The amusement park of brewpubs for tourists 3/18/2007

I frequented Sunset back in the 90s. Less people, great staff, more locals and best selection and quantity of drafts than any other bar in Boston. Then word got out and the Sunset turned more into an amusement park making every effort to bring in the tourists and transient residents of Allston/Brighton.\r \r Still a good place to grab a great microbrew but you have to go offpeak otherwise be ready to drink with the college kids sipping on their yards as a novelty or the many tourists. Pros: Lots of tap beer, prob one of the best in town Cons: Become a tourist trap more

Best Beer, great nachos, busy 3/10/2007

I frequent sunset quite often. The food is great, standard American. The chili sampler is the BEST deal. All entrees have ample food, so consider sharing. The best thing about sunset is the beer selection. The menu can be overwhelming, but servers and bartenders are incredibly knowledgeable about the beers. The beers on tap change frequently, too. There is no chance of getting bored. My only complaint would be the service when the place is busy. We waited a looong time for our drinks. Pros: Beer, food Cons: service, noisy more

Worst service in boston 1/29/2007

While I agree that Sunset has a fantastic beer selection, and the food is delicious, the service is HORRIBLE. Mind you, my roomates and myself continue to go there frequently, so its not enough to deter us but we had a really bad experience this week when we sat at the bar and the manager was covering the bar while the bartender went to change a keg for 20 minutes. It took her 20 minutes to even take our drink order, then our wings we ordered came out and we still didnt have our drinks. Finally the actual bartender came back and got us our drinks and it had already been a half an hour. Luckily we weren't in a rush. I love the food and beer here, but I just wanted to warn everyone that the service is the worst I've ever experienced...ever. more

BEST Beer selection and Burgers 1/2/2007

My FAVORITE place to eat because of their wide variety of beer and delicious burgers. My roommates always go with other menu items, I've been to Sunset more times than I can remember and every time I go (except twice) I get the Texan Burger, which never ceases to please my taste buds. You cannot find a better deal and no matter what night you go its always lively with plenty of TVs and decorations on the wall to keep you occupied while you wait for your Flight of beers. The flight is something they offer to taste 4 different beers. How it works is you pick 4 beers from their long list of draft beers and they give you each of the beers in a 5 ounce glass. It's perfect if you want to try new things but not get stuck drinking 12+ ounces of something you don't like. I LOVE Sunset and I've lived in Brighton for almost a year and half. My roommates and I make it a habit to eat there at least once a week...that's how good it is.... Pros: BEER, TVs, Lively atmosphere, Food Cons: Parking can be difficult, longer waits on thurs+weekends more

What... a... selection 12/30/2006

The menu at Sunset is out of this world. The food was great, and even though our waiter messed up our order & credit card a number of times, he had a great sense of humor about it all. I'll be heading back soon! more

I love it here! 10/23/2006

How could you not love Sunset? Their waiters are super friendly, the food is pretty good, and their selection of beer is expansive. more

wow!!! 9/24/2006

never in my life have i seen such an insane selection of beer. no wonder they got best of boston! your head will def be spinning just from reading the menu but ask the staff to recommend something, they will find something to your likeing. unfourtunately i dont remember the name of the beer i had but it was great it was 9.2% alcohol! if you are into the lighter beer ask for the blueberry beer. Pros: beer selection, food, prices Cons: it can get roudy more

You won't be disappointed! 9/20/2006

My friends and I frequent the Sunset and we always have a good time! Their selection of beer is top notch and the food is really good, especially their burgers and sweet potato fries. Nachos are HUGE and we almost always can't seem to finish them. Great place to hang out with good friends. Pros: great beer selection; good food; fun, but busy atmosphere Cons: parking; limited bathrooms more

Beer Mecca 8/27/2006

My girlfriend and I decided to try this place after I had seen it featured in the TV Show ""Beer Nuts"". I consider myself semi-snobbish when it comes to beer, so I was excited to try it. We show up and according to the gf my face lit up like a kid in a candy store. I found Beer Mecca. It was a Sunday evening and we had no problems getting a table. With over 100 beers on tap, the choices seemed overwhelming at first. I decided to try a Paulaner Hefeweizen (my first true GERMAN Hefe) and fell instantly in love. She tried some kind of Raspberry beer that was also quite tasty. I had fish & chips cajun style with curly fries and cranberry coleslaw, all of which were delicious. Her quesadillas were pretty good too. The menu seems quite varied, as I was only expecting pizza and burgers, but they have everything from gourmet pizza to burritos to steak. The decor is definitely geared towards the beer theme, but still looked clean and attractive. The staff were friendly and prompt and the food came quickly. Overall, it was a great experience and definitely worth the $35 for dinner + drinks. I'll be going back again. Pros: Amazing beer selection and great food for reasonable prices Cons: Limited street parking - too bad it's not closer to the T more

