My fiance and I booked the Sterling Inn for our wedding. We had to cancel due to financial hardships. We paid a $1500 deposit. They told us that we would not get our deposit back, which I understood when I signed the contract. When we cancelled, there was a $3000 cancellation fee that they waived (which if I was going to pay $3000 to cancel, we may as well have had the wedding there, duh). When we went in to meet with the manager, she made a verbal agreement to us that if someone booked the room on the same day that they would give us our deposit back. I had my mother-in-law to be call to see if there was a room available for the date because she was looking for a last-minute reception site. They said no, it was booked and they only had the smaller room booked. So we knew we were getting the deposit back. When we called back a couple of weeks later, they told us that the room was not booked and that we would not get our deposit back. She made a VERBAL COMMITMENT to us that we would get it back. If they didn't want to give it back to us, they should have never made that commitment in the first place and I wouldn't be so angry about the whole situation. I then turned them into the B B B and the manager told the B B B that she never made a verbal commitment and she doesn't know what I am talking about. These people are snakes and I would never recommend them to a single soul. I have family that works there and that is still the way that we were treated.
