Barri's is a great place to get cheap, but yummy Italian food put into your stomach.
The lasagna is excellent, the hot sandwiches are above average, and the past is pretty good. However, Pizza is king at Barri's. Now, mind you, this is not a pizza joint. It is an Italian restaurant with Italian decor and even Italian owners. So when I mention that the Pizza is excellent don't think that there aren't other nice dishes. The lasagna is full of cheese and covered in the best marinara sauce EVER! The chicken parmesian is served with a large lightly crisped chicken breast and good noodles. Even their Philly cheesesteak is above average. The bread is often too flaky and gets everywhere, but as long as you put some Tabasco on it and order a side of that marinara sauce, you will not mind the mess. But the Pizza...
The Pizza is so good I capitalized the P and will give it it's own paragraph. The Pizza is thin crusted and has the texture of a good hot pita. On the pita type crust is placed some really tasty pizza sauce (made with sweet and zesty tomatoes and all those Italian spices everyone loves). Next, go ahead and add a layer of mozzarella cheese that tastes like it was just made. Those of you that have never tasted fresh and gooey mozzarella have no idea what I'm talking about. You can't get this taste from plastic bags of cheese bought at Kroger or Tom Thumb. After the cheese add a spicy layer of pepperonis (very fresh tasting too) and some green peppers or black olives or what have you. When that Pizza comes out you'll have an urge to walk outside and take a picture of the Roman Colosseum, but guess what? You're not in Italy, you fool, you're in Flower Mound, Texas! That's how good that freaking Pizza is! Wash it down with a beer or a coke and no matter how bad your day has been, all will be forgotten and/or forgiven.
As far as the drinks are concerned, if you've read my reviews you know I hate small glasses. No worries here! The glasses are just as large as those used at Angelina's. Kudos!
There are only two negatives. First, the wait staff is on and off. Sometimes they are excellent and other times they are nonexistent. If you get one of the "family" to serve you, expect your glasses to be full and your food to be hot when it comes out. They serve you well! If you get served by a local highs cool crap face, expect the kind of service implied by the term "crap face" for the most part. Either way, once you get the food (especially if you order the Pizza) you'll forget about everything.
The price is way cheaper than any national chain of Italian restaurants and the quality is just as good if not better. Go ahead and order desert and let me know how it goes!!!!!
