had to be done. more

Unique French cuisine - prefect for a special occasion! 10/22/2006

My husband and I love this restaurant. If you're looking for a special dining experience complete with unique food/sauce combinations, excellent service, romantic ambiance & a great wine selection, you MUST try this restaurant! The soups are always fabulous (different every time, but I've had the pea, summer squash & tomato bisque) and the salads fresh & crisp with delicious house made dressings! The entrees have fantastic presentation & unique combinations of uncommon vegetables, unique starches (turnips, gnocchi, sweet potatos, etc), drizzled with rich sauces that compliment the featured mea, poultry or seafood. We've had the braised duck, which has to be one of my favorite dishes there and a homemade ravioli dish that was just delicious! They also have a martini bar downstairs that has great live music! There's been a big band (who were exceptional) and a jazz band on a couple occasions! Definitely a place to spend an entire evening out with someone special - reservations highly recommended! Pros: Authentic, unique & delicious French cuisine! Accomodated our work Christmas Party! Cons: Pricy - bill could run you well into the $100's for two people without drinks. more

Tantalizing experience 4/14/2006

The antipasto appetiser was absolutely brilliant. Served on a plank board, this starter was breathtaking in both appearance and taste. To compliment the spicyness of the meats, sweet, fresh fruit was served on the platter as well. The french onion soup was wonderful, the bread was fresh and the service was outstanding. Serving only 2 specials, I chose the angel hair pasta with crab and shrimp in a lobster cream sauce. It was heavenly. I enjoyed the fresh vegetables running through the creamy pasta. At times I felt as if it may have been too salty for my taste, but I still enjoyed it nonetheless. Pros: Amazing Service, Highest quality food Cons: strange decor more

Not a bad start 8/10/2004

After hearing mixed reviews from friends, I tried Boocoo on a weekday evening. Yes, the service was iffy, as warned, and the lack of attention to detail (old food pressed into the napkin...PLEASE) knocked it out of a top tier experience. However, the food was not bad and I highly recommend the antipasto. My filet was done perfectly as ordered and the accompaniments (creme fraiche potatoes and spinach) were very tasty. I hear the live music is good. The bar, though slow, produced good drinks. I'd go back, but not rush to go back. Pros: Atmosphere more

Boocoo so so 1/17/2004

The ambience is great. The food was dazzling at first, but fell into the ok that's enough. The prices are steep for the overall experience. The basement was great. They had a band playing - totally different from the main restaurant. Pros: Ambience, Band in basement, Can make reservation Cons: Price, Food blends away more

  • In Short
Seating at boocoo is divided into levels, the lowest being the most intimate and allowing couples to cozy up beside a crackling fireplace, and the upper lending itself well to groups. The lighting is low, and antique circus billboards adorn several walls add a bit of drama to the mix. Gourmet pizzas and pastas feature seasonal flavors, while entrees include braised veal osso buco, seared maple-leaf duck breast, and crispy stuffed lemon sole.
