Hello,
Dr. Peterson has been wonderful in trying to alleviate my stress in a dental chair. We have completed 3 of 4 fillings that I need done. I am now looking at 3 crowns in the future as well apparently.
While I appreciate his demeanor and willingness to calm my nerves (dental surgery literally feels like some kind of torture with all the drills and smells and etc. I CAN not handle rubber dams in my mouth at all and he has worked without them so far) he did give me an extra shot of Novacaine on my last visit, probably because I thought I could handle getting 2 fillings done again like I had the week prior. Just getting that 2nd shot this time put me into a stress mode and we stopped after the first filling. This didn't happen the first time, so not sure what was different about these 2 fillings from the first 2.
I attribute this to knowing I would now be numb twice as long as the previous time (and I was number far longer) but also because the assistant didn't numb the area enough before the injection. It was a different assistant this last time, the first time I do remember the assistant was Jenny. She was excellent. As a matter of fact, the pain from the injection site was sore for 2 days this time, last time there was none. I do appreciate that all "hardware" is hidden. If there is one thing that gets my stress going, it's seeing a big plate full of drills and bits.
Next time when we finish the last filling, I will request to be totally numb before i feel the needle pierce my gums. I sure hope I don't have soreness at the injection site for 2 days as well. The soreness finally went away late in the afternoon today (Wednesday and my appt was Monday afternoon.) I'm just letting you know this since you sent the survey. I'm sending this privately.
I will have to tackle the crowns one at a time as well, and am already anxious about the time needed to be spent in the chair. But I'll deal with that in a few months as those appointments are scheduled for December and beyond at this point.
Again, he has been fantastic with helping to ease my fears, but this time was a much harder scenario for me and the leftover pain was disappointing. Your entire staff has been very friendly and accomodating though.
Thank you,
Machelle
