Best

We recently had our rehearsal dinner at Bamboo Grove and were extremely happy with everything. ?They let us reserve their back room ""Tiki Room"" and didn't ask for a down payment...

Worst

This is the best teriyaki I have ever tasted. The portions were big, go with the smaller size unless you are really hungry or wanting to share. The macaroni salad was really good.

Great Rehearsal Dinner Space 9/22/2010

We recently had our rehearsal dinner at Bamboo Grove and were extremely happy with everything. ?They let us reserve their back room ""Tiki Room"" and didn't ask for a down payment or anything, though we were more then willing to. ?\r \r We chose to do it buffet style so everyone could try different things. ?Our server was Heather and she was fantastic. ?Our families can be a bit chaotic and she was able to get us everything we needed and quickly. ?They continued to bring out more food as people ate through what was out and even brought to-go boxes out when we were wrapping up so all of our guests could bring some home. ?And trust me, there was more then enough for everyone to take home lunch for the next day. ?\r \r The back room decorations are fun and it is great for kids. ?I highly recommend having parties (30 or less) here. ?Space, food and price are great! more

shhhh! Keep it a secret! 4/17/2009

Could you imagine if everybody knew of this place. You would never be able to get a seat. Hand's down, best Hawaiian food in Portland. Sorry Noho's, but they even improved from when they were with you. Easily one of the best Lunch places to bring a friend from out of town or a friend that is unfamiliar with Bamboo Grove. All I hear from my friends from out of town is how they want to visit Bamboo Grove as soon as they come back up. Bravo and well done!\r \r \r Pros: The best Hawaiian food in Portland Cons: If more people start showing up! May cause obesity! more

Aloha alive and well at Bamboo Grove 4/11/2009

I'll never forget my first trip to Bamboo Grove. I was living in Salem in 2004 and missing some authentic Hawaiian grinds. A co-worker mentioned it to me so the wife and I took a trip. We were seated immediately and put at a table close to a Hawaiian man with a twinkle in his eye and an ukulele in his lap. His name is Francis and what a talented guy, full to the brim with Aloha and a tremendous singing voice. We already felt 'it' after being there for only a few minutes. Those of you that have felt 'it' know exactly what I mean and those haven't....I can only hope for you that it happens soon because it is the best feeling in the world, the feeling of Aloha. I requested a Brothers Cazimero song as my Loco Moco arrived as well as the wife's Ahi sashimi. The song was great and our meals unbelieveble. We both almost teared up as we sat in this beautiful atmosphere and realized that we had found a connection to our 'home' that we miss so dearly. I think we stayed for 3 hours that night, listeneing to the music, loosening our belts (mine at least) and talking story with one of the owners that came over to introduce himself.\r Needless to say, we have been frequent guests to the restaurant even though we have an hour drive to get there. It is well worth it. We have brought friends and co-workers there and everyone just immediately falls in love with it and it's not uncommon to see them there on the nights we are lucky enough to roll in.\r So if Hawaii is your home, or if you have only visited once or if you havent but still love great food and atmosphere - Bamboo Grove is the door to walk into. \r \r Bamboo Grove No Ka Oi !! (the best)\r \r Aloha! Pros: Great food, great music, great staff Cons: I eat way too much there ! more

Love on a Plate! 3/13/2009

This place has great food and great service! I was a regular for four years and the food and drink were always tasty. The portions are generous, enough for a meal and a box to go. I moved t the East Coast a couple of years ago and haven't been able to find anything comprable, every time I'm back in town I make it a point to stop in for a bite. Pros: Great food and great service!, fun music on Fridays Cons: I always hate my pants when I'm finished eating... more

just ok 3/11/2009

I was there today for luch very busy place around 12 or so, me and the wife had portuguese sausage and eggs she had the ahi burger, well we waited for awhile which we wondered why since we were the first to order before it got busy, then when our food arrived the eggs where on the over hard side when I ordered over medium, the portugese sausage tasted like liguisa people will say that is the same but if you are from Hawai you know that it is a mediocre substitue for it, my wife's ahi burger was drenched in some sauce that made her bottom burger bun like mush had to ask for it to be changed, and what no ketchup come on, need catch up for my linguisa bra, the mac salad neva even seem cold seemed room tempeture yikes!! all in all i WOULD GO BACK, just because I like the enviroment, reminds me of the bar's in kOna Pros: friendly staff Cons: food was just ok more

Portland's BEST Hawaiian food 3/11/2009

Bamboo Grove is one of the very best restaurants in Portland. Their food is authentic and delicious, and the atmosphere can't be beat. The staff is friendly and attentive. Very family friendly also. Some favorite dishes there: Aunties Shoyu chicken, Kalua pig, and of course Spam Musubi. And the Macaroni salad is DA BOMB. It just doesn't get any better than this! All for a great price and fantastic service. Check it out! Aloha! more

Delicious Food & Friendly Staff 3/11/2009

Bamboo Grove offers delicious Hawaiian food at great prices. The staff is so hospitable, you feel like you've been invited over to a friends house. Good drinks too. Love this place! Pros: Friendly staff, Great food more

MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!! 3/10/2009

The peeps are the Grove know how to take care of you. I had my wife's 40's BDay catered for about 40 people. I had no idea how much to order and left it to the caterer's (David?) plan. Short Ribs, Spicy Chix, Kaula pork, Soju Chix, spring rolls, Noodles (my fav) and much more (don't forget the Mac). The price was incredibly reasonable given the amount of food. \r \r We've been my on a weekend nite or two and have enjoyed the great selection of beers on tap and authentic music. I knew I could trust them for a momentous occasion like my wife's Bday. \r \r Spread the word!! Pros: Amount of food for price, Tastey Cons: Not near my house!!!! more

Gotto Love the Aloha 3/10/2009

The wait staff is always friendly and food portions are very island style (huge). The everyday menu is always great and there Kalua Pig and other weekly specials are delicious. They have music on Saturday in the back room which is when we try and go which makes the experience all that more Island style. Great mixed drinks as well. Pros: Food is great and consistent more

Not good 12/23/2008

I was born and raised in Honolulu, and I know what good Hawaiian food should taste like. This is definately not it. I have lived in Portland for 12 years and have given Bamboo Grove a try several times, hoping that the taste and quality would improve. Not a chance. The food is the same as it was when I first tried it a few years ago. Hamburger steak is my thing, and Bamboo Grove's version has bland, tough meat and wierd gravy that is way too sweet. The kahlua pork is way too fatty, the ribs are stringy, tough, and have barely any meat, the chicken dishes are mediocre at best. The noodles are just plain awful. My company has catered meals from this place twice, and I have tried very hard to persuade them otherwise both times. I just cannot stand the food here. With places that care about the quality of their food, like Aloha Grill in Tualatin and Ohana's on Sandy, I have no need to order takeout from Bamboo Grove ever again. more

Favorite!! 11/16/2008

Really, really good food supplemented with great live music and courteous staff. The drinks are well made and the pork is to die for. The prices are reasonable for the large portions you receive. I recomend them to everyone! A hidden treasure in John's landing. more

Best Teriyaki around 11/4/2008

This is the best teriyaki I have ever tasted. The portions were big, go with the smaller size unless you are really hungry or wanting to share. The macaroni salad was really good. more

What happened?! 6/28/2008

My wife and I used to frequent Bamboo Grove (and prior to that Noho's) at least once a month. We went for lunch today for the first time with our 3-year-old expecting to reaquaint ourselves with a favorite. We arrived right as they were opening and were greeted by a very pleasant waitress who was great. From the activity in the kitchen in appeared that the cooks were busy prepping for a large catering job and the smells of grilled chicking entering the dining room were awsome. After ordering our past favorites (korean chicken and teriyaki chicken) we waited for a bit for lunch. Once our order finally arrived, the waitress apologized for the wait and we dug in. I was disappointed from the very first bite as the chicken was rubbery to the point that it was tough to chew. I would say that it was overcooked, but that would be an understatement, and it almost appeared that it was precooked (maybe even the night before) and then reheated with the sauce and onions, ending up with bite size pieces of white meat that were impossible to down without the aid of plenty of water and extra teriyaki. My wife complained of the same thing, and when I tried a bite of her korean chicken, the sauce tasted the same as my teriyaki. I hoped that the macaroni salad (all-time best!) would in some part redeem the meal, but even that recipe had changed and it was a let down. From the start it seemed that the importance was placed on preparing for the catering job rather than the customers in the restaurant.\r The only redeeming things about this experiance (thus the 2 stars) were that my daughter loved the Shoyu Franks and rice, and that the waitress was very nice and attentive, so much so that I didn't want to complain to her about the meal. I can only hope that things will turn around, but doubt that we will be back anytime soon to see.\r Pros: Friendly service, My daughter loved the hot dog and rice! Cons: The grownup food more

yummy plates, chill atmosphere 6/7/2008

I enjoy Bamboo Grove every few months and the food is always grubbing. I love Aunty Shoyu's Chicken. The service and atmosphere fit like a glove, never uptight. Check out the drink menu... a nice mix of tropical cocktails. Live music often, (Thursday thru Saturday I think.) Lunch time gets busy but they open the patio when the weather's nice. A taste of Aloha in the sometimes gloomy PNW! Pros: outdoor seating, cocktails, live music Cons: ? more

Disappointed 5/26/2008

Went there about 3 weeks ago for the first time and the food was delicious, large servings, and great service. We were hoping for the same the other night but was sadly disappointed. The table was dirty when we were seated, the serving size was very small compared to the previous trip and the food was not hot. We were half way through eating our meal before the drinks arrived. And to top it off the waitress would not come back to take our money so we left it on the table and she had the gall to come after us in the pouring rain stating we had not paid enough. Well, maybe she should use a calculator because after having to go back in she discovered she was wrong and there was actually a 15% tip that was undeserving. We really loved the place after our first visit but this last time left us not wanting to go back again for fear of another unpleasant experience. Pros: tasty food Cons: poor service; inconsistency more
