Ambience was lovely but if you are a foodie skip this dining establishment. The appeal of Barton G was purely visual leaving your palate wondering where the flavor went. Lastly, if you have a question on the wine selection, don't bother asking. You probably know more than the wait staff more

Don't bother ordering any drinks unless money is burning a hole in your pocket. It is, though, a fun place with amazing presentation. Save room for dessert! more

First time going to Barton G's and I loved it. The drinks are very pricey, but one drink will get you really buzzed so its equivelent to ordering 2 drinks at any other restaurant. I ordered the Duck, which came out in this enormous duck figurine and my boyfriend ordered the filet mingnon, which melted in your mouth. The service was decent, but the ambience was really nice and not to mention the dessert was amazing!! carnival funnel cake...delicious. Pretty expensive dinner, but it was very nice for a special occasion. more

must see in miami 1/25/2009

This is probably one of the best fine dining restaurants in miami. The food is served in an modern american fashion including plates served with i-fish fouintains and even firehouse dogs. It is a contemporary place with great food the best part and probably the most expensive is the dessert. This is a must see restaurant. Pros: food, service place style. Cons: nothing more

GREAT DISAPPOINTMENT 1/21/2009

I went to this restaurant last year and it was so much better..This time You could not read the menu, find the waiter, and forget about a dessert if you are a party with less than 4 people.. The food is very expensive and quality ok to poor// THE MOST APPALLING-- they use American ""Valveeta""-type trans fat laden--so called cheese in their $23 for a small bowl of mac and cheese.. In fairness they did take this off our bill when we complained. more

When we first got our food at Barton G's we were soo excited to eat it because the presentation was so beautiful and it made for an exciting dining experience. However, I tried my sisters short ribs and two hours later I was feeling nauseous and got sick from the food. The food tasted decent, but I expected more from an expensive restaurant and couldn't even eat my pasta. more

Overrated!!! Don't be fooled by all the goo goo eyed tourists 12/1/2008

My brother was in town and this is one of his favorite restaurants. He paid $200 for the Waygu Beef Steak which he said was like butter so of course he would be impressed. I had high hopes for this restauraunt so he made the reservation and I guess a combination of his $600 dollar tab last time and the slow economy we were able to make reservations the night before. They even remembered him by name (probably from computer look up) which is very nice touch. So we show up to $12 parking which should be expected and we were seated immediately and given the choice of inside or outside. We surveyed both first- inside was very plain, candle lit, and moderate sized with a bar on hand. Outside was the size of a small sized backyard filled with tall trees and tropical plants, candle lit tables, plastic chairs?!? but still romantic. Maybe too romantic because we couldn't even read the menu's and we had to ask for flashlights (apparently everyone has the same problem because I noticed several tables with the specially made lights). When we ordered water to drink the waiter, Julio, asked if he wanted still or sparkling water. We wanted plain still and under his breathe he walks away saying ok bottled water. I don't mind getting bottled water just don't hustle me into buying $7 voss waters when everyone else is sipping regular ice water. Ok now for the important part the food: Pros: Great presentation-almost like a show, mashed potatoes, dessert Cons: service, value for the price, julio more

