There are things that I love about Babe's, and things that I don't. The fried and smoked chicken, both just fab, and I don't mean maybe. Love the family style serving in shared serve yourself bowls, and the potatoes and gravy are great. I also like the creamed corn, although it does have that canned tase. The chicken fried steak is okay, not terrific, but the roast beef looks so bad I won't try it. Haven't tried the tenders, but they look pretty good, too. The green beans are just okay, the salad dressing is, uh, unusual, but I like it. But, the biscuits have no flavor whatsoever and in my opinion are worthless carbs. The desserts are great (best pineapple upside down cake I've ever had, and the coconut cream pie is to die for). For the price, it's hard to beat Babe's -- $10 for a ton of good, Southern bad for you food. What I don't like is the hokey service, where the really young servers try to be down home and josh it up with you. There's something about that too familiar thing coming from a kid that irks me. Also, the song and dance routines that they engage in are just dumb. The seating can get crowded (make sure you go at off times, or you'll be sorry), but if you can manage a place on the side it's much more comfortable. All in all, it's good food and a great value.
Pros: Mostly terrific home cooking Southern food
Cons: Despise the ""all too familiar with you"" service from really young servers and the dance routines
