Best Buy - A Comedy of Errors - mounting incompetence 2/22/2012

I see the other review submitted by someone else who had a horrible experience at ""Best Buy."" I need to add to that horror story.\r \r I recently tried to contact this West Hartford office 4 times by phone. ""They are there. I see them. I don't know why they're not picking up."" I decided to just go in person. Standing in front of the man, hard to be ignored. He took down my info and set me up for a home installation on Feb. 10th. \r \r Feb 10 - Agent calls and says he cannot find me on GPS. They put down the wrong town! He made it and realized that he did not have what he needed. He was very nice and called to reschedule with me there. I told him to make sure that they did three things:\r \r 1. Correst the town\r 2. Make sure my cell phone was there\r 3. Put me down from 12-4 due to obligations in the morning the day of the reschedule\r \r Feb. 19th. - I show up home at exactly 12 noon, finding 2 message on my home number:\r \r 1st-""Hi this is the technician. I cannot find you on my GPS. I am heading to the other job since I cannot find you.\r 2nd - Hello, this is the scheduling office. You'll have to reschedule since we cannot find you.\r \r I called the technician who said, ""I am at the other job about to start. You'll have to probably reschedule. I can try to come to you after I finish this job, but it looks like a big job. Even if I get there, I have another job immediately after that. If I am not done by 3:30, I have to leave and you have to reschedule anyway. No, I don't have your cell number here and my sheet says you were in from 8-12 noon.""\r \r I called the 888-BESTBUY. Spoke with a guy who was nice, told me I had to reschedule. None of the options worked. I asked to speak with manager. Manager said, ""I see you put down 12-4, but someone forced you into the technician's schedule for 8-12! They still have the wrong address here and no cell number. I will look into this and try to get you compensated for the problem. Please hold.""\r The first guy I spoke to said, ""Oh, you spoke to the manager. OK, hold.""\r A woman got on the phone: ""Hello?"" I said, ""You have no idea who I am or why you're on the phone, is that right?"" ""Yes, sir. I just saw the phone ringing and I picked up. I can look into this and send you an e-mail with the resolution and case number.""\r \r No e-mail from her.\r \r Called back the 888 number and the manager said, ""Oh, that's between Corporate and the store. I cannot do anything. I will call the store.""\r \r West Hartford rep calls: ""I can give you $50.00 back, but that is it.""\r \r I got a $25 on its way from corporate. \r \r Phew. I will never be dealing with these clowns again. Just hope that this helps someone else avoid the same hastle. \r \r Second, I saw a group of CD's, with a sticker that said, ""Season 4"" on it, only to find out when I tried to return these that the sticker said in small letters...is to debute soon."" In a hurry, I saw this said SEASON 4 and bought it. THen, found it was Season 3. According to the manager, Federal Law says you can only exchange like for like, refusing to give me my money back and only allowing me to get another Season 3. \r \r more

Best Buy proved to be Worst Buy in my entire life 5/14/2011

Do you remember the days before the big chain stores when there was customer service? I can recall going to G. Fox and being waited on by a sales representative without sending out a search party. I can also recall a “no questions” asked policy of returning merchandise.\r \r About a month ago, during the crunch time of tax season, I purchased an expensive laptop on sale at a Best Buy nearby. At the time of purchase, I knew that I would not have the time then to set the computer up, install various programs, go out and purchase additional programs (since my older computer had Windows Xp and this new laptop had Windows 7), install these new programs as well, and transfer all of my data files onto the new computer. Such a laborious process often consumes a week’s time if all goes well; otherwise, it could consume an eternity.\r \r So I left the laptop sealed and packaged in what appeared to be a flawlessly intact box, believing that it was better left protected in styrofoam, hermetically seal plastic wrap, and a thick cardboard casing than on a desk, prey to six very curious cats. Of course, I foolishly thought that if there were any problems with the laptop, that I could exchange it at Best Buy for another laptop. How dumb!\r \r Yesterday when I finally had time to set up the new laptop, I opened the box, only to discover that the monitor screen had been damaged, making the computer completely useless. Consequently, I hopped into my car and drove down to Best Buy, expecting to exchange the computer for an undamaged one. How dumb again!\r \r When I attempted to exchange the laptop, the manager on duty regarded me with the suspicion of a Gestapo officer examining my DNA. In spite of my repeated assurances that I had not dropped the laptop–swearing up and down that I had not even removed it from the box–he was as unmoved as an IRS agent seizing the very last dollar from my bank account. I explained to him that I had deliberately kept it in its protective styrofoam, sealed and unopened, and stored it in a safe place in my home, away from any temperature extremes, until I was prepared to set it up. My pleas of innocence were of no consequence. He refused to exchange it.\r \r He did, however, offer to send it back to the manufacturer, adding, with the look of “don’t hold your breath’, that it would be entirely up to the manufacturer as to whether the damaged laptop would be replaced by Toshiba. It then occurred to me that Best Buy was simply throwing me under the bus to the whim of a manufacturer located perhaps in some very far off distant land.\r \r The young lady at the desk, who processed my service requisition to have the laptop sent back to Toshiba for possible consideration of an exchange, explained that unless customers return their damaged laptops within an hour or so after purchase, that they are often regarded with the suspicion of having damaged the laptops themselves. I then regretted not having brought a urine sample. I then looked in vain for a lie detector test behind the customer service desk.\r \r So I decided to post this blog entry to make other individuals aware of Best Buy’s posture toward its customers. There’s an old saying: buyer beware. I would also caution when purchasing anything at Best Buy, be afraid…be very afraid, and be certain to bring along your attorney, a notary public, and two witnesses. Needless to say, I recommend never buying anything at Best Buy. But if you do not mind being regarded as a liar, then I suggest before you purchase a laptop from Best Buy, that you have the sales clerk remove it from the box, plug it in, and then test every possible feature and program on that laptop for hours, if not days, before removing it from the store.\r \r Best Buy proved to be the Worst Buy of my entire life. more
