not great not bad 2/22/2010

I lived at the Birch for almost 2 years, at first I lived in the Landlords building and everything was nice and quiet for a year. The following year I wanted a bigger place by the pool and I was in luck! A very large 1 bedroom landlord style apartment came available and i was in like Flynn. cant beat the size for the price.... and it was by the pool! So the first week I am there I spot critters running around mostly in the kitchen area! Roaches??? WTF I am a bachelor and I never eat in I always go out for dinner so i might have frozen dinners in the freezer and a pizza box in the fridge but nothing to attract my cute little friends and i am very tidy! So i went to the office whined about my roach issue and they came out and sprayed. I am not quite sure what they sprayed but I think the roaches liked it. And went and whined again, and more spraying. Then! 2 months down the road a water pipe busted in the bedroom and the maintenance people took everything I had in 1 of the closets ( the pipe being just outside the closet) and piled my suede coat and all my work cloths in to one giant soaked wet ball on my bed! now this is a very large bedroom for an apartment but the maintenance guy told me he didn't want to mildew the carpet, what about my 1200.00 bed? So after freaking out a lil I went and looked at the pipe with the hole in it. They knew exactly where to cut and where the issue happened because guess what? There was some of the solder paste or tube weld smeared all over the pipe from the last time this happened. Bingo got pictures! I ate the cost of my dry cleaning and having my bed steamed along with the carpets. I didn't bitch or whine about it, but I did make sure they replaced and soldered the pipe this time not just a lil dab of liquid weld. The roach issue persisted, and they could not seem to get rid of these roaches it was like 1 or 2 here and there I was sorta pissed, but by month 6 I guess I got a few dirty neighbors and the roach issue got worse like 10 or 20 when I turned on the lights would scatter. So I sent the office my letter of intent to move 2.5 months before my year long lease was up stating due to unlivable circumstances ""roach issue"" I need to leave. I spoke with Tiara and the Big boss landlord about this, Tiara said this is approved and Mary the big boss understood why i needed to leave. 45 days later I was gone. Now here i am 3 years later and have a collection agency after me for 790.00 for paint and repairs to the place. Now I am a picture Ho so i have the whole newspaper thing and pictures taken when I moved out. place was pristine! I am to old to throw parties and hoot and holler, no animals to speak of and I smoke outside in the courtyard. the place was just as it was when i moved in! I have left messages and even talked to one girl that said she would call me back but I haven't heard anything in 1 month. If you are broke or single and getting on your feet this is a great place, close to everything and lot's of outdoorsy stuff close by. But make sure you live in the landlords building stay away from the outlying buildings and get shit in writing Pros: apartment was clean and freshly painted Cons: moved to another building and had roaches more

Sign the shortest lease possible!! 2/13/2007

The Birch apartments are an inexpensive place to live, the saying ""you pay for what you get"" has never rang so true. The shower was terrible, the amount of water coming from the shower head is the equivelent of someone spitting water at you. The apartment ALWAYS had a mystery smell to it, like something fleshy was burning combined with mildew. Walking around, I use the term loosely, the livingroom was always a fun game of ""find the hole""........there are dents or holes in the floor covered by the carpet. The very worst part of the Birch experience was the one leasing agent they have who we'll call T. She is always very short inher responses and shows no interest in what you are saying (unless you are male). Winter here was terrible! it was like driving over glaciers just to get into a parking spot. Pros: cheap, courtyard is attractive when it rains Cons: everything else more

This is the worst experience I have ever had with living in an apartment complex, and I have lived a lot of places. The first problem is that everything is enclosed and brick. You can't get cell phone reception, if someone else has heat on, everyone does, and the boiler is in the middle of the complex, so it feels like the furnace is on in the summer, despite the air conditioning or where you are located. Well, the furnaces might be on in the summer. Utilities are really high, and controlled by the main office. \r No matter who is living there, you hear everything that they are doing. There are hardly any walls in between two apartments, and maybe there isn't really any, meaning you hear everything around you, underneath you and above you. Because it's enclosed with a courtyard, you also hear everything across from you and it echoes. Not only that, I had major problems with rodents coming in from next door because it was so easy to make a hole in the wall. I know that they haven't solved that problem. \r The third problem, is that everything is small. It almost feels like you are living in a hallway or closet. I tried to put one couch in a room and it took up the entire room, leaving only enough space to walk. \r The Birch may have not left such a better taste in my mouth, except for the fact that the manager is TERRIBLE!!! She lives in one of the apartment buildings, and watches what everyone does. Her preference would be for no one to live there. She loves to send out notes to everyone saying that they are being too nosy...aka, they are walking too loudly. She takes pleasure out of treating people badly, basically because she is miserable herself. I had a friend who was a psychologist tell me that she has definite signs of being manic depressive at the least. She should NOT be running a complex, or have any job. \r My sugesstion, go for ANYTHING other than the Birch. A cardboard box would be much more comfortable than here. Pros: nothing Cons: everything more
