Best

Stopped here for drinks the other night for the first time and had a great experience. Pupu platters were delicious, but the drinks were far and away the reason I'll be back. Ever...

Worst

Very rude management, poor food quality, way over priced...to many other good restaurants to dine at in Newport Beach.

Great place to watch the USC games! The mai tais are tasty, but try the Navy Grog if you want to be more adventurous. Plus it comes with rock candy, yum. more

Everyone talks about the mai tais being good and strong and they aren't kidding. The best mai tai I've ever had was in Maui and this is the only one that has ever come close. more

Great food, great atmosphere, and live music most nights! They take orders on iPads which is super cool! It's awesome to get a drink at sunset right on the water! more

Stopped here for drinks the other night for the first time and had a great experience. Pupu platters were delicious, but the drinks were far and away the reason I'll be back. Everyone has to try their Mai Tai, and if that doesn't end up being dangerous enough for you, whatever you do, don't finish the night with the Navy Grog... I mean, do it, but be prepared. more

I've NEVER had such a great time! 6/10/2010

PLEASE NOTE: Billy's is NOT closed. They NEVER were closed. Some idiot left a review, incorrectly stating that Billy's was closed. WRONG - They are still open for business and they're still going strong. Pros: #1 atmosphere, sexy waitresses, Billy himself Cons: NOTHING AT ALL - Excellent place for fun and some sun more

OUT OF BUSINESS 5/25/2010

BAD PARKING, POOR SERVICE AND BAD FOOD. THIS PLACE IS OUT OF BUSINESS Cons: BAD SERVICE AND FOOD more

Good but pricey 5/17/2010

This place is very pricey... It's a good place to go for a drink and appetizer... but, if you want to have dinner - it's expensive. I would rather go somewhere else. They have great bread there! Great atmosphere... they just need to lower the prices for dinner. more

Great Place To Eat If You're A Racist 3/27/2010

I had to go to a wedding today in Newport Beach with my wife and some friends from her work. There was a 2 and 1/2 hour gap between the wedding ceremony and the reception so we decided to stop at Billy's for lunch. We ate inside the restaurant and then afterward we went outside to the patio bar to order a drink. There were six of us. Four of us were white, two of us were black. We were not on the patio for more than two minutes before a red-faced, 50-year-old, buff-yet-also-fat dude in a red Affliction t-shirt called one of our black friends a ni**er. He did it right in front of and within earshot of the two bartenders behind the bar. Neither of them said anything. And they actually seemed to become annoyed with the fact that we had two black people in our party more than the fact that one of their patrons had just said something that should have had them removed from the property. We paid for the drinks that we had ordered without touching them and left. The bartender was rude to us as we did so. This place is terrible if you do not enjoy having your friends called disgusting racial slurs with the tacit consent of the bar staff. However, it's great if you are a complete douchebag and enjoy hanging out at places filled with racist tools hopped up on cocaine and viagra, liver-spotted cougars with ripped arms and medium-sized fake breasts that are 17 inches apart, and skanky waitresses with huge fake boobs crammed into tiny t-shirts with ugly faces, thin legs and beer guts. This place is Loserville and I hope that it burns to the ground sometime in my lifetime so I can stop by and take a photo of myself taking a sh*t on its ashes. Pros: Free use of n-word with no staff reprisals Cons: Black friends will be called n-word with no reprisals more

Great Place! 3/26/2010

I have been there several times. Never to eat really, but for Friday or Saturday nite, the 2 man band is fun. Popular classic soft rock that you can talk to your date while they are playing if you wish. I went to try the Mai Tai's. It is worth the trip! Good flavor and very strong! I'm hooked and will be back. Pros: The best Mai Tai's Cons: price more

Don't even bother. 9/26/2009

Just came home from having dinner a Billy's at the Beach. I had read mixed reviews and decided to see for myself. I took my mother and my daughter and her boyfriend out for a nice dinner. Wow, am I sorry. The waitress had a horrible attitude from the beginning. Actually tossed the plates on the table. Left us sitting forever after dinner. We had to flag her down to get our bill and we left her cash to pay our bill (which was ridiculously high) and she chased us out the door because she thought we had stiffed her since she didn't look inside the book to see the cash. She just noticed we were gone and assumed we hadn't paid. How embarrassing for us since there were several people waiting at the valet with us for their cars. Now lets talk about the food. It was horrible. The coconut shrimp was so over cooked we couldn't eat it. The fish and chips were soggy and the barbecue sauce was basically ketchup with some brown sugar. The prices were over the top for the quality of food. Don't waste your time or money. Pros: Nice decor. Cons: The food and the staff. more

