Avalon Day Spa & Salon

I used Avalon Salon and Spa for my wedding day makeup. I decided on this place because they are only one of two beauty salons that have airbrush makeup available in the RGV. I went there about two months before my wedding to get an idea of pricing and availability for the date. I was given a price of $85 for the airbrush makeup by the makeup artist Ericka (she is the only one who does airbrush there). She told me to come back a few days before my wedding so that I could give her the look that I wanted. When I came back, she let me know that her pricing had changed and that the price I had been given was not by her so she was now charging extra (about $100). As I began to show her the look I wanted which was fairly simple (natural eyes and lips), she started adding so many extra ridiculous charges. She was basically trying to nickel and dime me. In fact her final price went up to $140. Even the girl who was doing the booking seemed confused by what Ericka was saying, I could tell that these extra charges were being made up by her on the spot. When the booking girl would state that there were discount available Ericka would hide her face and turn directly away from me which I guess she would be trying to let her know not to lower the price. I stated that I wanted to cancel and she immediately pretended to give me a discount (final price $120). Since, it was so close to the date of the wedding, I had to keep my appointment. On the day of the wedding, I left avalon looking like a drag queen the make up was not at all the natural colors I wanted. It is such a shame too, I would have given her a very generous tip anyway if she had not behaved that way and if she had listened to what I wanted. I ended up having to remove some of the eye makeup and replace it on my own at home. Do not go with Ericka at Avalon. She does not have your best interest in mind. more

Me and my daughter decided to get facials at avalon and i have to say that the experience was wonderful. We walked out of there feeling fresh and reguvinated. Our facial specialists Alma and Judith went out of their way to make us feel special, and relaxed. They took their time and were very helpful in answering all of our questions and even making recommendations. We will definetly be going back for some future rest and relaxation. more

I went to Avalon twice. Once to have my hair cut and highlighted and for a couples massage. My cut was good but the hairdresser put foil highlights in with bleach and I ended up with awful stripes, she went way way to light so I never went back for hair salon services. For the couples massage it was also just an okay experience. At the time of our appointment we were put in a little tv room for about 5-10 minutes, I figured they weren't ready for us....But the tv volume was blaring and I just thought it was rude. The massages were divine however our time was up an hour after the appointment started. So our 1 hour massage included a 5-10 minute wait in a room, and getting undressed and waiting for the therapists to come in. This wouldn't have been so awful if they apologized or didn't charge like a high end spa. The atmosphere and decor is trendy, modern and cool like you would imagine a spa to be like in NYC or LA but they have a long way to go in customer service to fit the image of a trendy upscale salon you would find in a large city. more

This Salon is the best place for you to unwind and relax. They pamper you as if you were a newborn baby and/or were a queen from Spain. All your problems and worries disappear when you enter the spa. I would recommend this salon to anyone. It is a great place! more