is it a club? or a restaurant? 8/14/2008

I have a degree in hospitality and also work in the industry, so unfortunately i'm spoiled when it comes to service. Not to say that im overly picky, but i know great service when i see it-Barton G. lacks this. I was very upset b/c i had read rave reviews about Barton G and his original/creative ideas and was looking forward to a phenomenal time, but it turned out to be mediocre to me mostly due to their service. I made reservations at 10pm two weeks prior (the first available time but i was so desperate to go, that i was willing to eat late). I showed up with my boyfriend and another couple at 9:45pm and this place was PACKED. It was filled with young girls dressed like sluts, and old rich men who looked like they left their wife and family back home just to chase the young (probably underaged) girls. There was dance music pumping loudly outside where the hostess was, i found myself screaming into her ear just to say "" I HAVE A RESERVATION"" and for her to tell me ""WAIT BY THE BAR AND I""LL FIND YOU"". I was a bit perplexed as to how the hostess would even remember my face in a club-like atmosphere, but i went ahead and did as was told. After waiting 30 minutes, and realizing that it was past my reservation time, i checked in with the hostess again. Only to be told that i would most likely have to wait an additional 45 minutes because they were too busy. I complained to her, what was the point of making a reservation only to wait an additional hour and a half to sit down?? I was very upset and decided to stand at the hostess table until she sat me down. Then a young couple walk in for their 10:45 reservation and the hostess seated them immediately. RIGHT IN FRONT OF MY FACE! When i saw this, i went ballistic! I demanded to speak with the manager and after speaking with him, a table magically appeard, how convenient. The food was ok, a bit over priced. But after my horrible experience with just getting a table, i spent the whole night bitter and upset. Wont be back. Pros: Entertaining Food presentations Cons: They need to decide if they're a club or a restaurant more

Amazing Service 8/10/2008

Amazing service, and food. Highly recommend on all my trips to miami, and reccomend the calamari appetizer. more

By far one of the worst places I have ever eaten. $250 later I left the restaurant with an upset stomach. Quit focusing on the presentation to hid the weakness of the food! more

Spend your money elsewhere. 4/14/2008

If the $12 valet parking fee doesn't make you turn around, you should. Barton G is just an average overpriced restaurant. $28 for an martini made with Absolute Vodka is rediculous, but not as rediculous as sitting outside in a plastic chair!. I went to Barton G with the full intent on loving everything about it...was I wrong!. The presentation is Fabulous, but DO NOT let that fool you. The food is nothing more than fair. There were not celebs there the night I went...for what we paid we could have flown to LA had better food anywhere and had much better people watching. Oh and by the way, if you didn't spend enough on food and parking, there is always the $40 cup of coffee with the certificate of authenticity. That $40 just for the coffee....no alcohol included and I'm sure there is not refill. If you're looking for a great place and a good meal....stay away from Barton G. Pros: Presention is fabulous Cons: $12 valet parking, $28 martinis made with Absolute vodka, plastic chairs more

Mediocre 3/22/2008

I had a good time at this restaurant, but I will never go there again. The taste of the food and quality of service were not even close to being on par with Barton G's very high price. Though I was having a good time, we were there for over three hours. The service was mediocre and slow. While the quality of service may have sufficed at TGI Fridays, I expect better at a restaurant like this. The presentation of the meals was great. I enjoyed seeing how my meal and dessert turned out, but it was really a one-time experience. The food was not great. It was edible and of high quality, but it just didn't taste spectacular. I have had better fish at Tarpoon Bend in Coral Gables for half the price. I also really enjoyed sitting outside ,and the atmosphere of the restaurant was great. While I enjoyed my experience, the below average taste of the food was disappointing. Pros: Ambience, Meal Presentation Cons: Food just didn't taste that great more

wish i lived in miami for this reason! 3/17/2008

3 friends and i went to south beach last year for a week on vacation during august. i decided to make reservations at Barton G because I had heard some about it (we live in NYC). we sat in the garden. i had the speared blackened shrimp which came on an actual spear with cauliflower mash and a honey corn popover. delish. among my friends were steak and ravioli which came in a beach setting. for dessert we had the sabrina sundae which was MASSIVE (and i can eat so trust me i'm not just saying massive) with brownies, chocolate, vanilla and strawberry ice cream, chocolate shavings, whipped cream and cherries. tremendous. Pros: funky delicious food, crazy desserts! Cons: fondue wasn't terrific more

Very Very Good 3/13/2008

Ambience and presentation here absolutely cannot be beat. For that alone it's worth a trip. The food is very good, but you are paying more for the presentation than for the food. Service is very good, though most of the staff are very young for such an upscale place and it shows. Overall though, I love Barton G and it is definitely a can't miss in Miami dining. Pros: Ambience, Presentation, Menu Variety Cons: Service is young, overpriced more

