Truly Disappointing! 3/19/2012

I decided to try the place with a coupon I found and boy am I glad I didnt pay full price for an 18"" cheese pizza. The pizza was extremely salty and the sauce tasted like "" Little Ceasars"". yuck! Truly disappointed at the the reviews that stated the best ""NY style Pizza in Raleigh"" because it's not at all but if you dont belive me try it at your own risk... more

Best Italian In Raleigh 1/1/2011

My fiance and I just ordered delivery from here tonight. My mom had been there over the summer and told me to go but I hadn't gotten around to trying it. Oh my goodness. I'm so glad I did. It's a little pricier than I normally like to pay for delivery but it is very VERY worth it. I ordered the Shrimp Parmesan and my fiance had the Chicken Parmesan. It came with side salads and two garlic knots for each entree. You also get a choice of pasta with it. I definitely loved the italian dressing with the house salad. The portions are huge so you will definitely have leftovers. The Chicken Parmesan would most certainly feed two people. I was a little wary about spending the money for takeout but we did and felt no guilt after the fact! Everything was very flavorful. I can't comment on the interior of the location but I have heard positive things. It was REFRESHING to not have the same ol same ol (Olive Garden etc)\r \r I will be spreading the word for sure about this place! more

It's so good! 12/18/2010

My neighbor recommended this place for good gnocchi and they were right!! It was awesome. Comfortable atmosphere and good food. more

Excellent service, staff and food 9/4/2010

I have been eating at this bistro for a least the past five years. It never fails. Great staff, great food and service. Last night my daughters and I ate here and again were fully satisfied. The staff here knock themselves out to be most accommodating. I highly recommend them . more

$8 for pasta with sauce 2/25/2010

I'm sorry... paying $8.30 for a small bowl of pasta with sauce is simply too much. NOTHING came with it. Waitress took 15 minutes to deliver soup (which I was hoping would come before the meal) and the whole meal, which she served together. I will not be back. Pros: casual open atmosphere Cons: Overpriced more

Best Pizza I've had in NC- Authentic Italian 2/26/2009

I'm from the tri-state area and really haven't been impressed with the pizza down here in NC. However Assaggio's is on point. If you miss real NY style pizza this is your place. It's not too doughy, not too crispy, but right in the middle. Haven't tried the pasta yet, but it looks just as good. The place is clean, great ambience, and quick service. Recommended as a refuge for displaced new yorkers. Pros: The panoramic of Yankee Stadium in the men's room sold me before I even ate. Cons: A little pricey, but definitely worth it. more

One word... AWESOME!! 6/13/2008

This place is awesome. We moved down from NY in 2004, and ever since then have tried every acclaimed pizza place in the area. We lived in Apex for a while and fell in love with NY Pizza in Holly Springs. The only downside to NY Pizza is that they only have pizza, no classic Italian take-out. When we moved to North Raleigh, we tried Assagio's because it gets such good reviews. After trying it, we agree with everyone else who loves it! Their pizza is as good as the best places in NY--it's always super fresh, the sauce is tangy but not too sweet. The only problem is that you have to order it ""well-done"" or it might be a bit soupy. Also, their prices are a bit steep, but when you have the best Italian take-out in Raleigh, you can charge what you want. Their garlic knots are perfection and their pasta dishes are heaven. This place is the dog's bollocks. As for the preceding review, I can only guess that it was posted by a competitor OR someone who ordered on an off night (though I highly doubt Assagio's ever has an off night...). Pros: Great NY style pizza, delicious food, nice customer service Cons: A little overpriced more

New York? ...NO WAY!!! 4/17/2008

If you miss the NY/NJ pizza, this is not the place!! Whatever you do, please DO NOT order a sub. I went there mouth watering for a good ""New York"" sub. (That's what they claim). It came out and had 2 slices of ham, 1 slice of salami and lettuce. When I asked the owner about it, he said ""That's how we make it"". I've never had a sub up north like that. The pizza usually comes out doughy. Not great!! :( I've also tried their Italian dishes, it's alright, but for the price you are better off going to Daniels in Apex. Now that is AWESOME!!!! :) You may have to drive but it's well worth it and you get a lot more food for the price. Pros: Great Service Cons: doughy pizza, bad subs, and pricey more

Best Pizza in Raleigh 2/10/2008

We love Assagio's and order from there at least once a week. The pizza is always fresh- the crust crispy, and the sauce is great! We've never had a bad experience there- either with the food or with the service. Occasionally we stop and eat there on the way to a movie- they do have table service- and they're always very friendly. Highly Recommended! Pros: Great Food Cons: Not exactly an intimate atmosphere more

Love the garlic knots! 12/6/2007

We ordered lasagna, garlic knots, and salad from Assaggio's for a luncheon we had at work. Yum, yum, and yum. The lasagna was really darned tasty! The garlic knots were smothered in garlic and had plenty at the bottom of the pan. I can't tell you how much I like garlic! It's going to be permeating through my pores all day. I'm sure my coworkers will love me by 5 pm. The salad was a standard salad, but they put extra peppercinis in there. I think I could eat a whole bucket filled with those garlic knots. YUM! \r \r I'd definitely like to try their pizza one day. I betcha it's outta this world! Pros: Garlic knots! Lasagna. Extra peppercinis in their salads. Garlic knots! Cons: Would've liked more cheese on the lasagna, but I love cheese! more

