No one cooks steak better, not even close. 2/28/2011

Best Fillet in town 6/17/2008

We had our company party at the Depot and before cocktails we decided to try Baxter's. Baxter's has a better Fillet than Spencer's or Flemmings and it only cost $21.95. The room looks great and the entire staff is friendly. Very different for Salt Lake City. We have now been back three times and each time the restaurant manager has come by our table to make sure we were doing well. What a great touch. Baxter's Brunch is fun and perfect for food and Sunday shopping. The Summer menu prices are much better than before. We will be back. Pros: Something new more

Baxter's: A Home Run 6/1/2008

I was recently pleased to find a restaurant here in Salt Lake City that my family could all enjoy. That place is Baxter's American at the Gateway Mall. There was something for everyone. I love meat and potatoes and my wife is a big seafood fan, and they have it all. Even a kids menu that was reasonably priced with plenty of kid favorites. I started with the beer battered onion rings ( perfectly fried and crunchy) and Susan had the ceviche ( fresh scallops, calamari and Halibut). I followed with the filet mignon, cooked to perfect medium rare and a mere $21.95, and she had the salmon with pesto sauce, also prepared just right. The server was very helpful with any questions, not that we had many because we recognized everything on the menu but she was always close by to help if needed. My son had a corn dog with fries and you should have seen his face when it arrived. Truly a foot long. We were all plenty full by then, but out server suggested we try the house made doughnuts, and boy I'm glad she did. Steaming hot, right out of the kitchen with 3 different sauces, chocolate, raspberry and honey butter. I don't know which one I liked best. The room was very comfortable and the backround music was at just the right level. We will be going back as soon as possible now that it is our favorate restaurant in town. Pros: all more

Fantastic Food. 5/29/2008

If you are looking for a resturaunt that is differant and friendly than go to Baxter's. My meals there have been great, the servers are friendly and informative. I would recomend starting with the ceviche or the calimari, even if you are hesitant about eating fish, it is a good way to start the meal. The vary large hamburger is just like it's name very large and will fill your appetite. No dinner at Baxter's would be complete without their famous doughnuts so make some room. Pros: Great food and ambience. Cons: Parking and Price Leave a bit to be desired. more

good! Good! Good! 5/28/2008

Baxters doesn't try too hard like some other places. there are no weird ingredients. there are no pouty ""i'm an actor"" waiters either. If Baxter is a dog he would bite them, if Baxter is a guy he would REALLY bite them. the food is so simple and well done. why didn't anyone else think to put cheesecake on a brownie? isn't that two whole food groups checked off in one dish? Hello? Normally I hate Utah Calamari but I love Baxter's Calamari. Growing up in Florida I got good squid and made my own. then......Baxter started to make it for me (unless he is a dog and then i hope he kept his sniffer out of my food). They have a $22.00 Filet at dinner that is really good and a $10.00 burger that is really good too. it comes with onion rings on it. for a while there was BBQ sauce on it but now it is gone, thank god. Maybe Baxter was out of town that week and when he came back he saw what was happening and got it fixed. Is Baxter a dog? what us up with that? i met a guy who says Baxter went to the UofU with his cousin. Eat here or it will go away and we'll have to eat the same old thing again. Pros: valet, awesome food and knowledgeable staff Cons: not open for breakfast more

Comfy, cozy, and incredible! 2/20/2008

Baxter's is probably the most impressive restaurant I have been to in a while. It is just what Salt Lake needs right now. It is very hip but still so cozy and warm. I don't think I have seen a friendlier, more knowledgeable staff. My husband and I went their before seeing a show at the Depot, and have been back twice since then. The chef from Baxter's was even on ""Good things Utah"" (I only know that because he actually came out to the table to see how everything was! Very impressive!). The menu was so diverse it was hard to decide what to get. They have everything from pizza and burgers to wine brazed lamb shank. There is definitely something for everyone! I had the ribs and they were amazing! Perfectly done, with beautiful presentation! The waiter was so knowledgeable on the menu, you could tell he actually knew what each item tasted like. For me that is very helpful. I have to say though the most impressive thing for me was the dessert! Between my husband and I we have tried most of them and it would be hard for me to pick a favorite. I would recommend this place solely based on the dessert! The hot, fresh, cinnamon sugar donuts (with chocolate, raspberry and honey butter dipping sauces are incredible), but there is also a cheesecake with a brownie! Not to mention my obsession with the chocolate ice cream dish (not sure the name) amazing and once again beautiful presentation. Very reasonably priced for the quality you receive. I could go on and on but this is definitely the spot to check out! Oh and I know it sounds strange but you have to try the cucumber martini! I was hesitant but I love it! I don't normally even like gin (vodka girl) but it was refreshing and delicious! Pros: food, ambiance, and service Cons: none! more

