Take Bocachica out of LES 5/4/2012

I've been a customer of this restaurant for the past four years, I'm a lover of Latin cuisine. But today I had the worst experience in my life. I made a complaint to one of the waitresses about how salty the appetizer was, she was willing to change the plate and a little after, one of the owners came back to tell me that she did not think that the appetizer was that salty, ""Latinos cook like that (with lots of salt), maybe this is not the restaurant for you"" I replied, that I was a Latina and that I don't like salty foods, then the owner started questioning me about my health and making assumptions that I have high blood pressure because I'm Latina and my weight. Very disappointing for a restaurant in the LES to treat their customer like that. The Lower East Side is a community created by Latinos, it is not fair when people from other cultures come here to judge our own... If you are a Latino stand for your own and boycott Bocachica... This is our neighborhood wie will not be pushed out. Never again I will go to Bocachica, I hope that all Latinos can read this message and support... Take Bocachica out the LES. more

Delicious Fusion! 7/20/2008

I came with a large group on Friday night, but there was delicious sangria so the 30 minute was no big deal. The food was really, really good (sweet plaintains filled with spicy beef are small, but every perfect bite counts!). The menu truly is a terrific blend of fusion food, so whether you want a burrito, mango gazpacho, or tostones they've got it in some delicous way! Pros: Great fusion Cons: Loud more

Yummy, delicious, & aromatic!! 5/24/2008

I've been to many spanish restaurants and I must say that Boca Chica was one of the best. The waiter/waitress were extremely fast and efficient. The food was amazing!!! It was layed out beautifully and smelled so good. Well worth the wait. I went there on a Saturday, and it was packed. I would definitely go there again!! Pros: The Ropa Vieja was delicious Cons: Tight seating more

two words: shrimp ticul 7/26/2007

yum-eeee.\r \r ambiance: festive, fun, loud and boisterous - but not obnoxious, laid-back, colorful\r \r prices: a little pricey, but not TOO bad\r \r food: last night was my first time... i tried the shrimp ticul [green chili sauce with red onions and lime juice] accompanied by black beans, white rice and a type of coleslaw salad. The shrimp was absolutely ridiculously amazingly deliciously spicy and fresh. It was SO good and flavorful. I highly recommend this dish if you can handle your mouth being on fire. \r \r service: strictly business - good speed, was not rushed, efficient, no extra chatter, water was filled regularly\r \r meal came out to about $24 including a pacifico, tax, and tip\r Pros: overall: most excellent Cons: a little overpriced - but maybe it's because I live in bklyn more

good casual spot 2/9/2007

came her friday night. arrived around 8 and had to wait 30 mins or so for a table. shared the shrimp quesaditas which were good but probably had like one shrimp in it. shared a pitcher of white sangria which was a lil bit too sweet and not too heavy on the alcohol. i had the ropa vieja which was good. served with black beans, white rice and some salad. my friend had one of their specials.. chicken with sweet potato? It was ok but the chicken was a little bland and felt a lil bit under cooked?? Everything smelled really good tho and the portions are pretty big. Shared teh chocolate bread pudding which was very good. Pretty much like a chocolate cake the size of a baseball. The bill came to $61 total after tax. Although the wait was annoying, the food was good so i might be back for a regular-night out kind of dinner. Pros: smells, taste, decent price Cons: long wait, tables too close together more

Great Place!!!! 12/14/2006

Boca Chica (small mouth) is a great place. The food is very good, try the Steak!!\r I go here at least 2-3 a week and never had a bad time. Its very fun place. Bar scene gets really good too\r on the weekends theres a little wait but having drinks at the bar makes time go by fast. service is always good. Dont let the long waits push you away from this fun/hip place. Pros: Great Food, Great Drinks, Good Prices, reservations only from Sunday- Thursday Cons: Music sounds like oldies should be updated more salsa please!! No reservations Fri-Sat more

Great consistancy for years 11/10/2006

All the fish specials and shrimp dishes are fantastic. I've been going at least once every other week for years and the food is always first rate. I always bring out of town friends here and it never disappoints. The dipping sauce that comes with the complimentary plantains is amazing. Great, friendly staff as well. Pros: Fish/Shrimp Dishes Cons: Busy on weekend evenings, no reservations more

Great all-around 11/3/2006

Great ambiance, great drinks, great food in generous portions, what more can you ask for? All I would say is that you should come early because they don't take reservations. I had about an hour of a wait which I didn't even mind because I hung out at the bar and had some great drinks. Overall a class act. Pros: Ambiance, food & drinks, service Cons: A bit of a wait, just arrive earlier than you would like to eat, and you'll be fine. more

Best place for a weeknight date!!! 11/1/2006

My girlfriend and I started going here a few years ago. We are in at least twice a month ever since. The food is always great. Drinks good and strong. Service is top knotch. Friday and Saturday night get kind of loud and sometimes a long wait. But that is true of any place, for Fridays and Saturdays, that is this good. Pros: Food, service, drinks. Cons: Friday and Saturday nights more

