The worst customer service in my life 9/1/2011

The incident happened at Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center. Like, Cali Boy, I never felt so compelled to create an account on citysearch and write a review about my experience. I never been treated so disrespectful in my life until I visited the store. I was very polite to the gentleman in the store. I politely asked him questions all of which he completely ignore and acted like I was bothering him. Despite all that, I ended up buying a cheaper Ukulele as a present for my 5 year old nephew. I thought the gentleman was having a bad day and the store was quite so I wanted to help him out bring in the business. To my surprise, when Japanese looking couple came in, he greeted them nicely to the contrary. Then when they started speaking Chinese to each other, his reaction changed. He gave them the same dirty look when I stepped into the store. He then charged me 10 times the amount of the price tag. He said it was a mistake and he has cancelled it. I am fine with that as people makes mistake. I then politely asked him if I could have the store's business card, just in case, the credit card company asked me in the case that incorrect amount did go through. He said he ran out of it. When I argue and became slightly angry. He gave finally give me business card. It appears that to me that unless you are Japanese, you won't be treated like a human being in this store. If you are other Asian, it is almost guarantee that it would be the worst treatment you ever receive in your life (or anywhere in Hawaii). I may look young and appear down to earth in my appearance because I am a simple person. But it doesn't justify for this gentleman to treat me as a sub-human being. I am 32 year old director level investment banker from NYC and I have substantial financial resources. My annual income is in excess of 700k which is probably at least 15-20 times more than average Japanese visiting Hawaii. It doesn't matter how much I earn or what my ethnic background is. I do not expect to be treated as royalty but just respectable human being. more

BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE 1/19/2011

I visited Bob's Ukulele in the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center on Sunday night January 16, 2011. The service was so blatantly awful and disrespectful that I felt compelled to write this review. The gentlemen working that night completely ignored me and was rude. I was looking at the top of the line ukes - Kanilea in the $2,800 range. Granted I look young, I am a serious buyer. I do collect high end ukes and I do have substantial financial resources. When I tried to look at the high end ukes he asked me to back away and acted like I was bothering him. He never offered to show them to me or help me. Although he readily did show it to another older Japanese gentleman in the store. When I tried to look at the uke at the same time he asked me not to touch the uke. This guy should be fired or at least reprimanded for prescreening customers and for providing the worst customer service I have ever experienced. He made me feel like a second rate citizen.\r more

Good Service is Non-Existent 8/13/2010

Stood outside this store peering into the windows, because we could not tell if they were still open one evening. It was dark inside and no one was present in this small, but well outfitted shop w/ many ukes. We tried the door. Lo and behold it was open! We walked in, looking for someone, and there he was! Sitting behind some type of small counter, almost trying to stay hidden from us. We did not get a ""hello"" or any greeting whatsoever. He remained seated and was barely able to say, ""hi"" AFTER WE, THE CUSTOMERS SAID IT FIRST. Then, we walked around, made a few cojmpliments to about their ukes, with nary a word from this man. He stay hidden in his corner. I do not even think I could identify him in a lineup, because I basically only saw half his face when we entered. It was so unfriendly in there and uncomfortable, so we left after 3 minutes. Another family had entered after we were there for 2 minutes and I saw how awkward the silence was for them too. No greeting was offered from the EMPLOYEE. Or was that the OWNER? GOD FORBID. more