Amazing Pizza, Ribs and Hambergers 2/19/2008

We walked in, saw the copper roof and said wow, this is cool. My wife, son and I were seated at a table with lounge chairs and they were very different, ""cool"" and comfortable. The restaurant looks and feels hip. Our waitress was knowlegeable, attentive and was very personable. The chef and restaurant manager greeted us and discussed the food preparation while taking my son's special order. He wanted spaghetti and meat sauce which was not on the menu but was made specially for him. My wife had the ribs with shoe string french fries which she loved and I had the very large hamberger with home made french fries. This Burger is one of the best in town. The food was amazing with great preparation. Baxter's offers specialty house martinis and the ones we sampled were tasty and creative. We are not sure who Baxter is. The Baxter's staff all have their own theory on who this Pros: Great service. Not your normal Utah, restaurant service. Cons: Shopping after lunch and dinner is going to cost me a lot of money. more

A feast for the senses! 2/14/2008

The moment you walk in to Baxter's, from the beautiful water wall to the incredible copper ceiling, you know this place is different. We went for dinner and had the Burger and Handkerchief Ravioli. The burger was huge, juicy and perfectly cooked to medium rare. It was the best I have had in a long time as were the fries which, our server told us, are hand cut in the every day in the kitchen at Batxer's. The Handkerchief Ravioli was amazing! We had never seen anything like it. Two blankets of incredibly thin pasta enfolding the most amazing combination of cheese and butternut squash puree. It is totally decadent covered in brown butter and sage. It was totally unexpected. We had heard about the desserts, especially the donuts but we were still taken off guard at how good they were. They came to the table freshly cooled and piping hot. We got to sit and smell the cinnamon sugar as they cooled. Amazing, but the best part was the honey butter he got to dip them in. Imagine the lowly donut elevated to iconic status right here in Happy Valley. The interior is cozy and comfortable and we didn't want to move for a long time. the furniture is a combination of conventional tables and the most comfortable lounge furniture. I will make you want to stay a long time too. the service was great and knowledgeable about the food on the menu. What a great place to have here in SLC the experience is so simple and comfortable just like the food. We are going back for the ribs and cheesesteak, we can't wait. See you at Baxter's Pros: ambience, food, service Cons: not enough people know it's there more

Watch out Grandma, these Donuts got you beat! 2/9/2008

Homemade Donuts for Dessert. Need I say more? This place is by far the best restaurant Salt Lake currently has to offer. Being a female with changing moods and massive cravings, there is not one thing on this menu I would not recommend. Aunt flow in town? Check out their Heavenly layered Chocolate Dessert and Homemade Donuts with honey butter and chocolate dipping sauce. Yikes!! You like fish n' chips like I do? They have halibut encrusted with phylo that imitates Don Kings hair, I swear! It's definitely a conversation piece. Brigham Young was right, this is the place. Baxters is where it's at. I have tried Lunch, Dinner and Drinks here. Did I mention that they have $10 lunch specials which include dessert? What a remarkable ambiance, hip n' hot staff, Incredible food, rockin art, and unforgettable desserts. Looking for a great place to go on a first date? Try this place. Even if the date is bad, you can stuff your face with good food, and instead of staring off into nothing, there are a myriad of things to look at. I have found my new favorite place to hang out. Thanks for coming to town Baxters. You are GREATLY appreciated. Pros: Menu Choices, Ambiance, Staff more
