If you want to go somewhere for something different and have a few drinks,....this is the place. First the waitress was very nice and very attentive. I had not been there in years! The place has not changed at all. It was 3 of us and we had 1 bahooka bowl and there was plenty left. The place has so many things going on around you but very clean. I,.... like the others have to agree that the food isn't the greatest. I mainley went for apitizers and drinks and I had a good time. Great place to take someone for the first time or w/ a big group. Pros: good drinks, great ambience, easy parking more

BEST TROPICAL MIXED DRINKS OUTSIDE OF HAWAII 6/2/2007

iwantthebest Provided by Partner
Open since 1967, the Bahooka Ribs & Grog is known as the ?working man?s Trader Vic?s restaurant? offering seafood, steaks, ribs, and the BEST reasonably-priced, most prolific menu of TROPICAL mixed drinks found outside the state of Hawaii: the Blue Hawaii, the Pina Colada, the Hurricane, the Zombie, and many others are all here. Some of them are flaming drinks and some arrive with the traditional paper umbrellas, fresh pineapple spear, and maraschino cherries. But be forewarned: Their alcoholic drinks are STRONG. The restaurant?s ambience has a dark, ?Gilligan?s Island,? shipwreck-decor. You may need to bring a discreet mini-flashlight to read the menu. There are 105 illuminated aquariums filled with fish?as pets?to admire and occasionally, you can hear The Beach Boys? music in the background. Some reviewers have criticized the food. Compared to fine steak and seafood restaurants, they're right. However, the food at the Bahooka IS generally good and above average, with some entrees made better than others. Highly recommended are their Dinner Menu entrees such as the Ham Steak with Pineapple Ring; the New York Steak Dinner; and the ?Exotic Ribs? Dinner (pork spareribs). The ham is thick and juicy, the NY steak is lean and flavorful, and the spareribs are lean, very meaty, and basted with a tasty BBQ sauce. Seafood selections here are limited, but the ?Catch of the Day? fish specials are seldom a disappointment. Their ?House Salad? is served ice cold with a tasty Thousand Islands salad dressing. Dinner rolls are warm, soft and flavorful. And their side dish of ?Steak Fries? is some of the best I?ve ever tasted?fresh, hot, crispy, and not overdone. VERY generous food portions, too. I love this place for its unique ambience, good food, great tropical drinks, and the friendly service. Unfortunately for me, this is the LAST Bahooka Ribs & Grog location?there used to be more of them scattered throughout the San Gabriel Valley during the 1970s. more

Went there for the 1st time recently in a large group for my boyfriend's cousin's bday. They hadn't been there since they were kids. They didn't remember how the food tasted but always remembered how fun and unique the inside looked with it's various aquariums and undersea decor. The food was a disappointment to all of us. All the dressings there were sweet! There was no choice of salad dressing, only their house dressing which was sweet. One of us ordered a sampler platter and couldn't find a single sauce that was good for dipping...so she saved the food to take home where she had normal tasting condiments to eat it with. The marinara sauce, mustard sauce, tartar sauce and cocktail sauce were all sweet. My boyfriend and I ordered the steak and shrimp with veggies and the steak and veggies were pretty good aside from the fact there there was nothing good to dip the fried shrimp into so I didn't eat them. The inside is good to entertain young children but none of us liked the food. For the same price, there are lots of VERY good restaurants that we all wished we went to instead. The service was pretty good but the sauces all need to go. more

Great drinks but the food needs a facelift. 11/19/2006

This place has been here for a long time and has always had very good drinks. I like to go here and get myself a Bahooka Bowl from time to time, which is like a double sized bowl of a drink. They say it serves two, but they are wrong! The whole restaurant is decorated with a bunch of fishtanks and the dim lighting and somewhat private tables make this a good spot to take a date. Then you get to the food. Blah. Their food is a big letdown in my opinion. Even the appetizers are really not done well. Steaks and ribs are not as good as any novice could cook at home. The atmosphere and the drinks at Bahookas can pull the place into an Average rating, but if I was just giving it a grade on the food alone I would have to say Not Recommended. Pros: Interesting atmosphere. Kinda private tables. Great drinks. Cons: Food is below average. more

I love Bahooka. Partly because it's just fun to say bahooka party because they use the word GROG in their title but mostly becuase it is so damn weird. I read about it in LA Bizzaro (an excellent book for newbies and oldies alike) and just had to go. BRG does NOT disappoint. There have got to be 150 fishtaks in there. Bunches surrounding every table. You really feel like you are underwater. The best tank has a gigundo fish in it who eats carrots. I kid you not. They have drinks the size of koi ponds that they'll light on fire for you which is good coz it's really dark in there. The food is only okay, but honestly-- with an atmosphere like this-- who cares? more

If youlike romatic spots Bahooka would be the place to go. If you want good food go else where. Food was just average in quality, not really impressed the selection on the menu. I would dedfinitely go else where for good eating. more

This place should be a landmark. The food is good-I've had lobster, crab puffs, various fish & chicken-but I don't recommend it for the food as much as the atmosphere. There are fish tanks everywhere, dim lights, boats, and all sorts of sea and tiki themed objects hanging from the ceiling. Most dishes are priced like a coffee shop. Party facilities available. Plenty of parking. PROS: Order a Flaming drink, history was never this much fun CONS: Longish drive, eating fish with fish looking at you more
