I went there on a late Sunday afternoon shortly before sunset. We were asked for a reservation but were seated promptly without though. The very friendly and conversational waiter...

Worst

Ever pay $30 for an entree that you can get at any roadside diner in Malibu for $10? If so, you've been to Beau Rivage. The ambiance is great as is the service. My suggestion: ...

worst place in the world 10/10/2010

We went ther couple times for b-day party with family and friend, i loved that place, so desisted to go there yesterday night - i can't even explain how bad was it!!!!!!! The food was bad, i 've order cesar salad and i asked them to put grilled chicken in there too, they brought two peaces of green salad, 3 peaces of dry, tasteless chicken .... do you know how much they charge me for adding chicken - $18 :) after we've paid a check which came out as 210$ for 4 people , waiter came and sad that we didn't leave him enough tips, he sad : usually people would leave him 25-35% ..... can you imaging? well, if you want to go there - be prepare for bad service and bad food, the only nice thing about this place - nice old-style decor....that's IT!!!!! more

If you are thinking of going there, I would think twice!! 2/18/2009

My wife and I went to Beau Rivage over 11 years ago on our first date. It was one of our favorite restaurants and has held special memories in our past. That ended Valentine?s night 2009. The service and food have become disastrous. We?re seated right away, but it took 15 mins for a server to offer us anything. We?re seated at an ok table outside; it was too cold for my wife. With some persuasion, we?re seated at a table inside. Now 10 more minutes for our server to offer us anything. Finally I got the host?s attention, and he took our order himself. After 20 minutes, we received our lobster bisque that was very watery and had no flavor. We waited another 30 minutes before our entrees arrived. When my wife tasted the first bite, I knew something was wrong. Her entree, lamb, was cold. The waiter took it back but when it came back it was still cold and looked like it had put in a microwave. At this point, we decided to leave. While all this was going on, we saw several other couples got up and left that evening, or where having problems with the service and food. Pros: Great Location Romantic Atmosphere Cons: Worst Service, abusive owner that doesn't care about service. more

The Romance is GONE! 2/15/2009

My wife and I first went to Beau Rivage over 10 years ago. It was fantastic and has held a special place in our past. That ended last night. The service and food have become disastrous. I had made reservations for Valentine's Day, and decided to introduce our special place to some friends. We ended up standing up half-way through dinner and leaving -- and it wasn't because we had such high expectations. The service and food were just horrible. Something has happened there in the past years. Take your money elsewhere. Pros: Beautiful setting Cons: Horrible service, food average, WAY overpriced, owner doesn't care about service more

Perfect service, sublime Mediterranian fare, romantic setting 7/24/2008

I went there on a late Sunday afternoon shortly before sunset. We were asked for a reservation but were seated promptly without though. The very friendly and conversational waiter arrived at our table for the drinks. The appetizers (dark olive and turkey-rabbit pate) and crispy bread arrived shortly after we ordered the main dish. I ordered a Orange Roughy, wrapped in a brique crepe with mushrooms, sweet peppers and lemon caper-- for $29.00. My Friend had a Norwegian Salmon Steak, grilled with a Champagne-raspberry sauce--price: $27.00. According to our waiter the menu was wholly Mediterranean implying French, Italian and Spanish specialties. Pros: Fare, ambiance, service, atmosphere, parking, crowd more

Beautiful view, lovely interior, dishonest owner, slow service 4/22/2008

I was very excited to have my birthday party at this restaurant. It does feel like a home and the ocean view is stunning. The service at the party ran a bit slow although the restaurant was mostly empty. Still, our group was enjoying the libations of the talented bartender. The head waiter was also extremely helpful in ways when he could. more

Very good food and more at Beau Rivage - ""Beautiful Shore"" 9/23/2007

Upon arriving at this picturesque location, we were warmly greeted and seated promptly near a window with a view of the ocean. We chose the individual menu and not the brunch special - all our selections, such as lamb, steak, chicken and fish were very tasty. The sauce with the fish of the day, black cod, was light yet very flavorful. The dessert menu was extensive, made on the premises, the house wine was good quality. Other pleasant surprises included our charming and knowledgeable waiter, Everett, as well as a pleasant chat with the French owner Daniel Forge, who informed us about the 26 year history of this fine establishment. We look forward to returning for another wonderful experience. more

worst service ever 7/10/2007

My boyfriend brought me here for a romantic anniversary date, it was so nice when we got there really really romantic beautiful view but literally the worst service i have ever receieved. We waited probably 25 minutes to get a menu, then another 30minutes just to order! thats already one hour there without getting anything. While we were waiting 2 tables not 1 but 2 got up and left because nobody came to them it was weird, there was 1 server for like the whole place. Once we ordered, the food was good, but okay not amazing and EXTREMELY over priced especially considering the wait. Not worth it at all, you can find much better french food as well as amazing service and a view anywhere else! Pros: romantin Cons: WORST SERVICE more

