Best

There is a reason these burgers are considered some of the best in the Boston area. The taste is superb and the variety of toppings offers something for everyone. The onion ring...

This place needs to get with the program and start accepting credit and debit cards. The prices for the burgers is entirely extravagant even though they are good. Our service was ...

It isn't like homemade; it's better 1/4/2003

Flat out great hamburgers of all permutations. And the lime rickies are terrific. Pros: Pure pleasure food, Harvard Square, The smells - wow Cons: no parking, no parking, no parking more

Reno's Ratings 12/22/2002

This is the icon of the greater Boston burger world. If you want the perfect Cambridge/Harvard burger experience, this is THE place. I truly love it and the food really is good. Pros: A+ food quality, solid service, fun ambiance Cons: not cheap, parking is a B.... more

get your ass down here! 12/15/2002

best burger joint you will ever find, regardless of how long you search Pros: best food you can buy, great atmosphere, freindly place Cons: can be expensive, can be crowded more

Maybe it's a regional thang... 12/12/2002

I don't get it...anyone up here ever tried the Fuddruckers chain? Down where I came from, the locals there rated 'em #1!!! (Miami)...now, maybe it's a matter of taste, or maybe they cook 'em different up here, but try 'em, I think you'll like 'em! Big, hot, delicious, juicy, thick, cooked to your liking 'melt in your mouth' burgers!!! Beef...it's what's for dinner...at Fudd's. more

Darn Good Burger 11/26/2002

Bartley's is not about romance, not about comfort, not about long leisurely meals - it's about getting a good hot filling meal just the way you like it right in the heart of Harvard Square. Great burgers, cooked the way you want it (I like mine RARE), and lots of other comfort food to choose from. It's an institution! Pros: Filling, Fast, Convenient Cons: Crowded, No Bathroom more

Don't know why... 11/8/2002

Burgers were overcooked, the dining area overcrowded, and diners over-enthusiastic...but it was fun experience nonetheless! more

Why on earth... 10/25/2002

...do people think that Bartley's is so good? It's not BAD, but it's certainly not worth all the excitement that surrounds it (and definitely not worth buying a T-shirt!). John Harvard's Brew House has much, much better burgers (and costs about the same for them) as does Chili's (which costs even less). Lee's Sandwich Shop on Church Street is by far the best in Boston Metro, though, and cheaper than anywhere else. I'd say skip Bartley's, though you might want to go at least once for the experience (or if you're in the Yard and are so hungry that you can't make it to ANYWHERE else without fainting). Pros: Close to the Yard Cons: Burgers are blah more

MeatballBurger 8/28/2002

The burgers here are nearly round, so it's amazing that they're able to overcook them while preserving a mealy texture throughout. The meat is pretty much flavorless, but I guess that's better than its being actively bad. At least they're expensive. The place is crowded and dirty and the service is surly. When we complained, our waitress said ""It's Harvard Square, what do you expect."" Exactly. If one must be in Cambridge, and must eat burgers, don't eat them here. As for me, I prefer not to. Cons: Surly Service, Crowded seating, Too expensive more

The Best Pizza Burger! 8/26/2002

I still remeber the first time going to Bartleys, I was about 10 and my brother took me. I could not believe how many different kinds of burgers they had and how good every single one of them sounded. So original and oh, so good. Their Pizza burger is amazing but try any one and you'll know that this is the BEST burger place around. Pros: Flavor, Options Cons: Crowded, Slow Service more

decor -1,food +10 8/25/2002

Many restaurants have tried to make a hamburger somthing it is not and should not be but Bartley's knows all the weaknesses of your basic burger and it's strengths and plays up the latter. Eating a Bartley's burger has restorative powers both for the taste buds and the psyche. For a burger experience this pure, I will glady give up decor. Pros: food, variety, incredible value Cons: too few seats, no decor more

I BELIEVE!!!! 8/21/2002

What can I say? I have been made a believer. I didn't think the burgers would be that great, but I was wrong. I had the ""Russell Crowe"" and it was amazing. I loved the excitement, and the service staff was both exciting and friendly. i will DEFINITELY go back. Seating was a bit cramped, but overall, VERY GOOD!! GO THERE! more

C- to a D+ 8/19/2002

The ambience here is great. However, the food is mediocre, and a little pricey. It was also, somewhat uninspiring. Although, I'd have to admit, the sweet potato french fries was a little creative. The burgers are fried, and not flame-broiled, like the best burgers should be. Pros: Cool ambience, Not too snobby, Many burgers on menu Cons: Not flame-broiled, Mediocre, Not the best burgers more

The best! 8/15/2002

Great burgers! Great frappes! Bartley's is the best. The sweet potato fries are good too. more

best burgers in boston 8/13/2002

Bartley's in Harvard Square is excellent burger dining - this one place converted me from a medium to a medium-rare type of guy. The onion rings are so good that they they almost taste sweet, and the lime rickeys are crisp and refreshing, even in the winter. I am 25 and have been a devoted burger-eating carnivore all my life. To give you perspective, my rankings of fast food burgers go Wendy's, BK, McDonalds - but that really is irrelevant, as Bartely's is burger-loving cuisine at it's finest. Pros: many burger choices, great supporting cast, decorations galore Cons: tables close together, no alcohol, driving there sucks more

It's sooooooooo good !! 8/8/2002

It is simply the best burger I ever had. The Bearnise burger is to die for. more

Empty your bladders before coming 7/30/2002

Good burgers, but I wouldn't say fantastic. No bathrooms here, so definately detracts from the dining experience. The wait staff aren't too friendly either. Cons: No Restrooms more

The wait is worth it! 7/30/2002

If you haven't been to Bartley's then you obviously aren't a burger fan! This is by far the best burger joint in town and the wacked out scenery is throw in for free! A great place to get a bite if you don't mind waiting a few minutes and aren't dressed up as it is a super casual place. It wouldn't be a complete visit if you didn't have a Lime Rickey to go with your 'low-cal' (not even close to being good for you) burger. Roll the sleeves up and get ready to dig in. You'll probably pay more for a burger here than you would at the four seasons, but its worth it. Pros: Lime Rickey, Fries, Ambience Cons: Crowded, Expensive for a burg more

It's more like the Burger Mansion!! 7/29/2002

Unbeleivable burgers. You haven't a burger 'til you have one fro m BBC. It is a fun place for lunch whether by yourself or with a group. Pros: inexpensive, no mad cow, fresh, fresh, fresh Cons: parking, parking, parking more

the best burgers in the buisness 7/24/2002

By far the best burgers I have ever eaten!!!! I tell everyone i know to go to Bartley's. The food, the atmosphere, the waitstaff all are part of the Bartley experience. Pros: Great food, funky atmosphere, knowledgable staff Cons: small, not closer to my hom more

Great Burgers, Lots of Negatives Though 7/20/2002

The burgers were great. No doubt about it. They seem to ignore how you want your burger done; they cook them a little crunchy on the outside. I find this delicious. There's a large number of toppings -- Blue cheese is blue chees, not dressing. The place is always jam-packed. I feel I spent higher than average on an excellent burger, but felt like I walked through a revolving door. The staff is frazzled, some of which rude and snippy... it's easy to understand; they have a PACKED, loud, twitchy place with no room between the tables and half the number of waitresses needed squeezing between the tables and guests. I say it shouldn't be missed, it's an experience, but who could afford to be a regular in finance or sanity? Pros: Great Burgers Cons: cramped and loud, Questionable value, rushed atmosphere more
