It's true. The ice cream is great. Prices are wonderful (but they should start taking credit/debit cards in this day and age). The tomato soup is the BEST! It is even better served along with an egg salad sandwich. The egg salad portion is generously mounded onto the sandwich with an ice cream scoop. Sometimes there is a bit of a wait due to it's cozy atmosphere and popularity but it is usually worth it. Sometimes the staff are not as attentive or interested as they could be. Order what you want when you first get waited on or you may not get a chance later! I still give Austin's my highest rating. more

Austin's- A Tucson landmark 8/15/2005

Stepping into Austin's is a little like stepping into a time machine- it looks very 1950's with cozy boothes and a counter to get ice cream at. Austin's has great comfort food (I love the tuna melt and the chili dog) as well as some yummy homemade ice cream in flavors ranging from your basic strawberry to peanut butter cookie dough to pickle (yep, I've tried the pickle flavor- a little salty for my tastes). The prices are totally reasonable, the service is usally speedy and the food is always good. One warning- they don't take credit cards, so make sure you have cash or a check book with you. more
