Average Spa--Pedicure Experience from Hell 10/29/2008

I decided to indulge myself in the $60 basic pedicure at Bella Sante on Newbury today during my week off from work. I had a $100 giftcard and was ready for some pampering. I was horrified at the experience that took place for the hour that I surrendered myself to the "SPECIALIST" pedicurist. The spa pedicure was a quick 30 min tops, not the 60 min "miracle treatment" as promised. The pedicurist was snippy with me from the moment I greeted her and to be frank I could not understand what the heck she was even saying. During our time together she managed to soak my feet in cold water, shoot me dirty looks especially when looking at the bottom of my heel after my cold water soak and to my request to cut my nails shorter. She completely skipped the massage part of the service, jumping from the loobing of my leg/foot to quickly whipping it off with a towel. oh and here's the best part. They don't have foot dryers so after slapping on some polish, she sat me in the waiting room and left. I have had better service for $20 at a local salon. The main reason that I am so turned off is that my spa professional had a real air about her, she made me feel guilty that my old polish was still on, that I dry skin and that I took her up on her offer to bring me a cup of tea. I was majorly disappointed. I was so excited about my spa day, and instead found myself thrilled to finally breathe some relief when the elevator doors closed upon my exit. I have $40 left on my card and will hope to redeem it at another location. PS. you can't tip on the gift card. Pros: clean Cons: snippy staff, no parking, pricey for poor service more

Finally an Oasis in the burbs!! 7/31/2008

Wow! This was my first time to the Wellesley location and I was swept away with the tranquil setting and luxurious treatments! So many spas are stuffy but the people at Bella Sante make everyone feel like a VIP...My facial with Beverly was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!! She is extremely knowledgable and the added touch of a foot massage sets this spa above the rest! Gerda's massage is like NO other you've experienced...THE BEST! I've always enjoyed the other 2 locations but to have this at my back door is heaven!! Pros: Top notch services, soothing ambience and there's plenty of parking! Cons: NONE more

BELLA SANTE ON NEWBURY!! 7/9/2008

I came to Bella Sante and from start to finish, the customer service was AMAZING. I felt like a celebrity!! I had a Bella facial with Jackie and my skin looked and felt great. Although she looks young (I didn't ask), she knows her stuff and seems experienced- she even gave me secrets to caring for my skin at home. I hate extractions but it wasn't bad, besides, the pampering made up for it big time!!! I travel a great deal and I've been to spas all over. Truth be told, this is one of the best experiences I've had and I just had to write about it. Pros: Great Customer Service Cons: none more

best facial right here in wellesley, ma 7/4/2008

i just had the best facial ever. Her name is beverly and i was so relaxed and informed all at the same time... as i was put under the steam, she offered me a foot rub or a head rub, i took the head, and it made me go to lala land.... other places just leave you as the steam works, but not here.... My husband even said, wow, your skin looks great, and he never notices that stuff.... the staff was so nice, and i loved drinking their water with the floating lemons and oranges in it. I really felt like i was away on vacation after leaving the spa... Pros: great parking instead of parking in the city more

I can't wait to go again! 7/3/2008

Bella Sante in Wellesley is a haven of relaxation. Walking into the spa, I immediately begin to feel my stress diminish - the atmosphere is calm and inviting, the changing room/shower area is always exceptionally clean, and the services are always first rate. I have had four different massage therapists and they have all been great and all with their own particular strengths (eg when I need deep tissue I ask for Greg or Caroline) I have also received amazing facials - a great deal because you almost get a shoulder, back, and arm massage too. I can't recommend Bella Sante enough. more

awesome! 7/3/2008

I've been to the Spa on Newbury before and absolutely loved it so I was anxious to see if they could duplicate the experience at the new spa in Wellesley. It was incredible!!! The first thing I saw was a gorgeous water wall in the reception area, so serene. So beautiful and clean. Everyone was very nice and so knowledgeable about their products. I had an incredible facial, Carita, and a 90 minute massage. I didn't want to leave! I highly recommend Bella Sante You can't be disappointed! Pros: lots of parking, also good shopping and restaurants close by so you can make a day of it more

