"Home of Life Champions" Integrating Occupational Therapy into Martial Arts Training
Atomic Tae Kwon Do Family Arts and Health Center specializes in Martial Arts Classes for Tiny Tots, Children and Adults in Arts of Tae Kwon Do, Jiu-Jitsu and Mixed Self-Defense. Kukkiwon Certified Tae Kwon Do Curriculum is implemented within an Internationally recognized SKILLZ Program, designed by Martial Artists, Therapists and Psychologists. AGE SPECIFIC: The age-Specific Curriculum, based on Therapeutic and Dynamic Martial Arts drills, taught by the experts in Martial Arts, Therapy and Psychology, provides means for special needs as well as integrated children, to develop the most essential physical, intellectual, emotional and social skills: Focus, Agility, Concentration, Technique, Balance, Coordination, Teamwork. THERAPEUTIC APPROACH: Through the use of therapeutic activities integrated into Martial Arts training, the mission of the school is to provide services also to students in the community who, due to their disabilities, are not able to participate and succeed in other structured/organized activities. AWARDS: Serving the community for almost 10 years, the school received numerous awards: *International "Hall of Fame" Award for integrating Occupational Therapy into Martial Arts training, *2012 Best School Award at Governor's Cup Tournament in NY, *2013 Best School Award at NY State Tae Kwon Do Championship *Nomination for "Best of Long Island, 2014" in Martial Arts. INSTRUCTORS: Classes are taught by Master Bart Pontecorvo and Dr. Luiza Raab-Pontecorvo, double Black Belts in TKD and Jiu-Jitsu and both certified in SKILLZ Program. Master Bart, 4th degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do and 2nd degree Black Belt in Jiu-Jitsu. In 2013 was elected a Vice-President of NY State Tae Kwon Do Federation. Master Bart has 43 years of experience in Martial Arts as well as 28 years of experience in geriatrics and 8 years in early intervention working as a Licensed Occupational Therapist. Inducted to National "Metropolitan Who's Who in America for his unique approach and success on the field, has been featured on national TV in numerous Martial Arts programs and Seminars. Dr. Luiza, 3rd degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do and 2nd degree Black Belt in Jiu-Jitsu, also holds a Doctorate Degree in musical arts. On top of instructing Martial Arts for the past 13 years, she has also been teaching at Stony Brook, Hofstra and Adelphi Universities and touring internationally giving Lectures and Concerts. She is an author of essays and articles dealing with subjects such as: Affect of music on development of human brain; Utilizing Philosophy of Martial Arts in everyday life, etc… Her essay about the influence of Tae Kwon Do on her own life won the 2009 Participation Award at Tae Kwon Do Essay Contest organized by the Korean Embassy in the United States, and was published in both Korean and English languages.
