I've been here about 5 times in the past couple years and always have a great meal. The staff (expecially the one with tattoos) are friendly and know the food well. Fondue and d...

Wanted to support a local independent cafe for a Sunday breakfast. Our first visit to Berlin Inn was disappointing enough to be the only time that we will ever go there. We ordere...

Dog Friendly! 9/5/2003

This place is now at the top of my list! It's very hard to find a place where you AND your dog are very welcome. We had the best wait staff and made this a place we will definitely return to. Pros: food, pet friendly, staff more

Fantastic 4/24/2003

It's not often you find a German restaurant that goes to such lengths to be authentic. Although, I'm not an expert on German cuisine, I was impressed with the quality and the variety of items. I can't wait to go back and try other items on the menu. Cons: Small dining area more

Gott sei Dank! 1/22/2003

Thank God, there's a good (really good) German restaurant in Portland. I'm not going to mention that Disneyland place on Sandy. This, the Berlin Inn, has truly authentic German food (and having lived in Germany for four years, this rater does know...) Great beer selection, fun atmosphere. Make sure you try the Rotkraut if you're bold enough. So thankful to have found this little gem! Pros: authentic, delicious, friendly Cons: -none- more

My wife hates dining with me 10/19/2002

thought I would respond first to the last few posts complaining about:(on soap box) Spatzle- it is supposed to be bland it is Eggs, Flour, and a little salt. Mix it with the sauce on your plate. What your mom did to it to get you to eat it I don't know. Fondue- the dish served at the Berlin Inn is prepared with a smoked gouda cheese. Different then The velveta you have been buying all these years. (off soap box) This is one of the few places my family will go with me to eat I am so darned picky and it embarasses them. The service is some of the best in town , the Value for is good, the food is Fresh, not prepared days or weeks in advance and stored in some freezer somewhere and then shipped to Portland. My suggestion: TRY IT AGAIN!!(off soap box) Pros: Food, Service, Desserts Cons: Small, wait if no resv,, stairs more

Top 3 overall in Portland 10/11/2002

I'm not one to give high marks (see other reviews), but this place is a gem. The Wiener Schnitzel was outstanding, as the coating didn't slide off. The red cabbage was the best I've had; Salmon Chowder wasn't too fishy. Dessert selection was extensive (maybe too many cake-type choices); the rasberry/chocalate was moist and flavorable. If you like beer, try the Salvator Double Bock. The Spatzel noodles were a bit bland. We tried a variety of breakfast dishes, all were exceptional: cinnamon rolls, chicken schnitzel, fondue, and both potato sides. Price related to portion was a tad high (and most dinner selections are simply overpriced), so go for lunch or weekend brunch. Lastly, the service is superb! Pros: wiener schnitzel, beer selection Cons: noodles more

okay...not going there again 9/23/2002

Although the staff was extremely friendly and attentive, the food was at best, okay. The sauerkraut seemed very greasy to me. The spaetzle wasn't bad, nor was it anything special. I did like their deli next door though! The food was not worth the price. I will try another German restaurant or continue to make my own at home. more

mmmm 9/16/2002

I stumbled on this place and decided to try it- only ordered the fondue which sounded really great but was only mediocre(and expensive!). the desserts looked fabulous tho and i'd probably try some of the entrees if i was in the area again. As to the beers- i bought an EXPENSIVE bottle of european imported beer that supposedly won gold medal as best out of 200 european beers- the **** tasted like coors. So just order a dang coke! Service was amazing though and typically that's what wins me over :) I'd give 'em another try! Pros: BEST SERVICE, atmosphere Cons: very spendy, mediocre food more
