Couture Bridesmaid Dress 3 sizes too big!! 8/28/2011

I went to Brenda with a very expensive couture bridesmaid dress that came to me from the vendor 3 sizes too big!! With the wedding coming up in two weeks you can imagine how I felt. When I met Brenda I explained to her my situation. She immediately put me at ease by ensuring she is a professional and CAN make this dress fit. I tried on the dress and she took my measurements. It was clear the dress was oversized but Brenda was not worried. The price she charged was more than reasonable considering how much work she needed to do on the dress. I went to try on the dress one week later and it was a complete SUCCESS!! Thank you kindly Brenda :) more

Terrible Service - Rude and Unprofessional 8/1/2010

Over the weekend, I brought a bridesmaid dress to Brenda to be altered. I had never used her services before, but decided to give it a shot after reading the many great reviews on this website. Unfortunately, however, my experience with Brenda as detailed below can only be described as nightmarish. She was rude, extremely unprofessional, and in the end, the dress that she altered is unevenly hemmed. When I called the store ahead of time, I explained what I was looking to have done and my timeframe (the wedding is still more than 3 weeks away) and she said it would be no problem. When I got to the store however I noticed a sign on the door stating that she would be leaving on vacation in a few days and would not be back until after the wedding. So before even trying on the dress, I asked her about this because if she couldn't do it and would be away on vacation, I would have to go somewhere else. She assured me however that she would do it before she left in a few days and that there would be someone working at the store on Saturdays and Tuesdays while she was away to pick it up. Given her reassurances, I went ahead and tried on the dress for her. While pinning the dress for me, she was extremely rude and impatient, which should have tipped me off then that maybe she was not someone I would want to work with. Several hours later I received a voicemail message from her saying that the dress was done and that I needed to either meet her downtown or in Lexington Center that night to pick up the dress. Apparently she was no longer sure whether there would actually be someone at the store while she was away so if I didn't come to get it, I wouldn't get my dress in time. In our series of back and forth phone calls after that, she did not apologize even once for any inconvenience in having me rearrange my plans so I could pick up my dress from her, despite the fact that she had specifically told me that I could pick up my dress at my convenience in the next few weeks. Moreover she was entirely uncompromising about when and where I could pick up the dress from her. Even though I brought the dress to her store in Brookline specifically because it was close to where I live, she told me I had to either meet her ""somewhere downtown"" in two hours or drive out to her in Lexington. Rather than drive out to Lexington, I went to the trouble of rearranging my schedule to meet her that day ""somewhere downtown"". That somewhere downtown where she had me meet her turned out to be in front of CVS in downtown crossing!! When she showed up with my dress she had the nerve to ask me whether I wanted to go into the CVS bathroom to try it on. Given the infuriating experience up until that point, I told her that I thought she had been extremely rude and unprofessional and that I would not only tell my friends about the terrible experience I had, but that I would also be writing this review. She never came right out and apologized, but just simply said that it's not normally like this and that it was only because she was leaving on vacation soon. To which I told her that she should not have accepted the dress to alter in that case and that had I known this was the service I would get, I would have gone somewhere else. The only thing that she somewhat did right was agree to refund a very small portion of the cost, but only at my request. Lastly, I may have been slightly less irritated had the dress been altered perfectly. However I tried on the dress and one side is quite distinctly shorter than the other. At this point, I have no faith in her services and will simply be waiting until I visit my parents to have the dress fixed by their tailor. So in summary, I would not recommend this tailor to anyone. If it were possible to give no stars on this site, I would. more

Great service 6/20/2010

I recently purchased a sport coat that fit great except for the length in the arms - the piece was challenging to alter due to the number of buttons on the arms. Where this would cost a boatload most places, Bendi's was very reasonable. On top of that, the service was friendly. When I went to pick up the piece, the taylor took a look and was not satisfied with the work - a minor alignment of the buttons that I never would have picked up on, but being a professional and a perfectionist, the problem was corrected on the spot and no additional cost. more

