Service more impressive than the food 11/26/2005

My fiancee and I went for our 5 year anniversary and we really enjoyed ourselves. Overall I think that Aujourd'hui is worth going to simply for the 'experience.' The service is undoubtedly top-knotch and the intricate and beautifully designed interior generates an impressive and romantic atmosphere overlooking the public gardens. The window-seats are a must. We each ordered a 6-course tasting which didn't leave much room for the scrumptious souffle but I would recommend one person ordering the tasting and the other ordering a la carte so that you can share in the variety. Personally I wasn't very impressed with the tasting but my fiancee really enjoyed it. The service and atmosphere, however, was like none other. Pros: Top-knotch service, Impressive Atmosphere, Amazing Desserts more

power lunch 6/10/2005

The Bristol is an excellent place for lunch especially if you are doing business. The food is excellent and the service is very friendly and attentive. The Bristol is great for a power lunch because if you are trying to impress the overall experience helps that. You have the incredible views of the Garden which are great in all seasons. The food is excellent and when eating it helps create a happy atmosphere that enhances the overall experience rather than takes away from your business Pros: geat in all areas more

The Bristol Lounge is so much more than just AMAZING food (I HIGHLY recommend The Bristol Burger, Tea and the Viennese Dessert Buffet!) The Bristol Lounge is about the ""Total Dining Experience."" Great Views of the Boston Public Gardens and the beautiful swan boats, people watching, tea with friends, drinks after work at the chic new bar, a cozy table by the fireplace on a cold winter night, friendly service.... What more could you possibly want out of a restaurant? more

Overall Excellent! 5/26/2005

I have gone two weekends in a row with out-of-town guests. The atmosphere is inviting and relaxed; the service is superb - knowledgeable and friendly, yet extremely professional without being stuffy. The menu selection and food quality is premiere. I have lived in the city for years and never went to the restaurant. It is now a favorite! Pros: Food & Wine, Service, Atmosphere more

Outstanding! 5/26/2005

The Bristol Lounge has extremely friendly, professional staff that go above and beyond for their guests. Though seemingly 'expensive'; it is not - the value you receive for the food & beverage is completely in line with other reputable venues; additionally, the service is simply outstanding - the staff goes the extra mile with any simple request, their knowledge of the menu or beverages is fabulous. I would recommend this location again and again. You simply feel relaxed and among friends in a lovely environment. Pros: Service, Menu Selection, Value more

Best dining experience ever! 7/12/2004

My wonderful boyfriend took me here for my birthday and it was fantastic. I had the fois gras for an appetizer and the duck for my entree. Both were perfectly prepared and presented. For dessert I had an incredible creme brulee with fresh fruit. Everything was simply wonderful. I would love to go back again and again, but the price is a bit steep. Definately a worthwhile splurge for a special occasion, though. Pros: Food, Service, Fois Gras! more

Great Place 6/24/2004

I came here for the ""Green Monster"" and I've been back at least once a week ever since. The service is so good and non-pretentious here. After the second visit I was already on a first name basis with a few of the bartenders. I don't eat here...the wasabi snacks and warm nuts are just enough!! So I can't review the food, but I am planning a visit with an English friend from Texas for high tea. Pricey, but worth it Pros: Friendly Service, Good Drinks, Intimate Cons: , none, none more

Simply the best 10/18/2003

This restaurant ranks right up there with Alain Ducasse in New York, and easily surpasses most, if not every, Boston restaurant in terms of quality of the menu, taste, service, and ambiance. The atmosphere was very old world-like making for an unbeatable romantic evening. The chef's seasonal tasting menu was immaculate, and the paired wines matched each dish perfectly. It took a little over 2 hours to finish dinner, yet was paced perfectly and made for great conversation. It didn't stop there, however, as their selection of dessert wines made choosing a bottle near impossible (until I noticed the Inniskillin ice wine, at which point the deal was done). I failed to mention anything about the service, but it can be summed up easily: their staff was knowledgeable, friendly, and prompt. We're planning our next trip as soon as their winter tasting menu is ready to go. Pros: Romantic, Easy parking, Best food in Boston more

Pass on this one! 9/1/2003

After what I had read on this city guide, I was so disappointed with most everything about the Bristol Lounge. The food was just mediocre and the prices were ridiculous. The service was pitiful. With all the great restaurants in Boston, this would be the last place that I would recommend! more

Died and went to heaven 8/26/2003

If you have been hungering for that perfect evening out -- an elegant and relaxing atmosphere, professional, friendly and attentive service without attitude, delectible food and the dreamy atmosphere in which to enjoy it all -- it is time to ring the Four Seasons and make a reservation. Aujourd'hui takes you back to the days when an elegant dinner WAS the evening's entertainment. It was not hard to get a reservation (we called four or five days ahead) and when we arrived we were seated immediately. It seemed like we had a staff of thousands attending to us, and every one of them was engaging, polite and down-to-earth. We decided to get the ""chef's tasting menu"" and were treated to a parade of delightful dishes, topped off with their famous Grand Marnier Soufflé. Everyone should experience such heaven at least once in their lifetime. I cannot reccomend it highly enough. Pros: Staff / Service, Food!!!!!, Overall Experience Cons: I can't go every day more