Best Day Spa in Boston..Bar None 7/2/2008

I go to all 3 locations and find all of them to be fabulous. The desk staff are always helpful and happy to see me when I arrive and treat me well as I leave. I've never had a bad experience in the 8 years that I've been frequenting Bella Sante...and I've been to other day spas in NYC and destination spas all over the country. I've always found Bella Sante's staff to be consummate professionals. I find it sort of funny..the negative reviews...there are just some people who are never happy and LOVE to complain! (Maybe they should just stay home.) more

Fantastic spot- must visit! 7/2/2008

Today I had a nice experience. I don't typically take the time to say 'thank you' to a business...but I feel it necessary to take a moment and express gratitude to the folks at Bella Sante. Everyone was warm and inviting....the space was sparkeling clean and the Spa Director even took a moment to introduce himself to me!! I felt like I was a movie star.....like I was their only guest. I had a Carita facial (WOW!) and a massage....from David (former Best of Boston Massage Winner....he told me this!!).....I kind of lost myself and spent a lot of time hanging around the lounge area....I didn't want to leave and restart my hectic life. I will be back soon. Great spot. Pros: snacks, can use credit card for tips and great people Cons: need more amenities in the locker-room more

OVer-priced, Over-hyped 5/20/2008

I received a gift card here for two facials. I regularly get facials and have experienced many Boston facials as well as facials within the Boston suburbs. I was very disappointed with Bella Sante. I found the front desk staff to be VERY unorganized which added a high element of chaos to what was suppose to be a relaxing experience. The staff were clearly distracted and on personal phone calls. They were frustrated with keeping the locker room tidy. The spa was very clean and peaceful looking. My facials were very poor - and my skin has developed some kind of perpetual peeling since January from the products used. I found the products to be extremely expensive and the staff were not knowledgeable about the benefits of the various products, but were happy to encourage clients to drop their cash. What I thought would be a special time turned out to be disappointing --- I do not recommend this place for facials. Pros: pretty setting Cons: staff, over priced, putting your face at risk, no parking more

Horrible manicure 5/16/2008

I have been to several places in Boston for manicures and this was by far the worst experience. I got there 10 minutes early as they ask and had to wait about ten minutes into my appointment. The waiting would not have bothered me (as it was only ten minutes) however the manicurist rushed through the appointment. She gave me literally five seconds to pick out a color! The hand massage part was non-existent-- she slathered on hand cream and then rubbed it off. Then she quickly put on the paint and had to clean up all of her mistakes with nail polish remover. There are no drying stations so she told me to go sit in the waiting room and let them dry for 15 minutes. For $27 I was expecting to be pampered. I do have to say that everyone was very nice and it was a welcoming, relaxing atmosphere. I would probably go back to try out some of their body treatments but I definitely would not go back for a manicure--not worth the money! Pros: Ambience, friendly Cons: Manicures more

Worst Manicure 4/26/2008

Went to Bella Sante for a day of beauty a week ago. The massage, facial and other services I got were fabulous but when it came to the manicure- I was beyond disappointed. The woman who did my nails painted my whole finger (literally) and spent all of the time cleaning up her mistakes. Far too expensive for such poor quality- you are better going off somewhere else for a manicure! Pros: Massages, Facials Cons: MANICURES more

Awesome waxing! 12/18/2007

I have gone to Bella Sante for a variety of services from the bronzing treatment to waxing and I have had a great experience each time. They are highly professional and the products they use are fantastic- esp. the wax- they are the most pain-free I have ever had (and I have had plenty). My only issue has been having to wait a few minutes during a busier time of year- such as during the holidays. Otherwise, I recommend it for a great escape- esp. during weeknights when fewer people are at the spa. Pros: Cucumber water, robes, new showers/locker room Cons: Waiting in busy season more

better than average 12/15/2007

i love the atmosphere/ambience of bella sante on newbury street. i used to go to bella sante in lexington. but the bella sante on newbury street is better. granted, i have not been to the lexington bella sante since they remodelled, i don't want to go back there. i even had left over facials there but the experice at lexington bella sante spa is just not as nice as the experience at the newbury street location. same name, not the same spa - that's what i would say. what i like about bella sante on newbury street too is that the aestheticians, while they are blunt and a little bossy, tell you what you are doing wrong in your skin care. i had three or mroe different aestheticians there. all of them i would recommend if i could remember their names. but one person i would never go back to! she would use her arms (from elbow to her hands) to masasge my face. doesn't that sound a little odd? i actually don't like the foot massages at bella sante. foot massage and facial by the same person at the same time? no thank - you. over all experience at bella sante - very professional, very soothing, very refreshing, would go back there except that i found a better deal in my neighborhood. Pros: lovely ambience Cons: high price (but it is on newbury street isn't it?) more

