Disappointed 12/31/2011

We were disappointed by the new menu at Bill Johnson's today. My wife's favorite ""three meat"" or ""pig"" sandwich was not on the menu, nor was my favorite bowl of ""cowboy"" chilli. We were left wondering about the changes we observed. New owners? We've been customers for years, but won't be going back. more

Overpriced poor food and service 4/16/2011

Had one of the worst breakfasts in years at the Mesa location this morning. The Southwestern Chorizo Burrito tasted like hamburger with seasoning, couldn't taste the pepper jack cheese or avacado, couldn't taste the egg - all that could be tasted was the over seasoned meat and it's questionable it was even chorizo. Plus, the burrito was like shoeloeather. The knife couldn't even cut it. The salsa... not sure what seasoning was used but it was an awful tomato mess. The home fries were tasteless and limp. Coffee was watered down and not even creamer or sugar could make it palatable. Husbands Wrangler was an overcooked egg, undercooked bacon, and tasteless french toast. The syrup was the only way he could get through the meal. Womens bathroom was dirty and no toilet tissue. Ceiling fan over our booth had years of dust on it. Disgusting! As if all this wasn't bad enough, our server couldn't care less about us or our food. Prices were very high for what we were served and our overall experience. more

Catering Mesa AZ 3/26/2011

I had planned a surprise party for my best friends 30th birthday and immediately was referred to Bill Johnson?s Catering in Mesa AZ through a friend who had used their catering for her wedding here in the valley. It was very inviting and right off the bat I wanted to work with them. I told them I wanted something unique and fabulous for my friend who deserved something special. I decided to schedule an appointment and take things further. They showed me various photos of events their team had put together and they were all beautiful! The website does not even do justice to the assortment of things they can do. Bill Johnson?s staff will work with whatever budget you need. I will continue to recommend Bill Johnson's catering and their entire team, as they are truly the best! more

Restaurants Mesa AZ 3/22/2011

I had the ribs, the BBQ sauce is to die for. They were very tender. My husband had a huge steak was really good. The food is excellent, the decor is interesting. Bill Johnson?s Big Apple restaurants is an institution, although I?m biased to their Mesa, AZ location! Great for breakfast or dinner! Reasonably priced. AWESOME atmosphere. It's a Mesa tradition. All of the food was excellent, the service was perfect an am looking forward to come again and try something new! more

Tender but no flavor 8/26/2006

The most tender baby back ribs I've ever had, but they had none of the expected smokey barbeque flavor that I expect. I could have been eating cardboard. Service good, and sides, particularly coleslaw very good. more

Delicious Food & Awesome Service! 2/28/2006

Although I don't get to dine there as much as I would like, Bill Johnson's Big Apple is one of my all-time favorite restaurants to go to. I have introduced so many people to it and it is a tradition for my friends to get together there AT LEAST once a month. The food is good, I would suggest getting the zucchini to start with, then try the 9oz Sirloin or the BBQ 1/2 Chicken, and then for dessert: DEEP DISH APPLE PIE, my favorite! Sometimes I just go in for a cup of coffee and pie...the atmosphere is great! I recommend this restaurant to anyone and everyone who hasn't tried it before! Pros: value, quality, atmosphere more