Can not get enough!!! 11/17/2007

So, our old house was a short 10 min. walk to Assaggio's. Now, it's a 10 minute drive and we still eat Assaggio's every other week at least. Albeit, the prices are somewhat high, yet the value is outstanding and the food is worth every penny. Their garlic knots are out of this World and their pizza, pastas, calzones & stromboli's are always hot, fresh, and superb. I think their marinara sauce is just right (it's not too sweet, not too salty, it's a perfect balance for the meal). \r \r Their casual environment is surprisingly intimate and their staff are super friendly. The manger (I think he's the owner since he's ALWAYS there) is a genuine guy and it's nice to feel like you are getting such high quality food in a little neighborhood restaurant.\r \r Only negative, they don't have a website, but that has zero impact on the quality of their food. Pros: Consistently great food, fast service, friendly, relaxed environment, fantastic pasticciotti Cons: No website more

Not the best Italian ever but pretty good 7/28/2007

This restaurant's concept is interesting. You order and pay at the counter. They give you a stand with a number and your food is delivered. Sounds like a step above Sbarrao's. But the prices are that, if not, more than that of a good, ""normal"" Italian restaurant. The dining room is lit like a romantic restaurant. But there is a do-it-yourself soda fountain. The restaurant can't seem to decide what it is.\r \r I had a spinach calzone and it was fine. The round garlic rolls were pretty good. Others at our table had subs and manicotti. \r \r So, overall, I wasn't too impressed with the setup of the restaurant but food was good, yet a little pricey. more

One of the best restaurants in Raleigh. 3/25/2007

Assaggio's serves top quality food with a great relaxing atmosphere without uppity jerks wandering around everywhere. I've tried a handful of things on the menu and have yet to find something I dislike. Everyone I have introduced to this place has immediately fallen in love with it. Just go there. more

Addictive pizza, staff makes you feel like family, incredibly clean nicely lit dining room 12/27/2006

My family LOVES the pizza and can't get enough of it! The prices are very reasonable. Unless you are going to one of those swanky Italian restaurants downtown for a swanky night out, then stay close to home and get the quality without the price!\r \r It's hard not to get the pizza, although their pasta dishes are great! Take home the refrigerated sauces and pastas as well to make your own creations.\r \r Although we usually take the pizza home, all of the food is best right out of their oven - so eating there is advised - good advise for any Italian food.\r \r You will never want to go to Olive Garden or Ragazzis again! Pros: Pizza, customer service, cleanliness, parking Cons: ? more

If you want to be waited on hand and foot, go someplace else, however... 9/25/2006

if you like to be able to get your own drinks and order at the counter, this is a great italian resturant. The food is very good, the staff is wonderful and they are very good to the kids in the crew.\r \r Yes, you can get some bad food there as with any resturant. I'm not a huge fan of their marinara sauce, I personally think it needs more spices but with every resturant, you can't spice things up too much, you have to feed the masses and it is very good. \r \r Ordering pizza by the slice there is just like ordering it anywhere. You never know how old it really is. However, of all the times we have eaten there, we only had 1 bad meal and that was because the cook overcooked the meal that night, every other time we have had it, it has been wonderful. My friends wouldn't recommend the white pizza but that's their taste. \r \r I have had some great meals there. My prefered meal is the Chicken Marsalla. The only complaint I have is that it has too many mushrooms, but I'm not a big mushroom fan. Someone in my family has eaten almost every non-seafood dish there and we love it. Pros: usually quick service, good service, good food Cons: tables close together, very family style seating more

To the girl who ordered a Reuben and was dissapointed . . . 8/17/2006

Listen, if you go to an Italian Restaurant and order a reuben and you dont like it, you deserve it and by the way you are also a schmuck. Ordering a Reuben at Assaggio's is like ordering Falafel at a Chinese Takeout. I am from Bklyn, I know good Pizza and Italian and Assaggio's is where its at in Raleigh. \r Lesson of the Day: Its wise to order Italian Food at an Italian restaurant) more

fast, great italian food 7/3/2006

I love Assaggio's! My husband and I eat here all the time. It's got great quality food--the kind you'd find in uppity expensive restaurants, but here you order at the counter and it's brought out quickly, and it's quite a bargain for how much food you get (I get at least 2 meals out of every dinner!). Their pizza is also great, NY style. Pasta Assaggio's is my favorite dish. Garlic knots are great, too! Pros: quick service more

More Like Assnastio's 5/21/2006

This was some of the worst food I've had since I've moved here. Granted, I only ordered a sanwich, but my Ruebem was ice cold in the center and kinda warm on the outside...and the bread was soggy. Yuck. Don't make the same mistake I did. more

Will definitely go back. Great Food!! 5/17/2006

Food was excellent. My aunt had the eggplant Ratoullie (sp?) and it came with fresh, melted mozzarella slices on top MMMM... and I ordered the special which was mushroom ravioli with a marsala wine sauce. It was divine. I have been telling my friends about how great and authentic tasting the food was and I will definitely be going back. They had great service and the decor was simple and charming. They have a nice trellis with lights and pictures of Venice. I think the restaurant is more suited for casual dining than formal b/c you do order at the counter. more

Authentic NY Pizza and wonderful Italian food! 5/14/2006

Growing up in Philly and NY and having lived in the heart of Soprano-land north Jersey, we struggled when we first arrived in Raleigh to find a true taste of home...we found it at Assaggio's. This is true NY style pizza...if you question that, you've never really had it...crust, sauce, cheese are all perfect. Pasta dishes are all wonderful...from the authentic pasta itself to the fresh, perfectly seasoned sauces, to the generous portions. The gnocchi is perfectly light and fantastic with either the homemade marinara or the tomato cream sauce (a great recommendation from our favorite server). The garlic knots are, in a word, addictive. Salads are always fresh and crisp. Even though you order at the counter then seat yourself, the service is always friendly, fast and helpful. Wherever you live in the Triangle, it's worth the drive and close to ""home."" Pros: great food, inexpensive more
