Even the Ladies' Room is Clean! 2/16/2010

I came to B&B at 6pm on a Wednesday evening, after retrieving my car from another place down the road, with a broken exhaust pipe that wasn't broken when I dropped it off (at the other place). I was tired, mad and ready to kill someone. I had a trip planned, and now I had a busted exhaust system the day before my trip. Earl calmly started looking for the schematic and asked me to show him where the break was. When I did, he told me to bring it back in the morning, and they would see what they could do. He worked up two options--replace the whole shebang ($$$) and patch it for the time being. He also told me they would have to check the engine mounts, three of which turned out to be cracked. They spent ALL DAY on the phone, finding me those engine mounts (the car is 12 years old). I waited for a couple of hours that morning for a ride, and got to see them operate. They treated each customer with respect and dignity, and knocked themselves out trying to find parts and help people. When I asked to use the bathroom, they not only had a separate Ladies' room, it was clean, and they had PREMIUM TOILET PAPER in it!!! In other words, they care about the details. When I got the car back, they warned me about two tires (rotated by the tire guys down the road the day before) that needed to be replaced due to separating tread. I recommend B&B without reservations--which you should make, since they stay pretty busy. First time customer - and Last time customer. 2/10/2010

I brought my car in because it was having trouble starting and I had had to get a few jumps in the last few days. I knew it was a problem with the alternator or the battery. They said it would be $45 to take a look at it + parts and labor afterwards - fair enough. When they called me back though they told me it would cost an additional$260 to replace the battery and the terminal ends to the battery, for a whopping total of $305. (Terminal ends only cost about $4). I thanked him for looking at it and told him I was going elsewhere. When the guy at the counter saw I was leaving without doing business there he said he would 'Give me a discount of $30 cause I'm a first time customer." I told him no thanks and left. I went to a competitor also in South Austin and they did the whole job for $75 - new battery, installation, and corrosion cleaning of the terminal ends which they said just needed to be cleaned up. I've had my truck serviced exclusively by B & B for the last two and a half years and I won't take it anywhere else. The service is great. They're professional and well organized. I especially appreciate the individual attention I receive. They keep me apprised of my car's health, including future maintenance recommendations, but I never feel pressured or scared into any services. I give them my highest recommendation. I finally found a shop that didn't try to gouge me on the price. I went to have my muffler replaced and they actually told me they didn't think it needed to be done. They still quoted me a price, which was 1/4 of what my other mechanic had quoted. I'll definitely be going back to them! That and the free loaner car and life is good. B&B is a very knowledgeable and dependable Auto Care Center. They know there business and there customers. I wanted to thank Juan Rivera, who is an excellent technician, for repairing my breaks on my Toyota Tacoma. He diagnosed my problems and brought them to my attention in detail. Also Rick Richuber in Customer Service was very helpful in advising me on my repairs and took care of me while I waited. I'd driven around for a few days with no brakes practically and just happened upon B&B. I'd noticed the location for years, but it was always so busy and I was concerned about the time it would take to get my car repaired, so I never stopped in. I was so wrong. I took the chance and stopped in they diagnosed my problem with my brakes and had it repaired in no time at all. My charges were very reasonable, but most of all the customer service and repairs were excellent. I'll stay away from the "specialized repair shops" becuase i've always had bad luck and stick with B&B. They've been around for years and with good reason. I will definitley be back and recommend B&B to my friends. Pros: Knowledge of the Industry more

My car was overheating and a quick lookover reveled a loose belt which was tightened without charge and without the need of a expensive diagnostic charge. I love B&B. my service from the older gentleman at the counter was so great! We discussed what the issue was, he gave me an estimate, and I was on my way. Before I left i noticed I needed an inspection so I went back in and they wrote me up for it. A younger man got right to it very quick, and came back in to let me know I also needed an oil change, so I got that done as well. I was kept involved while they were working on my car. When i went to check out, there were many recom. on the slip. and they were exactly what i had discussed earlier so I knew they werent ripping me off! my service was great and my car does run like a jewel now. Im 88 years old so I cant afford to be taken advantage of, and I have no worry that I will ever be when I go there. Thank you B&B! I went in to B&B a couple weeks ago bc I needed an inspection on my car. The Young man who helped me out was just wonderful. He was the first to say Hello to me when i got inside and when he was finished with the inspection, he called me to let me know that I was due for an oil change. I was a little hesitant, being a single mother, not wanting to get taken advantage of, but i went ahead and agreed. When I went into the shop the next day to pick it up, there were many notes on the receipt and reccomendations on things I should get fixed on the car. This was my first time at B&B so just to make sure they werent trying to rip me off, (no offence) i got a 2nd opinion and they were all correct! So i'll def be going back to B&B for all of my repairs! Pros: location, friendly service, And great work! Cons: cons? there are no cons! more