Awful!!! Terrible service - VERY RUDE!! 10/22/2006

We recently went last Saturday, October 21, 2006, with a group of 13 people. We had called ahead to make reservations, but we were told we could not, however, we were told to arrive at around 6:30 to accommodate our party. Once we got there, 8 of 13 in our group, the hostess was rude and unprofessional. Her attitude did not change all night. We were finally able to sit when person number 11 arrived, but no sooner, the hostess would not sit our party, yet was angry that we were ""blocking"" her way. 13 people were sat on 3 small tables. The food was ok - not typical at all - I ordered an alleged Dominican dish (chicharrones de pollo) - it was far from what I ordered - it was just fried chicken, not chicharrones. After we ate dinner, 2 of our friends left - the rude hostess approached and wanted to take a table away since ""you are only 11 now"". We were not even allowed to order dessert nor coffee (which we were going to). I will NEVER go to this place. Pros: Mojitos were good Cons: SERVICE IS AWFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!! more

Fun, Colorful, Yummy 8/8/2006

Great ambience, fun and quirky crowd and pretty good food. Not great food, but filling and satisfying. Good sangrias and mojitos. The steak sandwich is very good as is shrimp ceviche (although a ceviche is a wrong term since the shimp is actually cooked, not marinated).\r Pros: good food, nice ambience Cons: a bit overpriced for this kind of food more

Expensive for the location but fun and accommodating 7/30/2006

We spent $40 a piece here. The dinner was really good, but that is somewhat pricey for the Lower East Side. The big expense was the great Xingu Beer at $6.50 a pop. The spicy shrimp was a welcome change in a city full of food wimps. All the dishes were delicious, and the staff was really accommodating of our rearranging the furniture as we grew. Dessert? The pineapple with rum sauce! Come before 7 if you want to be sure of a seat. Yowsah! --Eat club is a roving group of NYC gluttons. Pros: great food, accommodating staff Cons: a bit pricey for the neighborhood more

Great casual date spot 7/5/2006

When my boyfriend and I were going on our first date I went on citysearch to find a good inexpensive date spot. I chose Boca Chica and I am so happy I did. The place is very small and but also very colorful and festive. The food is authentic and DELICIOUS. My boyfriend is not very adventurous when it comes to food but he loved the Arroz con Pollo and even ate some of my Ropa Vieja. This is not a trendy hopping bar the attitude of the place is that more of a cafe than a restaurant but it is very good food for a very good price and the decor puts you in a great mood. Plus if you want to check out the bar scene afterwards it is in a great location. There are probably six tables and one booth in the entire place but the staff does not rush you out, Try the Flan and the white sangria- both delicious! My boyfriend and I have been together over a year now and he still suggests Boca Chica everytime we plan to go out to eat. Pros: Delicious authentic food more

Great Brazilian food 6/22/2006

I love this place. I've been here lots of time and try to bring anyone who hasn't tried it. The food is fresh, flavorful and delicious. I don't know how else to describe it.\r It's a bar/restaurant, so it's loud music, crowded around the bar.\r Free plaintains and bean dip fills you up, so don't indulge.\r Their drinks are great and service is quick. Pros: Great food, drinks. Cons: 1 Bathroom, get's crowded and loud later in the evenings more

THIS PLACE IS DRRREAMY!!! :) 6/17/2006

I have literally dreamt about the food here!!! Everything is delicious!! Ivan, the bartender, is great! The atmosphere is always fun. It's a great place to take out-of-towners! Not expensive and portions are big. I LOVE LOVE LOVE BOCA CHICA!!! :) Pros: EVERYTHING Cons: never had one yet! more

Great food, great environment, tiny though 4/12/2006

This place is one of my favorites. The food is great. The fried plantains and dip they give you at the table are delicious and different. The drinks are REALLY strong. I cant help but order the Pastel de Choclo everytime, it's so good. The only thing is that it's tiny so a group of 2 is definitely best here. And the bar is small too, so waiting for a table can be uncomfortable. more

Good Spanish styled food 1/14/2006

We celebrated a friends birthday there last night. We selected Boca Chica because there were so many bar/lounges within walking distant from it. Before hand we were told that they do not take reservations on Saturday nights and the wait could be around 1hour anytime after 8pm for large parties. We thought that was an inconvience but were told we could hang out at the bar and wait. When we got there we realized why they dont take reservations, the place is tiny. However we were seated pretty quickly. The food was enjoyable, the food was well seasoned and cooked and we had everything from coconut shrimp, steak and chicken. The sangria was kind of bland. They did bring out a piece of cake with a candle on it for my friend which was a cute added touch. Overall we enjoyed our time at Boca Chica. Pros: good food, inexpensive, low key Cons: loud, crowded more

Truly a bocalicious experience! 1/4/2006

This place can get pretty busy, so I would suggest making reservations. We had to wait about 45min-1h before we were seated, but they were kind enough to give us any one appetizer from the menu on the house due to the long wait. The food (vegetarian & non-vegetarian) was truly authentic as well as the drinks (alcoholic & non-alcoholic). The quantity is definitely more than average, so don't go with a full stomach. Also, unless you really can handle chilies don't order the shrimps with green chili sauce - I personally loved it. Pros: Good price, Has a bar, Good quantity Cons: Can get crowded more

Great Food 11/4/2005

Since frequenting there I make sure and recommend this place to any one who ask me about a great spot. I loved it the first time and have not been able to say different yet. There mojitos are great!! Pros: DRINKS, FLAN Cons: LONG WAIT more
