Auction 84

For many years I have been going to all the auctions in South Florida and I love this place. Every week there is a great selection of new auction items - mostly antiques, designer furniture, crystal, china, etc. - and the quality is terrific. I have read with dismay the comments from the 2 people who on here who don't understand the bidding process. Some of the items at the auction have ""reserve"" prices from the owner and the Auctioneer is allowed to bid on behalf of the owner. They aren't ""fake bids"" and are done openly. Disregard those comments - they clearly don't know what they are talking about. more

This auction house is NOT reputable they are dishonest and the auctioneer is a scammer. The Auctioneer asks who the new bidders are and he then outbids the new people with fake bids and the new bidders are being screwed. Or he starts with fake bids and keeps going up until someone bids. I have been going to auctions for 20 years and this is the most unethical and dishonest auction house I have ever been to. Bid with caution and never admit to being a new bidder more

I am a regular at this auction and they are probably the most honest auction I have ever attended. The idiot who says the auctioneer is making ""fake bids"" clearly does not understand the auction business. Some items have reserve prices just like on ebay) and in those cases the auctioneer has to bid on behalf of the consignor if the reserve is not yet met. These aren't ""fake bids"". Look up auction law. People like veryunhappywithauction should be more careful before they go making anonymous accusations online against hardworking people. Ask questions before you hurt people! I love this auction and it has been a HUGE plus to Ft. Lauderdale since it moved here 3 years ago. more

The auctioneer is corrupt so bid with caution. For the last few weeks I have suspected unethical behavior at the Wilton Manors Theater Auction and tonight confirmed it. Tonight I observed members of the audience bidding on items and then the auctioneer goes to a fake bidder (or two) to increase the original bid and he then returns to the original bidder who bids against a fake bidders. In other words, the auctioneer is outbidding the customer so the Wilton Manors Theater Auction makes more money. Is this even legal? more

My condo association wont allow estate sales and I needed to sell most of the furniture & things in my 2 bedroom condo. I did not have time to try to sell all this stuff on my own. I heard about this place from my decorator -They won't take everything just better items like my antiques and leather furniture but they did help me find a charity to take some things. The auction prices were about what I could get on craigslist but without the hassle. The guys who picked up my furniture were great I even hired them on the side to help me move... more

I go to this auction almost every week and have a great time. It's in what used to be the 26th St. Playhouse. I also consigned a lot of high end furniture with them when my uncle passed, and I was paid right away. The owners really know how to stage and market items - several of the antique pieces sold for over $2000 so I was happy. The auction also helped by arranging donation of some things to charity so that we could clean out my uncle's house (he was a hoarder!) more

The last time I attended an auction at this house, a piano was on the block, and I would have loved to have had it. Opening bid was $8,500. I hadn't planned on spending that much that night, but luckily it didn't sell. I checked back later that week to see if it would be up for bid the following Tuesday. I saw one of the laborers in front of the house, and asked him, and he said he would check. He walked me inside where a woman with pink hair and a blonde man were sitting on the stage. When I inquired about the piano, I got a snippy reply ""you should have bid on it when you had the chance"". I explained I didn't come there prepared to spend so much that night, and by the time you added house fees and tax to the opening $8,500 bid. . . at which point she interrupted ""yes, $10,300, I know how much it would be"". I looked at her shocked by her rude interuption, at which point she added ""well they're not going to take less"". I explained I understood, at which point both she and the man asked why I hadn't bid when I was at the auction. I told them in no uncertain terms I did not appreciate the attitude, and I walked out. more

This business picked up many items from my mother's condo after she passed. I had to pursue them by phone over and over again before I received a very paltry check that only represented a few of the items. The most expensive ones they told me that were not sellable and were donated to charity, even though I had called about them many times, so that I could pick them up before they told me that. One was a fabulous table that I had offers on when we put it in craigslist, but did not sell because we wanted to make it worth Wilton's while to pick up the other stuff. And they were very unfriendly when I called to inquire. Pros: picked up items promptly Cons: sloppy packaging more
