Great Steaks and good service 4/23/2008

The restaurant has been in Corpus since forever. I have ate many times there and the steak flavor is awesome. The quality might not be that great, but the flavor is to die for. The fried shrimp are very good. The vegetable of the day seems to be always over cooked. The soups are very good. The dinner salads are your basic iceberg, tomato wedge and dressing. The dressings are bland, but are very fresh. The service is above average and the place is kept clean. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a decent priced good meal. This restaurant has been around since 1957 and I don't think they've ever updated anything but if you want a great steak at a fair price, bring a pillow to put under your butt and prepare to be pleased with the good service and great tasting steaks. These folks will bring you soup AND salad upon being seated usually. The soups are old style homemade and will satisfy the most discriminating of tastes. They should renovate the place and expand. The lunch menu is an excellent value also. Expect a crowd at lunch though, there usually is one. Pros: great steaks and soups Cons: poor location / poor condition more

GREAT food, Greek feel, nice secluded hole in the wall! 5/11/2007

Anytime I'm in Corpus, I always drop by the Astor. I'm not sure about every other day of the week, though. Honestly, it's been a couple years since I lived in corpus. The thing I loved about the Astor was the immediate salad and (on sundays) FANTASTIC cream of chicken soup as no-charge appetizers. Their forte really is steak, though. I still dream about their chicken fried steak. I've also found that they are one of the few restaurants that serve ""Green Goddess"" dressing. Extreme garlic, salty...I love it. I'm not going to lie, it IS indeed a hole in the wall. Kind of poorly upkept, and DEFINITELY not in the best of neighborhoods, but the food is worth it! more