PRESENTATION 2/18/2008

Had a great time at Barton G, I can't think of another restaurant so full of fun surprises, starting with the chocolate Sabrina monkey hanging from the ""SabrinaTini"" to the swardfish served on an actual sword. Ambiance is always classy and fun with two zones, the more active indoors and the slower paced outdoors... something for any mood your in. Food is excellent with an ample menu, although pricey. Service was great, the wait staff is very friendly and will inform you if have ordered too much food, as some of the portions are rather large. Definately a great night out. Pros: Ambiance, Food, Great Presentation, Group Dining Cons: Price more

Rude and Obnoxious service 2/1/2008

Flew down to Miami with my wife for her birthday weekend. Showed up for our 9 PM restaurant ontime. When I spoke with the Host when we arrived he immediately told me I am not going to sit you for over 30 minutes. He said that even though I had a reservation that he didnt care. He also said that he wouldnt even guarantee that he would sit me in 30 minutes. I walked around the restaurant and saw over 6 empty tables which I then discussed with the Manager. He said that he could not accomodate me because those empty tables were accounted for. At this point after 15 minutes of negotiating with these incompetent people, we left the restaurant. Cons: Thumbs DOWN rude, arrogant, non accomodating service more

Great Desserts 10/10/2007

Went to SoBe with some friends for a girls getaway weekend and was recommended Barton G for the b-day celebration. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to others. While the food was good the desserts are over the top and has to be seen and tasted. The ambience is nice and our waitier was sweet and very knowledgable. Nice Job! Great place fo a special occassion. Pros: Ambience and great staff more

Elegant and Friendly 9/25/2007

I recently dined at the Barton G on a business trip. My company had made reservations. As usual, checked out the restaurant on Citysearch and I almost cancelled the reservation because they had a few bad reviews. I have to admit that I came in with a bit of an attitude expecting the worse. Well, we were greeted warmly, seated on time. We were offered cocktails in just minutes. After my Grey Goose martini, I could not even remember having a bad attitude. The whole evening went very well and the food was terrific. If you have been hesitating to try the Barton G, I say go for it. Pros: Ambience and Friendly more

Service good yet forget sparklers & hoopla & just get the food right. 9/8/2007

A once brilliant sun set lazily to the west while the cloud-stripped azure sky reflected an orange hue backdrop to the neon glow of deco-rises as we headed off to enjoy our must-do meal, rather ""dining event,"" at the widely acclaimed B/G. The build up was formidable: raves from biz associate, decent web write-ups (missed the awful ones), & a nice reservation process and day-of confirmation. Initial impressions being what they are, we were there on a weeknite ~7:30 & the first person to welcome us warmly & open the door was a casually dressed man with a noticeable pack of Marlboro's tucked in his Van Heusen-esque shirt pocket. Once inside at the inviting bar, we were deftly served a round of drinks & nicely treated as newcomers. Even the hostess made us feel at ease & unhurried. Yet following our graceful entrance into the center ring- our joy began to jade. First off was the table for two. Set wider between two diners than it should be, we struggled to see each other & wondered if we'd be still be in the same zip code by meal's end. Not to worry, the hostess kindly moved us to another even more inviting corner table. But beware, as we were to find, it lack a back to the bench (only) seat. Awkward & unsuitable for a comfortable evening, we asked for & got a 2nd chair & my partner was at least upright to eat. Then came the Chopped Salad (decent by most stnds). But a bone-in rib eye for 2 turned out to be tough, under-cooked (almost raw) vs our M/R request & upon complaint they quickly took it back & it came out perfect pink yet the meat was still sinewy and chewy- we couldn't stomach it, not @ $100. As consolation, they threw in a free $29 Chocolate Grand Canyon, which tasted store-bought and although we took the remains to go, we found the nearest park to give it a home for some needy soul. Interestingly they called the next day to follow-up. Listening intently, I genuinely believe they were sorry. Service good yet forget sparklers & hoopla & just get the food right. more
