I have to recommend strongly against patronizing this dental practice.\r
\r
I was referred to this practice for a root canal.\r
\r
I had the root canal performed, which went reasonably well. The treating doctor (Bethoney) seemed competent, as did his medical assistant. I was a little surprised at the number of radiographs (pictures) they needed to take (10-20), and that Dr. Bethoney had never heard the term ""millirem"" or know what one was. (This is the basic unit of radiation. You get them from x-rays and other sources. There is an annual limit on how many millirems you should receive.) \r
\r
They told me I needed a second root canal, but at $960 per, I decided that was more than I could afford. I didn't want to have a whole new set of pictures taken at a new practice, however, so I wrote Brandon Endodontics to request my medical records, including all the pictures. I was surprised then to get several voice mails from Bethoney, without the records being produced.\r
\r
Finally, the practice produced some of my records, but not all. Only 5 pictures were produced. One page of pictures looked as though it had been cut off with scissors. I called about it, and got an argumentative young woman on the phone, who claimed that was all she had. I requested a callback from Dr. Bethoney, who had been eager to talk to me the week before.\r
\r
Instead, Dr. Orrantia, the practice owner, called back. He was quite heated and unprofessional. He kept talking over me. Without having been present during my root canal, he denied that as many pictures as were taken in fact were. He then claimed to have 7 pictures (and not 5), but had no explanation for why the page was cut off. He became more and more agitated and defensive, then suddenly declared I was not welcome as a patient at his practice, and hung the phone up.\r
\r
Even by Florida standards, Brandon Endodontics is comprised of some of the most unprofessional doctors I have ever had to deal with. I strongly recommend you avoid being treated at this practice, which apparently has got some kind of misconduct it wants to hide.
Pros: N/A
Cons: Unprofessional behavior, hiding of medical records
