Beantown Tavern

Beantown Tavern in downtown Matthews is one of my favorite places to go. Even to those who are not from Boston or the New England area, or even the north for that matter can enjoy themselves here. During my first experience at Beantown Tavern I came to the bar by myself to have a drink after work. When I walked in I was greeted at the door, I walked into the bar area when I was greeted by another person, this time a gentlemen who I would find out later was the owner, Donnie Gaskin. He was taking care of each customer and doing everything to make other experience great. A lot of regulars and the staff knows everyone's name. They also have great food which also keeps getting better and more improved. They have a huge menu so I can get something different every time, however, I usually get the wings or the clam chowder(so good). Perfect place to go with friends, the patio is big and nice, the pizza is good, waitresses and bartenders go to your tables which is always nice, and also downtown Matthews has some nice bar destinations if you or some friends want to bar hop or just check out what else is out there. Also they have live music on the weekends and the bands are usually really good and nice to dance to. Last time I was there the band was playing the Beatles so I was surely entertained. Beantown is always open 365 days a years from 11am-230am, even on holidays, which is great for me because my schedule doesn't seem to match up with others. Overall, what more can I say, Ive already typed to much, I'm sure I forgot something, but I believe this is my favorite bar, and I know its a lot of other people's favorite also. is one of the smokiest bars in Charlotte. The bar and wait staff stand around chain smoking ignoring the customers. Once you get your table it becomes obvious that the wait staff doesn't care about getting you order correct or getting it to you very quickly. more

This place by far has the worst service you could every imagine and the food is aweful. The one in Matthews was ok when I was there, but the one off of Ardrey Kell is an absolute nightmare! We thought maybe we just caught them on a bad night, but went again this past Wednesday and nobody was there to seat us...again. And then we sat at the bar while the staff was flirting with each other and after 15 minutes of no service we walked to the Irish Bar across the parking lot. I had low expectations as we were only going to drink some beer, but they could not even accomplish getting that served! The first time we were there the person working was too busy grabbing a patrons rear and had his tongue down her throat while we grabbed a menu and sat ourselves. This place was HORRIBLE! The food took forever to be served, and when it was two of the meals went to the wrong table and the rest of them were cold. Trying to get drinks was a joke as well. Me and my wife went there because a friend of ours told us about the place and said if you go there you will not go anywhere else ever again because you will see the passion of donnie the owner. I said to my friend your crazy until we finally decided to go, it was very crowed and it was during a red sox vs yankee game, the place was filled with electricity you could feel the passion of the place and there was donnie buying people shots shaking everyones hand knowing everyones name it was nuts. This guy comes over to us and realizes we were first timers and just made us feel like family in 5 minutes, so we ask the people next to us if donnie is always like this and they say to us that he is the real deal and he will remember you and your name the next time you come in he is beantown. the food is great and service is awesome but me and my wife just say I wish every owner was like donnie my friend was dead on Pros: owner,food,service,electricity more

I have eaten here several times with clients and with family, and have never had a problem with the food. The owner, Donnie is great and treats everyone to free food and drinks during Red Sox games. Being a Yankee fan, you gotta know the food is good for me to continually come back. The only negative would be the service tends to be a bit slow at times. Overall, our visit was average. Not bad, just not great. We came for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. The atmosphere is neat, and the patio is large. The bar area looks nice, with a number of large screens for sports. more

We have been to Beantown a few times now. Being from the Boston area we were delighted to find this tavern. Very friendly place, good bar atmoshere. The clam chowder is excellent! They have two for one appetizes and the nochos are enough for two people to share. However, I must say I do have one complaint. The waitresses are very skimpily dressed. The last night that we were there, there was a young waitress wearing a tube top that she had to pull up all evening. All of the females working there appear to wear very low cut tops. I suppose that is okay for a bar but in the restaurant section (lot's of families with children) I find it a bit out of place. Needless to say my boyfriend enjoyed it, but a number of woman have mentioned the same observation and have mentioned how it makes them a bit uncomfortable. more

I went to Beantown today as a huge Boston fan looking for REAL clam chowder...and got some of the best I've ever had. No matter what your budget is, you could get full there. Sandwiches around 7-9 dollars, entrees anywhere from 13-30. I only had two complaints, one was that there wasn't a designated smoking section at the time we were there. I think it may have been because we were there mid-day, not night or lunchtime. I assume there is one during those times. The other issue I had is small. I felt as if the waitresses were a bit too scantily clad, there was no professionalism at all. One of them kept bending over to talk to her customers, and we could see more than half of her butt. A small issue, I know, but it wasn't appetizing. Pros: Great place to watch the game! Sweet owner, Red Sox and Patriots stuff everywhere :) more

If you are tired of the usual hum-drum of dining places in the Matthews' area, try Beantown Tavern! It is the ""Cheers"" of TV fame in downtown Matthews. Where regulars become known by name and are treated like family. Servers are extremely cordial and aware of cutomers wishes. Meet Donnie and staff for a unique dining/bar experience, I believe you will be impressed! Pros: Great place for snacks, appetisers, full menu and just to relax! more
