Rotten experience - went to this 6/6/2012

Rotten experience - went to this restaurant last Tuesday night. We had reservations and arrived to a half empty restaurant, and were seated literally 10 feet from the bar. So we expected some level of average service. \r \r No one came to our table for close to 15 mins. When the waiter did, he asked if we were ready to order dinner. We asked (asked mind you - at a restaurant!) if we could have drinks first, to which the waiter cooly said 'of course'. We then waited for another 10-15 mins until the waiter came back and said 'your drinks are on the way, are you NOW ready to order your entrees'? We again asked if we could first order several appetizers, which we did. Our drinks finally came, and again we were asked if we were ready to order our entrees. We ordered our entrees, the appetizers showed up - and we waited and waited and waited another 25 mins before anyone showed up again. No one came to see if we wanted more drinks, and while people around us who had showed up later than us were served, we continued to wait, and these were salads that had been ordered - dishes that could have been made quickly. Unfortunately when they did show up, the lettuce was wilted, and they were entirely sub par. \r \r The whole restaurant staff seemed confused. I must have seen 4 instances where the food was brought to the wrong outside table, and then brought back in again. I saw only two waiters actually taking orders. I even had to chase down our waiter to get my check so I could get out of there. I thought of stiffing the waiter on the tip (actually I thought several times of just walking out completely), but realized the waiter was the only one really running around trying to get anything done, and it wasn't his fault that his manager/owner had understaffed the place that night. The waiter - Maurice - wasn't exactly unfriendly, but he did not go out of his way to be friendly either. In fact, no one at the restaurant was friendly. I won't go back, and I won't recommend anyone to go either. I'm at the Grand Center regularly, but will never go to the Bistro again. more

Poor Service 1/18/2010

My husband and I decided to once again eat at The Bistro before seeing our show at the Fox. This is a pattern we had fallen into before each show. Last night we were a little later then we usually are because the Sunday show is 30 minutes earlier and we had to switch our season tickets this week. But we still had well over an hour before show time. Three large tables were sat after us and the bar stools went from empty to full. We ordered our food the moment the waitress came to our table (which actually did take longer then normal). We purposely did not order large meals due to the time constraints. We ordered a salad, quesadilla and chicken sandwich. We waited. Salad was never delivered. Then, after all the other tables and people at the bar received their food before us (even though they ordered after us) we finally asked about it. It was delivered right out. The chicken on the sandwich was so cold my husband couldn't eat it. My quesadilla was warm. The waitresses response to the food was "well, in a perfect world it would have been out here faster." She did apologize and insisted she put our order in right away but "these things happen." We were welcome to take it home with us. Really? How nice. I love to eat my dinner at 11:00 at night? I was shocked that our bill came at full price! We paid it and very little tip which is hard for us to do since we normally tip at least 20% or more. I do want to express our extreme disappointment. The experience has kicked us out of our rut. We will no longer be eating at The Bistro before our shows. The service is historically slow but this was more then even that. And not the friendliest people there at all. We have overlooked that and the higher entree prices for the convenience factor of their location. Not anymore! Pros: Good Location to the Fox Cons: Service is slow, slow and food is average more

great food, great atmosphere 9/24/2002

I went for a quick dinner before the show, and was happily surprised at how good the food, wine, and especially the dessert were. Beef Wellington is phenominal, as is the warm chocolate cake. i highly recommend it! more
