I am so thoroughly disappointed at Bit Bar & Bakery. Not because of their food (which admittedly, I never got to taste), but because of their service.
After waiting a few months since they opened, my wife & I headed into Bite Bar & Bakery to get some Sunday brunch. The place was packed and after a short wait, we were seated. The menu looked great, our drink & meal orders were taken, and then we were forgotten amongst the crowd.
An order of grilled cheese & waffles never came. We waited a good 45minutes before our server acknowledged that we still hadn't received our food. Assuring us that he would check on it, we hoped that it was a fluke and that it'd be out shortly.
Another 15 minutes pass, our server busy with other orders (including several parties that arrived well after us) and still no food. I flagged down our waiter and asked about our order. He acted surprised that no one had come to tell us of the problem (not sure exactly who would have done that...the chef?, the hostess?, some OTHER server???). But an hour into arriving, he informed us that there was an issue with the waffle iron and that it'd be a few more minutes. Well, we had waited long enough and at this point didn't care to wait longer. We politely offered to pay for our drinks (just a single iced coffee) and told him that we'd be leaving.
This was the first time in my life that I have ever left a restaurant without eating.
Now, to point out why I gave this review a 1-star.
I would never have left and understand complications in the kitchen at a busy restaurant, however, it was the lack of attention, information, and service that irritated me. If there is an issue in the kitchen, let me know. Offer me the option of changing my order. Bring us out a complimentary baked good. APOLOGIZE!!!
They did nothing of the sort --- nothing close. It wasn't until we got up to leave that the waiter offered to cover our drinks (our whopping $2.25 iced coffee). And it's this reason that I was/am so upset. I am a generous tipper and patron. The smallest of gestures will go a long way towards my business. Perhaps it was this particular server, or perhaps it was the growing pains of a new place (although they're in their 3rd month of business now), but whatever the reason for the lack of attention, its inexcusable in my opinion.
I may go back in the future for a meal (alone, at the bar, and early --- don't feel like subjecting the pregnant wife to that again), but for now, I'll just head up to Rae's Diner a few blocks up when I want a good waffle!
Pros: Menu appears delicious & original
Cons: Poor Service, Inexcusable Wait, Growing Pains?
