Yay! 11/4/2010

A wonderful cup of coffee, and that's all I have to say about that! more

good place for coffee 4/15/2009

the lamar location has changed over the years, but it is still a decent place to go and the coffee selection is pretty good. Pros: coffee Cons: sometimes bad service more

So-so...another we're too hip to provide hot food and good service place 2/4/2009

I always fell like the counter and wait staff are doing me a favor by taking my order here. Not that they won't stop working the cashier to make a 1/2 caff, 1 splenda latte for a customer and leave the line hanging out the door...seriosuly hire a full time barista on the weekends! more

bleh! 11/11/2008

I really wanted to like this place. The ambience seems really cool, but the food is terrible and overpriced. My omelet was room temperature and tasteless, and I was afraid to ask them to heat it up...the staff wasn't too friendly. Try Cafe Java in north Austin instead. It's much better! Pros: ambience, location Cons: food, staff, price more

good, except chips were soggy because they weren't packaged separately from veggie burger. also, veggie burger usually comes with mayo, but none was included in my order. more

Migas Review by The Melbourne Method 2/24/2008

The Migas themselves were good, and I will not deny that I enjoyed them. However, they did not knock me out of my seat to exclaim: ?Hot dog! These here are the best Migas in Austin!? Indeed, I did not say that, and I doubt I would say such a thing, but I certainly cleaned all of the Migas from the plate . The amount of Migas was also good (but there is never enough) as the Migas took up just less than half the plate while each of the sides took up just a little bit more than a quarter (I am not going to mess with fractions), and the two tortillas were placed on top of the potatoes. Another strength of the Austin Java Migas was that the proportion of veggies mixed in with the eggs and tortillas was properly proportioned so that each bite contained some onions, peppers, or jalapenos ? and the cup of salsa was enough to coat the Migas. Sadly the tortilla chips were not quite as plentiful as the veggies, they were certainly there, but they weren?t there in any kind of force. Lastly (though not in importance) the layer of cheddar melted over the top was good enough to give the top a thorough coating but the rest of the Migas were hardly contaminated with cheese (which is a bad thing). more

Best Pancakes In Town 8/7/2007

It's tough to review a place like this because everything that they serve is well above average. Some personal favorites include: chocolate-chip pancakes with strawberries, Vietnamese coffee, burgers, and the peanut soup. Ingredients are fresh, the staff members are cool, and the vibe is laid-back. more

Fabulous french toast! 7/10/2007

I love this eclectic, little coffee house. The coffee is great, and they have a yummy breakfast. You MUST order the french toast on farmer's toast - Not only is it a huge portion, but it's THE best french toast I've ever had!! more

Turkey Burger to Die For 11/17/2006

I went in here with a coworker and was soo happy. The turkey burger was the greatest I had ever had. It was seasoned to perfection and the bread was so good. It was mouth watering and I loved every minute of it. I had a soup as well and it too was good, but the turkey burger just completely clouded my thoughts. Pros: food, service Cons: location, parking more

Yum yum!! 10/8/2006

I love this place, cant get enough of the ""build your own breakfast tacos"". Not only do they have great Pros: Great food Cons: Both locations are in the southern part of Austin - far drive for us NW, N-austin-ites more

big fuss over not much 8/8/2006

I've been here 3 times- once their espresso machine was broken, once they were out of espresso, and once they brought me the wrong food twice. When I do get what I order, I'm generally unimpressed. People seem to meet here a lot, and I guess the location is nice, but there are much better coffeeshops and restaurants in the same area. Pros: location Cons: value, price, service more

only when desperate... 4/10/2006

The food here is just not very good and for what you get, pricey. I only go when I am desperate and starving and nothing else is open. The atmosphere is pretty comfortable and the hours convenient, but that is all this place boasts. Pros: atmosphere, hours Cons: food , prices more

One of my favorite 3/20/2006

Austin Java... I ususally go to the Barton Springs location and, guys and gals, if you haven't been there... It is a must. The food is great, the coffee delicious and the staff fabulous. Check out Crystal and her smile or Tiffany and her laugh... Everyone is great. Try their Crawfish avocado salad while you are there. It is outstanding. Pros: Cool poeple, Great food, Great atmosphere Cons: mmmm... No, Still not, Sorry no cons more

Great first expeirence @ Barton Springs location! 4/30/2005

Well we just ran into this place, wanting to go to Shady Grove but chose Austin Java on Barton Springs. Great atmosphere, free wireless, great to grab a drink and chill out. The food was awesome, Crawfish & Advocado Salad, great Chicken Penne Pasta (not too heavy), and great African Peanut Soup! Only recommendation: Austin ""Java"" can be perceived as just a coffee shop, but this place has so much more. Awesome looking desserts. Shouldn't it be Austin's Bistro? I'm going to copyright that. Pros: Atmosphere, Great Food, Wireless Cons: Marketing more

tasty food and comfortable atmosphere 6/4/2004

A great place to go alone with my laptop or go grab a beer and tasty food with friends. A diverse menu with many things to choose from. I really enjoyed the grilled chicken penne pasta. Very laidback with no pesky waiters or waitresses. We sat out front on the patio and had a great experience. Pros: comfortable, good food, serving breakfast lat more

MMM MMM GOOD... 12/30/2003

Austin Java Co is the best! I highly recommend their Spicy Asian Peanut soup. It's made me a regular since now I crave it at least once a week. Very cozy and welcoming atmosphere. Great place to relax with a cold one after a stressful day! Pros: Great Food, Great Service Cons: Some over priced item more

The Best Brunch 8/7/2002

Austin Java is a great place to go for brunch. Their migas were the first place that I ever ate migas, and I have been a big fan of the miga ever since. I particularly like their Vietnamese coffee. It's really quite good. Their crawfish quesadilla is good, and I believe that they have good pasta and sandwiches as well. The dessert is always good too. The midtown one off of Lamar is the only one that I can vouch for the quality. It is also a nice place to sit outside or to people watch! Pros: great brunch, good coffee, nice atmosphere Cons: counter service, small/may be crowded, limited parking more