Awful experience 6/17/2007

This place used to be special. I don't know what happened but I had the WORST dining experience of my life there recently. There was a celebrity in the place so the service was rude and virtually non-existent as the waiter ignored us totally to fawn over some lower tier celeb. The food was just so so and we could have died of thirst for lack of service regarding our drinks. When we tried to get our check after attempting for 20 minutes to do so the owner's wife came to our table and verbally abused us. When we complained about the service she let us know that a ""VIP"" was in the house and that we were basically nobodies and should not complain. It was incredible. I've never in my life seen anthing like it. I couldn't believe such a horrible caustic attitude towards a patron. I am a very nice person and was really abused by this experience. If you are considering going to this place I have three words for you- ""DON'T GO THERE!!!!"" Pros: nice location Cons: worst service on the planet, abusive owner. more

Charming restaurant...ruined by bad service 2/18/2007

The decor at Beau Rivage is charming and the atmosphere romantic, unfortunately the service ruined what otherwise would have been a fine night. After being sat in a corner table due to a large party in the middle of the main dining area, it was at least 10 minutes before my date and I were even acknowledged and could make drink orders. The server did not go over any specials, just asked us what we wanted. He returned once to bring the food and once to bring the check (15 minutes after I stopped him and requested it). The food was ok, nothing special. I will not be a patron of beau rivage again and I would not recommend it to any of my friends. Pros: Romantic Atmosphere Cons: Service is bad! more

Nice place and attentive service. 10/22/2006

This is a great place to take your family or out-of-towners. The food is consistent (crabcakes are delicious, as is the tomato soup), the atmosphere lush, and the service friendly and attentive without being intrusive. Pros: Location, food, decor. Cons: A little pricey for what it is, but you could do worse. more

Very average 5/29/2006

While the owner is charming, and it seems the staff is trying, I don't think Beau Rivage lives up to the hype. The food was mediocre (at best) and the views don't compare with other Malibu restaurants. For over $100/person, I expect a bit more. more

Amazing experience! 1/17/2006

Daniel and his wife have an amazing and charming resturant. The food and service is excellent! Highly recommend for a lovely evening! Pros: great food, live music, great service more

Fantastic Experience 9/16/2004

This place is right by the water.. the ambience is just so fantastic. The food is fresh and blows your mind away. Its a great restaurant to celebrity spot !! The place is breathtaking but the same time it can be unpretentious. It also has an upstairs venue for large parties and an amazing wine cellar. I hope to get married there someday. Pros: Breathtaking, View, waterfront more

Amazing Restaurant 9/13/2004

What more can i say.. this place is amazing. .you feel like you are in Paris. The service was very good. The food was very tasty. I loved the fresh sea food. The owners come by and personally make sure that your dining experience was perfect. Dont miss the desserts. Everything is made fresh here. Pros: Intimate, Good parking, Amazing fresh food more

Most amazing waterfront restaurant 8/22/2004

This is one of the most cosy and intimate waterfront restaurants in LA. The owners of the restaurant actually work in the restaurant and they greet you and come by and chat at your table to make sure that you are satisfied. The service is amazing. Be sure to try the desserts which are made fresh by the in-house pastry chef. My table all had pastas and salads and everybody loved their meals. Another bonus was the free parking. The best parts other than the food was 1) the well stocked wine cellar; 2) large covered patio; 3) great upstairs banquet room which you can request for a larger party Pros: Intimate, Good parking, Amazing fresh food more

Beautiful! 8/22/2004

This place is gorgeous and cozy. The ocean views are amazing, the food is fabulous, and the service wonderful. The owners are so friendly and attentive as well...a rarity these days to even meet owners of a restaurant who care about their clientele! Some good dishes to try - cappellacci napoletana and lasagna. This restaurant is very vegetarian friendly too. To top it all off - the restaurant has its own pastry chef on site so the desserts are fresh and absolutely out of this world! We tried the cheesecake, fruit tart, tiramisu and creme brulee. Amazing! I am thinking of having my wedding ceremony and reception here because they accommodate events too. What a great place! Pros: Lots of parking, Food, Service more

Way Overrated 9/3/2003

Took my girlfriend here for our 6yr Anniversary and I was really disappointed. The food was O.K at best and really overpriced for what you get. The filet mignon was NOT worth $30. The setting is nice and romantic, but you can't really see the ocean from the window tables. There was no host when we arrived, no valet service and our service was not what one would expect. The piano player is a nice touch, but doesn't make up for other things. I would recommend this restaurant for drinks and appetizers and for listening to the piano. Pros: Romantic, Quiet Cons: No Valet, Over priced more

Incredible experience 7/29/2003

This resaturant was absolutely amazing. The atmosphere was great, the service was excellent. The food was delicious. Everything from appetisers to entrees was divine. The chocolate cake was the best I ever had. We will definetely go back for another special occasion more

Bad Food = Absurd Prices 7/27/2003

Ever pay $30 for an entree that you can get at any roadside diner in Malibu for $10? If so, you've been to Beau Rivage. The ambiance is great as is the service. My suggestion: don't get there hungry, get a bottle of wine, find the one or two good appetizers on the menu (the special baked Brie was good but the lobster bisque was terrible) and then enjoy the atmosphere. Pros: atmosphere, service Cons: food quality, food prices more

Malibu's over-rated spot! 3/13/2003

I live in Malibu & frequent the eateries. The owners of Beau Rivage are nice enough, but time has passed them by. The beautiful spot now serves overpriced, mediocre food; and the servers are tired, too, as well as a bit smug. Many more better places in Malibu now. Pros: location Cons: food, service, value more
