Great barn for kids starting out...or advanced competitors 1/23/2011

My daughter started her riding career here at 6 years old...now 14, she qualified for state and regional finals this year. At Back Bay, she has developed a life-long love of riding and strong equestrian skills...in addition to some great life lessons on responsibility, discipline and teamwork. At Back Bay, orses are extremely well cared for, and the barn keeps a strong bench of school horses for every level. The barn has a nice mix of students, from 7-10 year olds just starting out...to adults--from beginners to accomplished. We started with the Summer Program...it was a great way to begin! more

Back Bay Farm - Better Experience 1/1/2011

Back Bay Farm offers a lot to any rider, whether just starting out as a child or an adult. There is a very good mix of people involved in the program, very friendly and supportive. I really noticed that everyone is willing to help everyone else! As an adult re-rider, I found the organized schedule and tack room far above the many barns I had tried prior. Yes, showing is a big part of the barn activities but there are many who just come to ride and enjoy spending time caring for the horses. I appreciated the opportunities to partial lease or go to a few local shows if I wanted to. The facility is very neat, clean with a very nice indoor and outdoor ring with a variety of jumps. Certainly, the beach rides are a blast! more

Best on the North Shore 12/30/2010

Back Bay Farm is a wonderful place for anyone to learn how to ride. Back Bay offers lessons for all levels on safe, and the key word here is safe school horses. Back Bay's school horse are competetive in the show ring as well as safe to trail ride and take to Cranes Beach. Back Bay Farm offers it all. Whatever your pleasure. If you want to be serious and horseshow it is available to you. If you just want to come and take a lessons, trail ride, or go on a beach ride that is also available. I have to strongly disagree with the editorial about our farm. Back Bay is a very welcoming, professional establishment. My children and I have been with Back Bay Farm for the past ten years. It has been and is a wonderful experience. Not being a horse owner hasn't limited us, Back Bay has given us unbelievable opportunities whether it be in the show ring or on the beach. Back Bay Farm is a caring, friendly , warm environment, one in which you want your children to be involved. more

Back Bay Farm is a wonderful barn. 12/21/2010

Back Bay Farm is a wonderful barn located in Ipswich Massachusetts. They have a modern barn with both indoor and outdoor rings. The school is great for riders of all levels and the barn actively participates local and regional horse shows. This is a superb place for children to learn how to ride and take care of horses. You do not need to own a horse to take lessons at the barn and they have a good mix of school horses for all sizes and ability levels. One of the best parts of the riding at the barn is beach rides on Cranes Beach in the fall and winter months. We found the barn to be very well organized and clean. They have a heated tack room which is nice in the winter months. The barn is located in a wooded area of Ipswich with unimpeded access to trails that run right alongside the property. more

Back Bay Farm is a great place to learn how to ride a horse 12/21/2010

Back Bay Farm is a great place to learn how to horseback ride. Robin runs a wonderful school program and she really knows her stuff. The barn is clean and tidy and Peter takes great care of the whole property. Back Bay Farm has a large indoor and outdoor ring so you can ride in any weather conditions. The stalls really clean compared to most barns. They are cleaned in the mornings and picked in the afternoons. They add new shavings daily. It is nice because all of the stalls have rubber mats on the floors and it really helps the horses feet with thrush issues. Overall Robin and her staff take great care of the horses and you get the feeling that she is a true horse lover. Back Bay Farm makes me feel very comfortable in the quality of teaching and the facilities. more

INTENSE, tad too serious, quality average 11/4/2009

We tried Back Bay Farm for a few years. We left because it missed the point about love and care for the horse. Sure we like to win, yahoo. But the instructors and management were too uptight. Even adults like to ENJOY their hobby - oh yes, that we pay the big bucks for. Back Bay is not a cheap facility and wants to strive to be up THERE top dollar facility. More fun could be added to their programs. Pros: Good quality instructors at times Cons: but lots of turnover more

Excellent Equestrians, Hard Atmosphere 9/30/2007

Back Bay is a beautiful stable with a excellent ""horse people."" Unfortunately, we (and others) found the instruction somewhat impersonal. For the newer and younger riders, we felt the child needs to be able to take ""direct feedback"" (which is not an issue with older students) vs. a more nurturing environment.\r \r For a strong rider who really wants to excel, this is most likely a good match. Pros: Excellent Technical Instructors, Grounds Cons: Difficult amount of feedback for early riders. needs a little more ""fun"" more

The Best 9/13/2005

Back Bay Farm is not, as the description says, purely for the elite. It is a highly professional teaching facility that does wonders for riders of all ages and abilities. We have been extremely satisfied with the progress our child has made there. We found Back Bay Farm after investigating several other area riding facilities, and feel that they have no equal in this region. Pros: Professional, Organized, Welcoming more
