Best Fried Chicken and Coconut Cream Pie 1/29/2012

I've been going to Barbara's since she opened. The BEST fried chicken ever! Good country cooking. The coconut cream pie is unbelievable. The rolls are amazing. If you are lucky, there will be cinnamon rolls. Take them home and only share with people you really like. Its a simple country house and nothin fancy. Nice people, great food, fair prices and on a nice day you can eat outside in the fresh air. If it was possible, I would adopt Barbara as my Grandma so I could eat like this every day. Sometimes it is busy, but worth the wait. Let's face it, with food this good word is going to get out. Enough said....I've got a cinnamon roll to eat. more

Best Place EVER!! 3/4/2010

I do not live in Franklin but I make an effort to visit Barbaras any chance I get.. My 7 year old granddaughter loves the Chicken tenders and as for myself I have no favorites as I love everything. Barbara makes the very best 'peacan pir' in the world. You have to special order it but it is definately worth it! I always order ahead to have one to take home with me. All I can say is if you want some real southern home cooking Barbaras is the place to go! Pros: Great Food and Great Service Cons: might be a wait on Sundays,(but worth it!) more

Loved the food, people were nice (notice past tense) 10/9/2008

Well, I used to be a regular, as in ate there 3 times in a week. Used to take co-workers, family, and friends to enjoy some great southern food. Loved the chicken tenders. The second to last time I was there, I took my sister and family from out of town, and we all got the chicken. It was not fresh. I mean cold. Not a hint of warmth. So, I mentioned it to our server (who happens to be related to Barbara). She apologized and had some made so they would be fresh. They were amazing. The last time (that I will ever eat there), unfortunately, ordered the same thing. Chicken tenders. Mentioned that I'm sure they would be fresh but just wanted to make sure. No problem. Food came out, and the tenders were COLD. WOW! I was told that they could ""microwave"" them for me...huh? I mean I could eat a tv dinner for a lot less if I wanted MICROWAVED food. I politely asked them to just take them off the check and I would not eat them. The server proceeded to say, ""maybe I should just not order those here anymore""! WOW again. I was shocked, appalled, and quite speechless to say the least. I have not and will not be back... unfortunately! Pros: Good food sometimes Cons: Poor customer service, food not always fresh. more

local favorite 6/24/2008

Barbaras has been a local favorite for years. Most locals get it ""to go"" because we know that you don't go to Barbaras for the atmosphere. Barbara has never advertised except for word of mouth, she hasn't needed to. Hers is one of very few places that still makes everything from scratch and everyone feel like family. You will not find better fried chicken anywhere...even in Georgia! Pros: food, food, food, friendly people Cons: dining in more

good food, very relaxed atmosphere 6/20/2008

we had a decent experience, we've only been once. We probably wont go back until the weather cools down. The only seating we liked was outdoors-- the inside was very outdated and claustrophobic... very uncomfortable.. I personally do not like eating outdoors, but we did. I had a great meal, my husbands was okay-- too many onions in the meatloaf-- I had the chicken salad on a bed a spinach leaves with fresh fruit--\r the kids had mac and cheese. We also tried their mashed potatoes and cinnamon apples and berry cobbler all, which were wonderful!!! I've heard her friend chicken is great, but we haven't tried it yet.\r \r Some people around us were upset that the waiter wasn't more attentive, but he was nice to us, just real busy.\r It is a very relaxed atmosphere, but seemed to be well liked. As we sat there eating, the waiter acknowledged almost everyone that walked up by name. So this is obviously big with the locals.\r \r The menu you have to choose from is what she has decided on daily-- so you can count on a few menu items, but mostly it depends on the special of the day-- so be warned about that in advance, if you want something in particular, just call in advance to be sure they have it that day. Pros: food quality Cons: choices of food, atmosphere more

Best rolls in town 2/18/2008

Be careful not to fill up on the wonderful rolls, especially you time your arrival with a fresh batch coming out of the oven. All of the selections are well prepared, and the banana pudding is outstanding. Pros: food selections are great, especially chicken salad, the rolls and banana pudding Cons: Can be crowded at times, particularly in the early evenings. more

Great little down home cooking spot 8/25/2006

Absolutely wonderful little funky southern restaurant tucked away in Franklin. The best mashed potatoes I have ever had and wonderful crab cakes. Worth checking out if you are down that way. Pros: Great food, friendly service Cons: none! more

I take all out-of-towners here! 6/17/2006

This is by far my favorite place to eat. I take everyone to Barbara's! It's such a great atmosphere, almost like being at your grandmother's to eat. If you want honey or ketchup, or some other condiment, feel free to just walk over and get it. The bbq pork is absolutely fantastic (it's on fridays, I think). Be sure to ask for some fresh bread and drizzle it with honey. Mmmmm... tasty.\r \r And there's always a chance you'll see a few famous faces here. It's a local hotspot, and it seems like all the industry insiders know about Barbara's! Pros: Warm atmosphere, comfortable dining area, friendly servers. more