Amazing Tailor!!! 5/29/2009

I went into Benny tailoring or Thursday evening. They were closed. They opened the door, fitted my suit and had it all turned around within 36 hours. Amazing. Every man and women needs a great tailor. She is mine! Pros: Last minute work, well priced Cons: none! more

Excellent Tailoring service near Coolidge Corner 12/5/2008

Excellent tailor. She altered several pants with lining for me, She did an excellent job, she is pleasant, clear, and efficient. She completed ontime. The shop is bright and pleasant, there is a curtained dressing room. \r I recommend her for tailoring for women. A welcome service on Beacon Street near Coolidge Corner. more

Nice Neighborhood Tailor 11/14/2008

Benny used to own this nice little tailoring shop in Brookline. It was once rated the Best of Boston! I used to go there when I had premium designer clothe that needed alteration. more

Great local tailor 10/22/2008

Very nice neighborhood tailor with friendly, personal service. I had a pair of suit pants that I needed altered next day for a job interview that came up at the last minute. I dropped them off at about 6pm and she called me later that night saying that they were already done and I could pick them up any time the next day. Impressive turnaround and a nice touch to call me personally and let me know the status. I will be going back for my future tailoring needs. more

WTF? A tailor who won't take measurements? 9/17/2008

I went there with the hopes to get some measurements for a groomsmen suit that I need to get in Korea for a wedding. The lady behind the counter said I don't take measurements, regardless of the measuring tape wrapped around her neck. I tried to tell her that I would pay just for her to measure me, but still no go. \r \r Kind of a bizarre experience. I'm still shaking my head at it.\r \r This was the first time being at a tailor where I didn't buy the clothes from. But the lady's attitude was extremely poor and unhelpful. I don't know how their finished product is, but I wouldn't recommend this place.\r more

a good neighborhood tailor 8/20/2008

i live in brookline and have generally gone to benny, and have not had any problems with the tailoring. however, lately i brought in several items which he told me could not be fixed - he did not have the special kind of thread, or the problem was not fixable. although i appreciate his honesty, i was a little put off when he could not, or would not, recommend any other tailor in boston who might be able to fix my clothes.\r \r lo and behold, i found alan rouleau (tailor on newbury street), and brought my clothes to him - he was able to fix my items at a reasonable cost and they look great. \r \r so in summary, benny is fine for your neighborhood tailor, and he does a good job - but if he tells you ""no,"" then try alan rouleau on newbury street. Pros: a good neighborhood tailor, convenient for those who live in brookline Cons: cannot fix difficult tailoring problems more

Couldn't rate higher 11/28/2007

In summary, I had 5 pairs of expensive pants ($80+ each) that needed to be hemmed. I'm 5' tall so this is usually a painful and risky task. The last thing I needed was a bad hem job. So I looked up reviews of local tailors and Benny's stood out. His resume (he worked at Louis' of Boston for 14 years--handpicked by them for his work in Hong Kong) and reviews stood out among all others. However, Brookline is not convenient to me...but I needed top notch hemming because of my investment in these pants. Long story short, I just picked up my pants/jeans yesterday and I couldn't be happier with Benny's work on all 5 pairs. As he and his wife stressed to me, the quality of his work would be worth the extra price (about double what a typical dry cleaner would charge), and he was correct. After all, there's nothing worse than ruining an $80 pair of work pants with a bad $10 hem job that makes them essentially unwearable. On a side but important note, I'd also like to add that Benny and his wife were so friendly, which was a lovely surprise. Benny's clients include Bob Kraft and John Henry, so I just assumed they would treat me with little courtesy or kindness. I was very wrong. Therefore, I have nothing but the nicest things to say about this business, and if I ever need anything done, from the most complex tailoring to the simplest tailoring, I will absolutely bring it to Benny's and recommend him to any and all are looking for a true craftsman. Pros: Talented craftsman who couldn't be nicer and more meticulous Cons: Brookline traffic/irritating location more

always a bridesmaid.... 6/13/2007

I have taken two bridesmaid dresses to Benny, one a 3 layer chiffon/satin floor length dress to be hemmed and another dress to be taken in on the top. I was with some hesitation as I knew he was known for his men's suit taloring but didn't know where else to go. I was not dissapointed. Although I was nervous waiting for them to be done as he didn't take one measurment while fitting me both dresses came out beautiful and I will definitely bring Benny all of my alterations in the future. Both dresses took about 2-3 weeks to be done and the prices were very reasonable compared to some bridal shops. I highly recommend Benny! more