Disappointing! 4/18/2006

I went here with friends, and we were seated promptly on a Saturday night. Our waitress was very slow, but not terrible. At one point, she took drink orders, came back 20 minutes later and told us our selections weren't available. The food wasn't great. The biggest disappointment was the management. We were seated next to the door to the adjoining bar, which was propped open so their customers could be tempted by the bar after dining in the restaurant. However, this left us FREEZING (I don't even understand why the BAR was so cold), and everytime we asked the bartender, waitress, and manager if they could close it, they said no. We eventually got really upset (I was SHIVERING wearing 2 bulky coats) and confronted the manager again. He was INCREDIBLY RUDE, gave some lame excuse why the door had to be open, then huffed away. Won't return there! Pros: beer selection, prompt seating Cons: rude management, not-so-great food, slow service more

Pretty Good Commercially Available Mudpie 10/31/2005

This is my favorite bar/ grill in Boston, if not the world. The burgers and apps are excellent, they have 100+ beers on tap including 2 or more kinds of chocolate stout, and they have very good commercially available mudpie (that used to be the best until some bar on 82nd and 2nd in NYC started selling little, indivual ones). Anyway, still aa good place, and it'll always be both the root of inclusion of Guiness in mudpie crust and an advocate of IP sharing. Pros: burgers, beer more

Good Starting Point for Beer Drinkers 8/15/2005

Beer sampling made easy with Beer Flights. Able to find some new favorites. Bar food is along the same with all places, though wings could have been cooked longer. No problem gettting a table, service was friendly and knowledgable but in the weeds from the moment we sat down. Volumn of place went up as the chatty Kathys startup liquoring up. Good starting point for a night out with friends. Pros: Beer selection, Staff Knowledge, Price Cons: Slow Service, Food was Average more

Fabulous! 3/28/2005

I was hosting 5 friends from out of town, took them to Sunset, and we were all blown away by how great it was. Amazing beer selection, delicious food, great service, and all in all pretty affordable. My only complaint was that it was quite crowded, and the one-stall bathroom made for a bit of a wait. But regardless, you know I'll be back again! Pros: Inexpensive, Tons of beers, Yummy food Cons: Crowded, Loud, Long line for bathroo more

A great place for a great beer 5/21/2004

First of all, this place offers an astonishing amount of beers on tap. Any one who enjoys good beer will admit that most times it is better on tap rather than in a bottle. This pub boasts a huge amount of tapped beers and excellent food to match. The burgers are big and filling, but leave plenty of room for the beer! In a land where boring bars charge entrance fees and feature the worst of what the local colleges have to offer, the Sunset is a gem! more

must stop 5/7/2004

the beer menu and wall of taps/bottles is like nothing youve ever seen . a must to bring friends or out of towners they will have fun even if they dont like beer. we feasted on spinach artichoke dip, boneless buffalo wings, nachos then ordered dinners left with doggy bags and feasted again later. Pros: big portions, great food, hard to find beers Cons: , busy more

my favorite 7/7/2003

alwaysgood, you will find beers you never seen and the newest in town.havent been in a while just went and it keeps getting better.great burgers, wings and bar apps are top notch.overall this is a great place Pros: awesome food, insane beer selection, great to bring friend Cons: too many people, too many choices, overeating more

Not just lots of fresh beer, good food! 6/22/2003

I went to Sunset expecting to find the largest selection of tap beer in the area (over 110 taps!, what a sight). I wasn't dissapointed. Not only did they have Arrogant Bastard on tap (a beer from California, be wary - not for everyone), they had really good food too. All the standard bar food, like nachos, wings, and spinach and artichoke dip are available (nachos are GIGANTIC), there are also a lot of entree selections. Steak tips are out of this world, and the quesadillas are great. I had great service, even though I went in on a Friday night one time when they were really busy. The food came out quickly, and with so many beers to choose from, I didn't so much walk out of there as stumble. Overall, a great place to go out with friends, or take a date (beer is a great conversation starter). Pros: great service, lots of beer, many great food items Cons: no parking, a little loud in area, only 2 bathrooms more

You've got it all at Sunset 1/9/2003

Between the beer selections and the great Nachos, you can't go wrong at Sunset. They have something there for everyone. If you're feeling adventurous, definitely go for a yard or 1/2 yard of your favorite beer. Good thing the B line is close by! more

plenty of brew for you! 12/23/2002

This place is easily one of the most enjoyable dining experiences in Boston. The food is good and hot. The beers are plentiful and the crowd is pleasant. There are a good amount of TV's if you're inclined to watch a game, but most are near the bar. This place is not that expensive, but for a burger, fries and a few beers might run you about $20. I always take friends here and they love it! Pros: variety of beers, good sandwiches, curley fries Cons: crowded on weekends, pricey beer more

Best Burgers and Beer Joint 12/15/2002

Sunset grill Makes the best ""Steam"" Burgers, Period. They cook them the way you want, not the way that they do like a lot of places. Plus as a added bonus to the great food (it is all great) They have 129 taps and a few hundred different bottles of BEER Pros: Beer selection, Food Cons: Parking, Wait (At times) more
