I had the opportunity to play the Spicewood course with three buddies of mine. We golf regularly at the various public courses around Austin, and Spicewood matches up very well. The course offers many challenges for the experienced player: big, looming hills, doglegs, and brush. Few bunkers and soft greens round out the short game. Hitting the fairways off the tee really counts here more than distance does. Less experienced players should be aware that many holes have houses to the left and right of the fairways. The scenery is great, we saw an 8 point buck foraging in the woods just a few yards from the green. Pace of play was average, fast enough that we let a few twosomes play through. Also, the service is great! You can't beat the delicious $5 Turkey Sandwich w/chips combo!
Overall, it was a great experience. Hopefully we'll be back very soon!
