Best Dental Office in Lynchburg 12/2/2011

I have been a patient of Forest Dental Center for over 10 years, and I would never dream of going anywhere else. I have had work done by Dr. Binder and Dr. McAvoy, and they were GREAT experiences. They are both very gentle--you don't even realize that you are getting a shot! I've also seen almost all of the hygienists and they are equally as caring. One thing I really appreciate is the fact that everything is gone over with you ahead of time as far as treatment and co-pays, so there are never any surprises. The entire staff is customer service oriented and you can tell that is a top priority of the office. They will even put you on a priority list if your first choice of an appointment time is not available--and they actually call you! I have never written a review before, but felt compelled to off-set anything negative written here because it is just not true! My entire family are long-time patients as well, and I feel that experience is definitely worth a true assessment of an office. You should definitely go to this office! more

Nickle & Dime Patients ... BEWARE! 11/13/2011

I had to switch to dentists due to insurance constraints. My last dentist no longer accepted my insurance and I found Forest Dental Center on my list of carriers. BIGGEST MISTAKE! I saw two different dentists and hygenists at my last dentist and had absolutely no dental problems. Upon my first visit at Forest Dental Center, I suddenly had several different problems including gingivitis ... something that four professionals from the past never caught. I had not one but FIVE corrective appointments set up by Forest Dental Center with excessive charges for each visit to be paid out of my pocket in addition to the charges to my insurance carrier. I ended up returning to my last dentist. I had my records transferred back from Forest Dental Center. And what do you? Forest Dental Center did NOT forward my ""problematic records"" to them because they knew they were caught red-handed in lies. If I could sue them for misappropriation, I would. Do yourself a favor. If you are reading the bad reviews, take them to heart and goe elsewhere. I never write reviews, but I want to make others aware of this money-gouging dental practice. BEWARE! more

Horrible Horrible Place 5/12/2011

I went to Forest Dental Center and the moment I got there I was treated poorly. The receptionist was uptight and seemed like she was too busy playing solitare to care about the patients. \r \r I waited 45 mins to get called into the back and when the hygenist said my name wrong and I corrected her she rolled her eyes.\r \r The cleaning went bad, the hygenist didn't try to be friendly or anything until the doctor came in, all of a sudden she couldn't be any nicer.\r \r When I went to pay for the horrible serive, once again I was faced with a mean woman just trying to get me out of the way so she can finish her game of solitare.\r more

Cured lifelong fear of the dentist.............. 2/2/2009

I had a lot of trauma to my teeth when I was younger from a car accident and have ALWAYS feared the dentist . In fact until last year I hadn't been to the dentist for about 15 years except for when it was absolutely neccessary. I am so happy I randomly chose this dentist after experiencing some of the others in the lynchburg area because they are so friendly and understanding. I explained my fears and past traumatic experiences with them and they are very patient, and accommodating. In fact I am taking my 2 year old for his first dental visit this month and I wouldn't take him somewhere I didn't feel comfortable with myself. Pros: Patience, understanding of past experiences, and very accommodating. more

Used to hate dentist visits... but not anymore! 1/8/2009

I have had dental problems since I was a kid and because of numerous fillings and crowns in my childhood I have always HATED going to the dentist. Not so much anymore due to the staff at Forest Dental.\r \r The hygienists are very accommodating - even allowing me to listen to my iPod during dental procedures to calm my nerves. I have requested to take breaks during procedures longer than 30 mins and they have always allowed it. Dr. Binder has always been very thorough, even double checking a previous filling due to some lingering sensitivity.\r \r I have had a VERY different experience from the previous reviewer. I was even scheduled to have two fillings one day and once Dr. Binder got in there to work he said that he thought we really only needed to do one b/c the area in question didn't look as bad as it had on the X-Ray. I've canceled my fair share of appointments due to work meetings, etc and have never had a problem with them rescheduling. I have been in the office once a month for the past 5 months for small fillings and the office was always accommodating in scheduling the appointments in a way that would not be a financial burden.\r \r I've never had any pain during the procedures. The office is FULL of light and very comfortable.\r \r I am a real patient and have been going to Forest Dental for about 6-7 years, since it was owned my McAvoy & Hendrickson and was beside Harmon Eye Center. I felt the need to write this review because of the severe negativity of the previous reviewer - and me having had a MUCH different experience there. Pros: Pleasant staff, acommodating to the needs of the patient, acommodating to financial burdens, friendly hygenists, nice office/patient setting Cons: The safety glasses they have you wear are a little goofy... but it's better than having pieces of tooth fly into your eye more

Forest Dental Center - Worst dentists in the Lynchburg area 11/18/2008

Worst dentists I have ever been to. Although I had significant dental problems, they only treated me in the most minimal way until they found out I recently got insurance. Then they started doing unnecessary tests and x-rays. Dental hygienist was a sadist. When I complained of pain when he was probing my sore mouth with a sharp metal instrument, he told me to be quiet that it couldn't possibly hurt because I wasn't bleeding. Even though I had severe pain and infection, I was given an appt. 3 weeks away. Dr. would not give me any pain medication because he ""didn't feel comfortable"" doing it. Well I didn't ""feel comfortable"" being in pain. Then when I did have an appointment, some bimbo called me that morning and told me not to come because Dr. Binder ""wasn't feeling well"". (So far, this has all been about HIM). So I didn't go. I went to my primary care physician because of the pain and swelling and was told I had an advanced infection in my mouth. He immediate started me on antibiotics and told me my dentist was irresponsible. I agree. Today I received a letter telling me they will no longer be my dental provider ""due to cancelled and broken appointments and failure to follow through with prescribed treatment"". Huh? I NEVER cancelled an appointment. And I never got an opportunity to follow through with treatment. Bottom line: They couldn't care less if you need treatment, are dying of an infection or pain. Avoid at all costs. Pros: nothing Cons: everything more