B EST TAILOR PERIOD 4/8/2007

Benny is the best tailor I have ever used. He is a master craftsman who is also personable and honest. I shop at Louis of Boston, Alan Belzarian, and other high end establishments. When I mention Benny's name every one has the highest praise for him and his work. Benny has not only done an outstanding job with everything I've given him, he has also advised me to not spend the money on his services when the work would result in something less than perfect due to the nature of the alterations required. For example, I bought 2 suits recently that the salesman told me were fine --but they were too wide in the shoulders and Benny advised me to return them since no adjustment will remedy the problem. He actually didn't want to take the money because he wanted me to wear only that which could be made to fit perfectly. Bennie has also taken the time to explain to me the kind of cuts that would most flatter my body (and why). \r \r In short, Benny is an exacting and masterful tailor and an honest and decent man whom one can trust. I'd like to keep him a secret but the last review was so far of I decided to post my own. more

Good - NOT amazing 2/1/2007

I recently had a few pairs of pants altered by Benny. He did a nice job, expect for one pair. In that case, one leg was longer than the other by almost an inch. For trousers, that's a big difference. But Benny's a professional - he immediately acknowledged his mistake and corrected the problem. They were ready the next day, free of charge. But for someone who touts his reputation so proudly, and who charges such high prices (each pair was $25 for a basic hem!), the problem I encountered was unexpected. I guess I'd go back to Benny - but only for specialized tailoring. For basic alterations, he's too pricey. And his service, while definitely superior, isn't perfect. more

Not Cheap, But Worth It 10/9/2006

I took a suit that I recently purchased to Benny for tailoring. There was an extensive amount of work that needed to be done to the suit. The suit fit like a glove when I picked it up. Benny was also very personable and attentitve. I will be taking all my alterations to Benny from now on. Pros: Service, Quality Cons: Cost, Location more

Best Tailor 9/20/2006

I brought Benny an expensive dress to alter and he did a wonderful job. He explained how he would have to maneuver alterations and what the costs would be. He and his wife are very friendly and the dress fits like a dream. He kept his promise of having it done by the date of the wedding and when I picked it up, the dress had also been steamed. A wonderful experience. I highly recommend him! Pros: Parking, lights in the fitting room, clean floors more

Magnificent 3/24/2006

Although Benny Ho is known for his superb men's tailoring, he did an excellent job on my evening gown. I'm planning on taking all my future alteration needs to him. More impressive, however, was that he and his wife were so attentive and friendly that I felt like part of his family. I will never go to another tailor in Boston. more

Going anywhere else is a huge mistake 3/16/2005

I brought a few suits and other items to another ""tailor"" and their work was terrible. In fact, they almost ruined the clothes by taking out too much material. I saw the Benny Ho had a very high rating on Citysearch and decided to see if he could save the day. Within minutes of walking in, it was very obvious that Benny was truly a professional. After showing me how the other ""tailor"" had butchered my suit coats, I thought that all hope was lost. A week later, I went to go try them on, I was extremely impressed with the way the fit, it was almost as if they were custom made. Benny is absolutely incredible and a master at his trade. I highly encourage anyone who is going to invest the money in decent clothing to pay Mr. Ho a visit, you won't regret it! Pros: Skill, Location, Service more

High Quality Work 1/5/2005

Great high quality work. Benny Ho used to be a tailor at Louis Boston. More expensive than the little guy around the corner, but worth it, at least for good quality garments. more

The Best! 9/18/2002

Benny Ho is a great tailor, years of experience and wonderful workmanship. I highly recommend him. Pros: Workmanship, Service more
