Instant potatoes with pricey entrees 2/16/2011

My husband and I picked this restaurant because we thought it was a classy place. We could not have been more disappointed. The portions were small. The meal consisted of 1 piece of fish and 5 green beans and 1 small carrot and a dollop of instant mashed potatoes. The service was marginal. I know times are hard, but instant mashed potatoes! more

Overpriced-Overrated 9/27/2008

Totalled a bill of a $163 for dinner and couldn't have been more disappointed. Was with a group of 10, service was awful, took forever for them to do anything from start to finish. I had a filet which was dry and overcooked. My wife had a white fish, again dry, small, and lacking any assemblence of flavor. If I wanted that kind of experience I could have saved myself $150 and had my 7 year old cook. Pathetic....will never return. Pros: Nice inside Cons: Everything else more

McDonalds of seafood restaurants vs. a restaurant that serves seafood 5/5/2007

I had the second ocassion to dine in this restaurant, this time with my guests sent by their hotel Concierge. Like my last visit, there were lots of empty seats in the bright front room available, but we were escorted to the dark back room where they packed all the people. I got an arrogant attitude from the front desk when I asked for one of those nice empty seats up front. The menu was the same as half a year ago, offering the standard overpriced fare without much creativity. Like my last visit, the wait for service was very long. As a seafood aficionado, I believe the baked oysters were good, the mussels a bit unfresh, the seafood chowder plain. They pushed for the expensive dish ""Nag's head grouper"" which I thought was unfresh and overcooked. My guests had the Halibut special and stuffed trout and all three of us did not finish our fish. The desserts were nice, but we went there for the fish. Overall, if you want the ""Olive Garden"" of seafood, Blue Point is the place. This is a restaurant that serves seafood, not a seafood restaurant. It doesn't even have fresh lobsters like Red Lobster. It seems the primary interst is to make money, not to excel in the food. THIS IS NOT A PLACE FOR INTERESTING OR SUPERB FISH. The standard menu, unimpressive cooking style and quality makes it the McDonalds of its class, but you pay the high price for the decor and the name that it doesn't really live up to. I've had better seafood dishes (and service) in restaurants elsewhere in town, and even across the street at Metropolitan. So, if you are a seafood lover, don't go there. If seafood (or dinning out) is a rare treat for your gests, and you don't mind paying a lot, then this place might work. Pros: Nice ambiance, if you ever get a table in the front room. Cons: Overpriced, food has no taste, food not fresh, poor service with an attitude. more

Nice atmosphere, great dessert, but overall a disappointment 3/7/2007

I reserved a table for 9 my birthday celebration and ended up having people cancel at the last minute because of bad weather, so I showed up to the restaurant with only 6 in my party. When I told the hostess about this, I got attitude from her and she made us wait 10 minutes until they could move us to a smaller table. What was the point of a reservation? Shortly after we were seated, the fire alarms started going off, and that lasted no less than 15 minutes, making our dinner conversation impossible. We didn't smell smoke or see any fire, so no one panicked, however it would have been nice if our server had explained why the alarms went off. I ordered the stuffed lobster tail special and it arrived cold and overdone. When I finally flagged the served down, she said she'd have it heated up, but never apologized or offered to bring me a new meal. It was instead returned to me rearranged on a new plate, probably microwaved, and even more overdone. I could barely eat another rubbery bite and ended up taking the $50 leftovers home out of spite. Blue Point is overrated and definitely overpriced. I have had better service and a better meal at Red Lobster, more

Very good 12/24/2006

First timers. Flew into Burke Lakefront Airport on business and had dinner here. It was a Monday nite, but the place was packed due to the holidays. Arrived on time for reservation. Seated promptly, and waited on very promptly also. It was an enjoyable evening. Food was great. The only downside was that it was crowded, so the noise level was a bit high. After the all the doctors, lawyers, and high-end corporate people left, it was quite nice. Get your wallet out because it is not cheap, but food, drink, and service were excellent. Pros: Food and service. Cons: Avoid crowded times for best experience. more

Wow, who knew there would be such great seafood in Cleveland 11/16/2006

This restaurant was recommended by the bartender at another restaurant, so we headed across the street to try this one out. We were not disappointed. While we did not have a reservation, they were able to fit us in and in a booth looking out to the street. Pros: Great fresh seafood Cons: May have to wait if you don't have a reservation. more

Highly overrated 10/7/2006

I have heard about this restaurant many times on the radio and know it is always rated high. I think that our bad experience should be known. Pros: looks fancy Cons: service, food more

Consistantly Great!!! 6/14/2006

Never had a bad meal at Blue Point. Good for romantic dinners or for dinners with a group. Window table. more

A Top-Notch Cleveland Tradition Continues! 12/28/2005

We have dined at Blue Point Grille on several occassions, all with positive results. We hosted a holiday party for a total of 18. All of us were treated like royalty, as we received a hearty welcome from the manager. This royal treatment was not left at the door! Our server made us feel as if we were her only concern for the entire evening. She anticipated our every need. Blue Point prepares the finest seafood dishes, but we were completely pleased with the succulent steaks, as well. To top it all off, our guests were highly impressed with the extensive wine list. The attention to detail in regards to the atmosphere just heightened the enjoyment of the festive occassion. Most locals agree that Blue Point Grille is an absolute must if you are visiting Cleveland. Clevelanders are proud to have such a gem in their midst. Pros: Excellent Service, Delicious Food, Nice Wine Selection more