The service provided at this restaurant is top knotch. Every server is more than pleasant and extremely accomodating. They will explain every detail of what the meal includes, what flavor is over bearing and they make accurate reccommendations. The wine list is phenomenal. Some of the entree's are better than others. I would absolutely reccommend any of the rissotto's and/or duck dishes. Lobster is great, however, the other fish dishes are good but not outstanding and are a bit salty. The dessert's were presented nicely but were also average.Overall i would reccommend this restaurant because the service was excellent, the wine list extensive, and most dishes are great, but be prepared to spend 200+$$$ Pros: Service, Wine list, poultry dishes Cons: price, salmon more

Not worth what its made out to be 2/22/2003

Disappointing for a $200 meal for 2. The food is good but not astounding. Our waiter, though very proud, managed to mess up our order.. The dinning room at the Ritz has a better decor and is more impressive overall. more

Boston's Best Bar 1/11/2003

The Bristol Lounge is three places: 1. the standup bar, where ""everybody knows your name,"" and the bartender (Ron in the evenings) can make friends with you in a second if you just talk to him .. very easy place to meet classy people; 2. a cocktail lounge with great appetizers and piano music, perfect for an after work or before dinner drink with a group of 4-8 BUT be aggressive in telling the waiter how often you want him to check back. They tend to leave you alone but are happy to give faster service if you ask for it. 3. A first class restaurant with a wonderful menu. The crabcakes and clam chowder are superb and the MOnday night meatloaf is the best I've ever tasted. If Ron is on the bar, ask for the ""Oswald Martini"" which is made with Tanqueray Ten gin and jalopeno stuffed olives! Pros: friendly customers, great food, ambience Cons: limited menu, service can be slow, hard to get in more

YUM 11/20/2002

My boyfriend took me there for are anniversary, and the food was amazing. I had the sirloin and he had the venison. It was so well prepared, and the service there is outstanding. Make sure you leave room for there amazing dessert! The only con was the noise from an adjoining room that was having a business meeting. It wasn't that crowded that we needed to sit that close. But overall it was a great experience Pros: Amazing food, Great Staff more

Consistently 4 Seasons 8/16/2002

My girlfriend and I travel to many places and have consisently had great service at all Four Seasons and their restaurants. In Boston so far since we've moved here Aujourd'hui has not failed us in almost any request we've made in for dinner or brunch. We can count on the service and good food more

THE UPSCALE BURGER 8/8/2002

This is one of the top ten in the country, never mind BOSTON. Yes it's probably one of the most expensive in town. You can people watch with a window table over looking boylston st.. Also a great resturant in the rear of the lounge, late night dessert buffet that will make any sweet tooth smile Pros: valet parking, great location Cons: expensive, could be bit of wait more

The Tiffany's of Dining 8/8/2002

The Bristol's ambience is perfect for both formal and casual dining. It provides outstanding food and drink with service reminiscent of the storied elegant past when dining out was an experience to look forward to and to remember. Tables are spaced so you don't share your neighbor's conversation. In brief, it's the best!! Pros: spacious, simple elegance, royal treatment more

One of the gems of Boston. 7/23/2002

I've never been disappointed when I've come here. It's elegant, not stuffy, tasteful, not trendy, and polished, not brittle. I was there on a date last Friday, and we had a wonderful time. Our server (Trish?) was attentive without being smothering. We'd narrowed down our order to two entrees and a salad, but we both wanted each of them. Our server offered (without being asked) to split them and serve them as three separate courses. The presentations were perfect; they didn't just plate one dinner and slide half of it onto another plate. The food was delicious (especially the pasta with the tenderloin), the service was excellent, and there was music to boot (a pianist and bass). They also have a great dessert buffet on Friday and Saturday nights. It was the first time my date had been there, and he loved it. We had a great time! more

Formal Relaxation 6/11/2002

My friend I loved this place. The service was excellent, almost as good as the food. The salads and soup were fresh and flavorful, and the entres were wonderful. The atmosphere was so comfortable, formal, but relaxing. I would definatlely suggest this place to anyone who whats excellent and elegant food without the stuffy atmosphere. Pros: Very well priced, Atmosphere more

From early morning when the city's elite hold breakfast meetings, to late night when 30-somethings swill designer nightcaps, the Bristol is one of Boston's premier all-purpose hotel lounges. Large enough to house a small army, the lounge provides several different seating options, from street-side window tables to the rear bar's stools. A fireplace and live jazz and classical piano (Thursdays through Saturdays) add to the romantic atmosphere.