Crooks is right. Went in for a 20k service on my Jetta. They charged me $90 to inspect the car just to tell me how much the service would cost. They then told me the service would be $450. Beyond the inspection, this service is simply an oil change and changing the cabin air filter. The dealer only charges $330. Can you image. $120 more than the dealer. I told them forget it I would pay their $90 and take my business elsewhere. In their inspection document they said the brakes seemed soft and I might have caliber problems. Never had a problem. As I drove down the road there was a terrible cluncking. I took it back to find out they bent the dust shield around the caliber. PS: I took the Jetta to Jiffy lube and got both filters changed and synthetic oil for $100. Moral to the story, read your maintenance schedule and have the services done individually. Much cheaper. Also, go to B & B if you have more money than brains and you want your car to have more problems when you are done then when you went in. Pros: They didn't charge me the second time to fix what they broke Cons: Robbed more

I would have given a 5 star review on this shop because it has been good over the years. I did have to go with 4 stars because of my last visit. I had some issues with my brakes and ended up taken it back 3 times. I told them what the issue was and they ended up "fixing" the wrong issue. After speaking with the owner, I got everything worked out and felt pretty good about it. No one is perfect and I understand that. The way they handled it, very good. We are new to Austin and pulled into B&B to have a muffler replaced because B&B was recommended by several different service shops. Not only did B&B do a great job on the muffler but explained exactly what the steps were to have a new to Texas car inspected and registered. I can safely say they saved us numerous hours at the title office. I am very happy to find a dependable and HONEST service facility in a new area. Pros: Make you feel like a real friend... I have taken all my vehicles to B&B for several years. I have never had a problem with any service at this garage. They can work on new cars or old classics. They can take care of almost any problem on your vehicle or tell you where to take your car if it is something they don't work on. I know people are apprehensive about taking their car to an unknown garage, but you can be assured that this is one of the best and honest shops in Austin. After a nightmare auto shop experience, visiting B&B to get my truck up to inspections standards was a truly wonderful car repair experience. Thank goodness I found B&B through the betterbusiness bureau, where B&B is A+ rated with only 1 complaint in the last 3 years! I had a fabulous experience. They did all the work I needed faster, cheaper and in better quality than anyone else I visited about the problems I had with my truck. The people at B & B Muffler not only do a great job with your auto repairs - they also provide excellent customer service. In an effort to save me money, B & B ordered a used part that ended up making the whole job cost less than half of the original estimate. I was referred by someone I know which should count for something as well. I went in for an AC check late in the day, almost 4 o'clock. They sped it through and even offered to give me a lift if I needed it which was nice.\r \r I ended up spending more than I had counted on based on the mechanics appraisal that this was preventative maintenance but put my woes to rest when he explained the worst case scenarios if I didn't. This is south Texas so I wasn't keen on gambling with my A.C, ultimately I paid about $450 when I hoped for a $250 bill but that also came within a YEAR to verify no coolant leaked \r they would waive the $90 dollar die check. So... I guess I feel like the service is good, and definitely a better experience than I've had with another garage on South Lamar. more

I went to B & B after my regular mechanic "lost" my catalytic converter. B & B replaced, gave me a new muffler and a state inspection (they called me to let me know it was out of date). They were so nice and honest. I didn't think mechanics like them still existed. more

These guys are great! I was driving down Lamar late on a Friday afternoon when my truck started overheating. Since it was going to take a while to get to it, they offered to give me a ride home and call me when they had some info (I chose to wait for some friends across the street at Alligator Grill...it was Happy Hour time after all). They called with updates both on the cost and estimated time it would be ready and were great about explaining everything. When it was ready, on Saturday afternoon, they picked me up at my house and even strapped the baby seat in for me. We've now taken both our cars there and they are always professional, on time, reasonably priced, and, most importantly, honest about what exactly you need (and don't try to convince you to get unnecessary extras). And...if you need spendy car repairs, you can always drown your sorrows at Alligator Grill while you wait. more