A-1 OUTSTANDING! 12/28/2005

I regularly entertain clients at Blue Point. They have consistently saved me from any embarrassment, to say the least. I can always rely on Blue Point to make me look good. The general atmosphere is a perfect blend of just the right amount of ""ritz."" The service has been impeccable. But the best things about Blue Point is the FOOD. Their base-line is seafood, but they have so much more to choose from! For starters, try the Chilled Seafood Tower. The presentation itself is impressive and is sure to please all. As for the steaks, hands-down this is THE PLACE! Typically at most seafood restaurants, the steak can be second rate. This IS NOT the case here. You will not be disappointed. Take my word for it... This place is a MUST for regulars and a MUST for anybody who is just passing through Cleveland. Pros: Seafood/Steaks, Service, Atmosphere more

awful, awful, awful 9/15/2005

I have been to this restaurant multiple times (not by choice!) and each time it has been absolutely awful - all the more highlighted by the high prices. This place is highly overrated and seems to keep its clientele because of its reputation for being chichi, not because the food is delicious or innovative. Case in point - I ordered a spinach salad with roasted chicken - the salad had some yellow and wilted spinach, while the chicken actually tasted like it had started to go bad. On that same visit, one of my companions, who had made clear that she was a vegetarian, was overjoyed to find a grilled fishhead accompanying her salad. This restaurant is 5 out of 10 for the quality of the food but the ridiculous prices are absolutely not worth it! more

lOVED IT !!! 7/11/2005

7/11/2005 There was nothing that I did not like about it. The drinks, food, staff.... It was a bit expensive. But you get what you pay for. I'm planning to go back very soon. Kelly, Mentor OH Pros: Excellent staff, quick service, Good parking Cons: cant think of any more

It's The Best Restaurant In Town 5/13/2005

I returned to the Blue Point Grill for a 2nd year Anniversary Dinner after not having dined there for about one year. I was AMAZED as it seemed even better than I remembered it. I had the Alaskan halibut special and I was blown away. The fish was so fresh and everything served was the finest quality. The price is high but well worth it for a special occasion. Everything from the valet parking to the desert was so wonderful it facilitated a beautiful evening. It's still the Best Restaurant In Town! Pros: Food, Service, Comfortable Cons: Price more

Ridiculously Good 3/6/2005

A couple of friends and I went to this restaurant last Friday evening for dinner. There was bit of a wait for the table, but things happen...so we did not allow the delay to be bother us. After being seated the waiter, Michael was extremely attentive...the right balance. He explained the specials etc. The food was RIDICULOUSLY wonderful, starting with the salad, entree, desert. The atmosphere was just right. I have traveled all over the world and this country and I must say, this ranks way up there with being one of the best dining experiences. more

Excellent 1/25/2005

Dined for lunch today and it was excellent! $27 for 2 including tip. I had the Shrimp & Scallop over mashed potatoes ($12) which was excellent. My fiance had the Lobster & Chicken Linguine ($9) and she loved it. The warm bread served with lunch was very good as well. It was quite crowded for a Wednesday at 1. more

A Place to See and Be Seen 12/10/2004

I have been there twice recently, and had fabulous meals both times. Even though it is pricey, a meal of appetizers is very filling. I would recommend the Calimari, served on a bed of greens with a spicey sauce. For the portion size, it was a reasonable $9. Would like to see Blue Point go to a non-smoking format. Much of the smoke from the bar flows into the dining room Pros: Calimari Appetizer, Great Seafood, Never Disappoints Cons: , Noisy, Smoky Bar more

Not worth the prices 10/3/2004

High point was the cold shellfish appetizer platter, complete with crab legs and delicious blue point oysters. Otherwise nothing much to rave about here, blackened halibut too dry, swordfish ordinary, could have gotten same quality of seafood just about anywhere without having to pay these kind of prices. Also, due to some problem in the kitchen, we had to wait nearly 1 hr for our entrees, to make up for which the deserts were on the house. Nice place, good ambience and convenient location, but I probably wont be back here anytime soon. Pros: cold shellfish plate, oysters delicious, ambience good Cons: , fish just ordinary, service very slow more

Excellent Seafood 7/13/2004

As a recent transplant from Boston I have to say that the seafood was excellent, especially the bouillabaise which was almost perfect. Our waiter was attentive and the service was excellent. The only thing that I was not completely crazy about was I believe the Oysters Rockefeller. However, even my husband's grouper was delicious and moist and the mashed potatoes were phenomenal. I find the menu very innovative I highly recommend it. Pros: service, food more

Consistantly GREAT 3/2/2004

We are from Boston, which boasts some of the finest restaurants in the country. The 3 visits we've had to the Blue Point Grille in Cleveland over the past 3 years, however, have been as good as any restaurant in Boston with the service, quality of the meals and the ambiance being equal or better to any of the best restaurants we've ever experienced anywhere in the country. Our hat's go off the everyone who works there and we look forward to our next visit!! The Blue Point Grille is with out a doubt a 10!! Enjoy!!! Pros: Great Service, Excellent Menu, Reasonably priced more

disappointing 11/9/2003

It's a shame when a restaurant jacks up its prices (especially wine) just because it can, knowing the large number of corporate customers. I was a corporate guest several weeks ago and disappointed to see barely a Bordeaux or Cabernet under $200!! We ordered a wine reccomended by our waitress ( the bottle was over $60) and it not only came with a screw-top cap but was sooo young that the wine was slightly sparkling (still working)!! It took us a half hour to find something decent under $300/bottle for our second round. Our entire table was very dissapointed with the red wine selections available! Our food was ok-nothing terrible but not worth the $$$$. I ordered a dish recommended by the waitress primarily for the highly acclaimed lobster mashed potatoes. Nothing to return for. Cappuccino was good but way too small a portion and the biscotti was too moist. Pros: attentive wait staff Cons: Expensive, Terrible wine list, ok food for beaucoup more
