Still excellent - and best in town 3/23/2008

The sushi at Bistro is excellent - far superior to Kotobuki (sp?) and Fujirama - and since it's opening has continued to create delicious lunches and dinners that are not only sushi, but include yummy bites from the kitchen as well. We don't find them expensive. They have a sushi bar, a lounge and a restaurant. Here's a tip - ask for The Fire Roll (it's not on the menu - $22). It is a huge amazing roll with crab, avocado, cucumber, shrimp and eel on the inside and the wrapped with salmon on the outside. John (the sushi chef) broils it briefly and then tops it with a fabulous sauce. But it doesn't stop there! The presentation always gets noticed and we are always asked "What did you order?". Another really good one (also not on the menu) is the White Tiger - white tuna based and not cooked like the Fire Roll. Other yummies are the Lucky Star, their mashed potatos (I'm not kidding) and their Teriyaki Chicken. Bistro gets pretty busy, so call ahead. Levis Commons has added another very good restaurant though which will give Bistro a run for their money in the Family category...Nagoya Japanese Steakhouse. It's a cool place with almost 4 hot spots in 1 - Habachi, Sushi Bar, Lounge and Bar. It's big, it's well decorated and it's really good. The kids love hibachi while we love the rest. At Nagoya we've tried needlefish, horse mackerel, urchin, sweet shrimp and an awesome oyster, saki and urchin martini (YUM!). If you're lucky, you'll get Annie who will give you all the dish on all that's good. I will say that their standard rolls and sushi combos are boring though, and I hate to say it! Make a reservation here - you'll need it. As always, whenever you go for sushi, ask for what's NOT on the menu! Liz Pros: The Fire Roll, The White Tiger - The whole sushi staff Cons: Call ahead! more

Best Steaks and Desserts.... 10/3/2007

We went to bistro wasabi this pass friday with our friends. We started with this roll called the hot and sixy (the "i" is suppose to be an "e" there are not allowing me to put the "e" into the word). This roll is so good... I have no words to describe it ... I never had something like this ever. I had the big filet for dinner and it is One of the Best Filet in town. I read a review before mine of someone ordering the ribeye and I don't know what he is talking about. I mean when you order a ribeye you expect the ribeye to have some fat. Some ribeye can have a lot of fat and some will not. When it comes to ribeye it's about taste more then amount of meat considering you are looking for it to have a lot of marble which is the fat content in the meat. Anyways I recommend to anyone who is into steaks to go try bistro wasabi's filet you won't be disappointed. My date for the evening had a salmon dinner and she enjoyed it immensely. At the end of our meal we ordered there carrot cake and a coffee cake. I think it's called coffee cake or espresso cake or something along those lines. Both the desserts were AWSOME!!!... Fair warning the Desserts there is HUGE!!!!!....The carrot cake is still my favorite but that is because I never had a carrot cake like this in awhile. This is totally my favorite place to eat. Pros: Up beat Music, Service, Food Cons: Make Reservations on friday... we didn't and had to wait for 30 min to get a table. more

Best Sushi in town... 8/31/2007

I can't say enough good things about this place. We moved here from Seattle Washington and been looking for a good sushi restaurant in town. This is our favorite place and the only place we go intown. We have been to all the sushi places here and nothing to our satisfaction. This is the only place i found that doesn't use spicy mayo in there spicy tuna or salmon and let's the natural flavor shine. They are way ahead of there time for this town. Don't forget to get there carrot cake... it's litterally to die for... more

Ok food, nice atmophere...OVERPRICED 8/14/2007

Wasabi is a surprise, the atmosphere is surprising for the Toledo area, which is typically a blue collar town. The menu had shockingly high prices for what they were offering. The food was tasty and the portions were HUGE. I would rather they charge 30% less for a plate of 3 rolls, than charge $21 and make 2" thick rolls. My friends could not even put them in their mouths! So much for their first sushi experience. The spicy rolls were boring, lots of heat, but little flavor. The Ribeye steak i tried was full of fat, and over marinated. Mashed potatoes were dry and boring. The other sushi tray I tried was $24, and had a good selection, except for the generic (read CHEAP) shrimp and eel piece. ceviche appetizer at $12 was ok, but very little fish in there. The calimari was done up in a unique way with a tasty sauce, this was everyones favorite. Service was great. Pros: Good food, good service Cons: way overpriced, rolls are bland, limited options more
