I really wanted to like this place. The ambience seems really cool, but the food is terrible and overpriced. My omelet was room temperature and tasteless, and I was afraid to as...

Great place to hang out, yummy desserts! 3/23/2006

I typically stop at Austin Java on Barton Springs on my way to work and have coffee or breakfast. It's a very nice place to sit and read, use your laptop, basically hang out or get things done by yourself. It's also a great place to meet for lunch or dinner, though I have to say of all the food I've tried I like their breakfasts and desserts (and coffee) best. I've found that their other entrées looks better than they taste. Not that they're bad, just not as I good as I would expect. (like their turkey burger - too much bread involved) Of course, I've yet to try everything on the menu. They also show a movie on their back porch at 8 pm on Fridays, and they're open late. more

Not as good as I'd expected, but I'll go and try it again. 10/24/2005

First of all, I went on a Sunday. Bad choice. I asked at the counter (when I finally got to it) and they confirmed that yes, I came at the worst (busiest) time of the week. Well, it's popular for a reason anyway. I ordered the asparagus eggs benedict. I really like eggs benedict and don't get a chance to have it very often. It came with home style (chunks) potatoes and black beans. It was a bit bland. Both the eggs benedict and the potatoes. Bummer. My husband got a different dish (not a breakfast) and chose the mashers (mashed potatoes) for his side item. I snuck a forkful of the mashers and those alone are worth going back for! One of the reasons I wanted to go there was that I was looking for a place to help socialize my rescued pooch and I'd heard that they are "dog friendly" (on the outside patio only, of course). I'd also heard that they'd stopped being "dog friendly" due to complaints. When we were there, it was BUSY, but a couple of people arrived with dogs and a server brought water bowls out for them. Nice. I'll have to go try it again and post an update. The desserts looked "to die for", so maybe I'll bring the dog (not on Sunday) and kick back with some coffee and dessert. more

Great Food and Coffee! 9/17/2005

I love having lunch here! I know this may sound like a place geared towards college kids, but it's actually a great place for everyone!! They serve a bit of Mexican and a bit of American. Everything on their menu is great- I have not found anything that I disliked yet. They do have the best breakfast quesidilla. You must try it! more

Great Find on Lamar 8/14/2005

Great Food, desserts and atmosphere all with wireless internet. My favorite dish on the menu would definately be the Creamy Mushroom Pesto Pasta which is to die for. So creamy and delicious... This is definately a great place to bring a family, take a date, or just to hang out with friends. Sit outside when it is nice, or inside when it is too hot for the austin weather. more
