False authenticity 7/29/2002

I recently stopped by Benihana's for a taste of ""real"" Japanese cooking. I have to say that I was very dissapointed. Sure.....the structure itself was somewhat aesthetically pleasing ( specifically the garden ) but the food was mediocre. The service is very impersonal...it was obvious they take more importance in their regulars. I was in Japan 1 year ago..and I have to say Benihana's does not come close to authentic Japanese cuisine.
