Thank you Dr. Loftus. I have never had 5/30/2012

Thank you Dr. Loftus. I have never had a better surgical experience than with you (and I have had some surgery). I had c-spine fusion. Some of the processes seemed slow because you go through an RN first (Sara is great!). Then there's physical therapy, the pain management (i.e., spinal injections). Once you go through everything though the timing to actually have the surgery happened quickly (within 2 weeks from decision). I personally appreciated the conservative approach to jumping into surgery (exhausting every option prior to) but it does get painful during the process leading up to surgery. The office staff is what you'd expect in a professional office. more

Thank you Dr. Loftus and staff. 2/29/2012

Thank you Dr. Loftus and Austin Neurological Institute team for taking such good care of me and giving me my life back. My L4 & L5 discs were smoothed out/off (they looked like the jagged edge of a key) in November. Dr. Loftus found some arthritis spurs and cleaned them out as well. Minimal invasive surgery was right, apparently back in the day the cut would be 4-6? long with lots of trauma to the surrounding tissue, and nerves. Not for me, the incision was only 2? at best with no nerve and very little tissue damage. The stabbing nerve pain throughout my leg is gone. Woohoo! My wife reminded me that I have had back pain of some sort for 20 years. Now 4 months after surgery I can touch my toes, jog, sit, and stand without pain. If you?re in need of quality, caring, non invasive spine repair I would recommend them. 512-836-0900. Oh, BTW I get nothing but a good feeling for posting this recommendation. God Bless You! more

How are looks relevent? 8/22/2008

It seems very bizarre to me that an individual with a serious condition that would require Neurosurgical intervention would go on and on about the surgeon's appearance. Please, Austin do not, absolutely do not choose your brain and spine surgeon based on how he/she looks. Choose wisely, do your homework, and please know that Citysearch is not the best place to look for a Neurosurgeon. Restaurants, yes, doctors, not so much. more

Great Doctor, Good Looking Too 7/1/2008

Dr. Loftus helped me after I had been mistreated with multiple epidurals and never correctly diagnosised. Pros: compassionate, good care, great staff, returns calls Cons: None more

Dr. Loftus, his physician's assistant, clinical and clerical staff are the best! 10/15/2007

Dr. Loftus, his associates and staff are the best in Texas! My husband had suffered with back pain and numbness and tingling in his leg for 10 years. He went from doctor to doctor, went through physical therapy and modalities for many years. In May, 2007, we became acquainted with Dr. Loftus. After a through examination and review of past records and tests, surgery was offered to My husband. Though very nervous, he underwent spinal fusion, which, in the skilled hands of Dr. Loftus, proved to be miraculous! Today, (4 months post surgery), my spouse has returned to a fulfilling lifestyle. The pain, numbness and tingling are a thing of the past. Though I was offered only five stars to rate Dr. Loftus, it hardly seems fair. For the skill, professionalism, and post operative care, he has rendered to my husband, I am eternally grateful. Ultimately, I would give Dr. Loftus, his physician's assistant, and staff (both clinical and clerical), a million stars! more

best doc ever! 6/18/2006

I love doctor T. (as I call him), In 2003 he replaced C4/5 5/6. I healed quickly and maintained full rotation of my neck. He was very attentive, in the hospital and out. He treated my pain adequedly, and was just as personable as he was professional. I surely did not expect to see him again. But,....life threw another monkey wrench at me and 2 years later I was diagnosed with degenerative disc disease and blew out disc L4/5 and L5/S1, I was the first person in Austin to receive the less invasive (introscopic? sorry, brain freeze) procedure. I was a little nervous, but I had ggod reason to trust Doctor Loftus due to my proior experience with him. He explained the process thouroghly and in a manner that I could understand. Made sense...less cutting, less pain. Again, I recieved the best care I have ever had by any doctor, and this time with the addition of an assistant, who is just one of the sweetest, most caring woman I have met. I am 5 mos into healing and doing fine. I recommend doctor T. any chance I get, to anyone who is considering back surgery. He is one of those rare doctors that make you feel safe and well cared for. His staff returns calls quickly, or take care of your concern right away. I can't say enough about the kindness and care I recieved. He responded to every concern I ever had, and never left me in pain, begging (as most docs have you do) for pain medication. He understood the pain and the emotional aspect just as well as the medical side. Pros: compassion and care Cons: none! more
