Bama Theatre 1/8/2007

I have always been impressed with Bama Theatre. They show all kinds of movies, have all kinds of presentations and shows such as pageants, but they are mostly known for their theatre department. Tuscaloosa Theatre puts on a lot of presentations here, and I always get season tickets. We love going there because we feel we get our money's worth no matter what it is. I especially like the interior. It's wonderful, and I think more people go to the Bama Theatre if it were more advertised. I do recommend Bama Theatre for anyone. A+ more

Bama Theatre 4/7/2006

I love going to the Bama Theatre. You never really know what will be going on there, from the Miss Tuscaloosa Pageant to all kinds of productions put on by a number of groups, most notably the Bama Theater group. I love the new renovations they did a while back. I called them new because they still look new. I am so impressed with this theater. The acoustics are wonderful. I recommend this place at four stars. I love it, and I think you will as well. more

Bama Theatre 3/24/2006

I want to start out with a little history. I am thoroughly impressed with this building. In 1938, the Bama Theatre served as the community's grand movie house, as well as the only air-conditioned building at that time. The theatre was one of the last movie palaces built in the South. The building was an odd but interesting mixture of Art Deco style popular during the period and the lavish so-call "atmospheric" style of theatre architecture popular in the 1920s the interior is decorated in the Moorish style of Renaissance Spain. The house of the theatre is actually a reproduction of the courtyard of the Davanzati Palace of Florence, Italy. The entire orchestra and balcony sections are decorated as a Spanish courtyard, complete with balconies and ironwork. Twinkling stars and clouds on the night sky ceiling complete the open-air feel of the performance hall. The Theatre was converted to a performing arts center in 1976 and has been completely renovated for live theatrical use. In the Summer of 1999, yet another dimension of entertainment was added, as the Bama once again began showing films. The classics as well as more recent movies are shown in the Silver Screen Series, making the Bama Theatre downtown Tuscaloosa's visual and performing arts center. Now, to add to that: Sometimes they show movies here. Sometimes they have pageants. Sometimes they are having a presentation of some sort and sometimes they have live music from orchestras to bluegrass. I will always adore this place because of the theatrical performances by their theatre department, Tuscaloosa Theatre. I remember the first play I saw here was Wizard of Oz as a child. For a place that isn't very cultured, the Deep South, this is Tuscaloosa's piece of culture. more

Lovely Old Town Theatre! 8/12/2005

I have been going to Bama Theatre since I was a child to see plays and performances. I really love the light up stars and sky painted on the roof, the balcony, and the wall decorations that make it feel like you are in a moon lit courtyard. Recently the theatre has been showing movies during the summer and they have all kinds of special events here like school beauty pageants, etc. If you are tired of those big budget Hollywood bombs in the huge theaters, call up Bama and see what's showing. They usually have Sunday and matinée shows for the working folks. Located in downtown Tuscaloosa. more

Historic and Fun 8/9/2005

This theatre is awesome. It's interior decorations and layout are cool and very beautiful. It has plenty of plays put on by people of all ages and it also has recitals and pagents. The theatre has an art gallery inside it also. During the school year every elementary school child frequents the theatre to see different shows put on by childrens acting clubs. Middle school and high school groups also visit the theatre. Some weekends they will show old black and white movies also. more
