Bistro 44

My husband and I went to Bistro 44 with another couple to celebrate our anniversary. I had been there last year and loved it. Something happened since then and I'm not sure what. I never complain and I know sometimes the server is having a bad night but this was ridiculous. We were seated and waited for at least ten minutes for our server. He came over and barely greeted us. He asked what we wanted. My friend has gluten issues and it said on the menu to let the chef know and he will prepare the food gluten free. The waiter seemed unconcerned and wasn't very helpful. This did not make my friend feel safe. We had to flag down a different server to bring us bread. The bread was stale tasting. I finally got up to complain. The hostess was lovely and asked if I'd like to speak to the owner. I told the owner my concerns and he simply stated he would follow up on the gluten free request. He didn't seem to care about the fact that the service was terrible. The food came it was very good. The waiter never asked if we wanted another drink. I had to go up to the bar and order one myself. The vodka tasted like Sambuca. The owner came to ask if everyhitng was OK-I told him no I had to order my own drink form the bar-he didn't even acknowledge me. I left so angry. I can't believe the owner would not be more concerned about unsatisfied customers. The resturant is pricey and not worth going to if you are not going to be treated right and the owner just doesn't care! more

We just ate here for the first time since the chef and a partner bought it from the previous owner. It is still fabulous! We went for lunch and the skirt steak sandwich and the sesame tuna were delicious. We couldn't be happier that Chef Jimmy is now in charge. They truly have the best food in Northport. We visited the Bistro just after they reopened after recovering from a kitchen fire. The food was better than ever! The Tuna Three Ways appetizer was fabulous as were the Little Neck Clams. For entrees we chose the Diver Scallops and the Rib Eye Steak which were terrific. Executive Chef Jimmy Tchinnis is doing a fabulous job at this Northport find.