So-So 10/23/2007

I went to Bella Sante recently for a massage. The receptionist told me my treatment was supposed to begin in one minute, so if I didn't want to cut things short I needed to get changed really quickly, which I did. After I came out of the changing room I wound up waiting for a few more minutes (not a huge deal) before my masseuse (sp?) came to get me. The massage was decent, not earth shattering, but most disappointing to me was the fact that it was supposed to be a 50 minute massage, and when I looked at the clock in the room following the massage, it was only 38 minutes after my appointment was supposed to begin. Assuming I got started about 7 minutes late, this was only about a 30 minute massage. I understand the treatment being cut short if I was late for the appointment, but this got shortened on both ends. Not what you'd expect when you're paying Newbury Street prices. Pros: Good location, relaxing decor Cons: Didn't get full treatment time more

Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde 4/3/2007

My mom and I went for a girl?s day out. We got massages followed by facials. During my entire 50-minute massage there were noises penetrating the room. It was very distracting and hard to relax. Then when it was time for my facial it was amazing. The room was quite, music relaxing, and the treatment was great. I felt like I went to two different spas. Why couldn't the massage have been as great as the facial? Not sure I would go back because at those prices, I want to guarantee relaxation. Pros: Staff is nice Cons: Very noisy more

Beware the product sales pitch 1/22/2007

My girlfriend has been going here regularly, and likes the spa services a lot. The last couple times she bought some products after she was told she that if she didn't like them after a couple weeks, she could return them. This most recent visit, she bought a whole line of a product, including some foul tasting vitamin powder. She couldn't even drink a single serving of it, but said, "no problem, they said I could return it." I went with her to return it, and the woman at the counter told us they didn't take returns. Also, she didn't sympathise at all with our situation. Just smiled, told us to call the manager if we wanted to complain. Its too bad, my girlfriend spoke so highly of her experiences before that I was ready to go in for a massage. But a bad customer service experience like this is enough to keep us away for good. Pros: Ambience, treatment staff Cons: customer service, product sales tactics more

A Bella Experience 10/23/2006

After having my hair done at Runway Salon, I decided to go across the street to Bella Sante to have a facial and massage. What a fabulous experience for me. I've never felt so relaxed and rejuvenated. The spa itself is beautiful. Beautiful decor. A quiet, relaxing and tranquil environment. It was easy to get an appointment. I just happened to walk in and there was a facialist to had an opening for me. My facialist was excellent. She was very professional and experienced. She had the magic touch! I'm very happy with my experience at Bella Sante and will definitley come back more frequently for facials. Pros: Beautiful Decor, Skill and Expertise, Value Cons: None at all more

A wonderful facial 9/23/2006

I was really not expecting too much when I made my appt. with Bella Sante. The spa Violet on Newbury St had awesome reviews on this site and my massage there was nothing to write home about. However, Andrea's facial was really great. Her facial massage were just awesome and her whole experience with her was worth the $90. Highly recommended! Pros: Quiet, courteous staff, locker rooms Cons: Parking on Newbury street is a pain or expensive or both!!! more

ladies room is getting shabby 8/21/2006

Enjoy Bella Sante very much. Had a facial a few weeks ago and it was great! No complaints about the service.. but I feel that the bathroom / lounge area is getting a little run down. Cons: getting run down more

A bit of everything. + Strange Cult like music?? 4/16/2006

I frequent Bella Sante Lexington. I will say the place usually gives me a chance to relax with peaceful music & surroundings (I'm a mom!). But recently I had a massage late in the evening. It was an average massage but I was relaxed until the music (usually pan flute, birds, water) became faster and suddenly I realized I was hearing a deep male voice speaking within the music. I don't know what he was saying but it was beyond freaky. There also was laughing sounds & at first I even wondered if I was imagining the sounds. Well, I most definitely was not imagining. It was late, dark & I couldn't ask what was going on with the music. I pretty much ran out of there. I have left over on my cards but I don't know about that last experience. Cons: Only one Bathroom more