Good Food/ Bad Attitude 11/20/2008

This place has a beautiful ambiance and great one of a kind food. But is it worth the visit if the owners themselves don't even care if you're there or not? I have never been treated so poorly by an upper level staff in all of my dinning experiences. The female ""manager"" that works the front desk is extremely rude and does not work well in customer service. The hostesses are too busy talking on the phone, the bartenders are very slow and the servers seemed overwhelmed and unmotivated. I felt bad for them. If these people take any pride in their business then they should be treating their patrons a little better considering that we're the people that keep their restaurant in business! They act like they could care less if you ever come back or not. I've never been treated so badly while spending so much money in my life. I WILL NOT GO BACK AS LONG AS THAT MANAGER IS WORKING THERE!!! Pros: Great food and beautiful location Cons: Bad managment. Horrible bar service. Could care less if you ever come back or not. more

Bad Staff, Bad food 9/15/2008

While on vacation, we decided to try a restaurant with a more ""local"" flavor. Billy's seemed fun. We were seated promptly on the patio. Not something I would highly sugggest, unless you smoke. Nice view , but too noisy and smokey. Food was served promptly, but was marginal and over priced. Our server got caught up with a large group next to us, and the rest of the evening went downhill quickly. No one ever followed up after our meals were served. Drinks were never refilled. Dessert never offered. Finally a bus person cleared our plates. Still our server was rushing around the other group while we were totally ignored. We tracked down a manger. She was very agitated. The restarant, inside, had lost power. She gave us a half hearted apology, but explained she had a crisis on her hands. She must have mentioned something to our server. who was now running around with a cell phone in a panic. I am thinking she was trying to use the calculator function? Our 13 yesar old managed to come up with a pretty good calculation in her head. Again we waited and waited. At no time did anyone offer to buy us a drink, discount our bill, nothing. Stay away! Go to the Jolly Roger or Chart House next door. Pros: View Cons: Poor food, poor service more

Bad Vibes! Surly bartender. Watch out! 9/24/2006

Last week, after a hard days work, 7 of us went to this place for a ""Boat Drink"" around 5:30pm. The first encounter was a big surly bartender sporting an attitude. We felt like we better hurry up and order or he'd bite our hands off. Excuuuuuse me! He was obviously annoyed by our presence. We got our drinks and had to move out into the patio as the tables around the bar were taken. The outside bar was full as well, and alot of people (including us)were standing alongside vacant dinner tables outside. A waitress came and told us we cannot stand there. Again bad vibes. She said we must stand next to the small crowded bar. So we did. Feeling awkward and hemmed in we moved back inside to a table right next to the bar area. Well, the waitress came back and told us we cannot sit there!!! We then said, ""OK Where would you like us to go?"" She said she didn't know. We asked her to please send over the manager so we could iron out this rediculous situation but she said that the manager was not there and that the bartender was the one who didn't want us to sit there!!! We could see the bartender glaring at us! So my friend with the tab went over to the bar to pay up because at this point we were leaving! My friend complained, of course, to the bartender and he told us to ""leave and don't come back!!! We couldn't believe it! Even the hostess seemed miffed when we asked her for the owner's contact information. Sorry!!! Pros: Nice decor and theme Cons: No room at happy hour. Surly staff. more

Best Hamburgers Anywhere and you haven't lived until you try the Seared Ahi. Bar Menu 7/11/2006

Great for lunch on the weekend. 2/24/2006

I like going to Billy's for lunch on the weekends. It's not crowded for lunch and you get a great view of the boats and the water, and the food's pretty good. Pros: view, relaxed atmosphere Cons: parking more

Great Bartendars and Music, Food -so...so... 8/17/2005

I have been here at different times, and still not to sure. The food is lacking in substance, which I just can't figure out what it is. I have to say, this place is a total scene on the weekends, crowded, noisy, full of women full of plastic surgery and old men with ruddy faces and fat stomachs - in which I wonder how much they paid for the date they are with. Have the fun bartenders pour you a Mai Tai (have a few...and forget about it, I guess). I enjoy the music. As you can tell, this is not my favorite place to dine, but to watch the people - get ready! it 's a freak show! Pros: Good parking, Music, Strong Drinks Cons: Food-so,so, The old crowd more

Great Bar Great Food 9/20/2003

A killer waterfront location, good music, fresh seafood, strong Mai Tai's and great bartenders! Pros: View, Drinks, Music more
