Asphalt Green is overcrowded, expensive and highly commercially oriented. Given the special health effects of swimming, New York would need more than one 50m swimming pool for accommodating people of all ages and incomes (compare with number of nail salons!) I wonder about the quality of water when thousands people swim in this pool without brake. Also, it would be worth exploring to organize intensive swimming classes with accommodation somewhere in Long Island or other locations with reasonable prices. more

Best pool I've seen in the city! 7/27/2006

if you are crazy about lap swimming this is the place to go. There are pools for the kids, pools for the professional swimmers. The out door pool is smaller than the indoor one, but still bigger than any pool I've seen in other sports clubs. There's no place to sun bath around the pool. Its $25 to get in and use the pool and other work out facilities. The gym has a beautiful outside view. Its definitely worth it! more

Come for the pool... stay for the pool! 8/19/2005

Asphalt Green has treadmills, weights and the like. I just want to say that right away because I am going to be talking for the rest of the time about the pool. The pool here is one of the best in all of New York City, and even Olympic hopefuls choose this pool to train in when they are in the city. The location is nothing special and convenient only to the Upper East Side. However, if you love to swim, it is worth the trip from even distant neighborhoods. more

A Down to Earth place to work out 8/9/2005

If you are looking for a more casual and down to earth place and crowd of colleagues to work out with, this is a good place to consider. Especially if you live on the upper east side - it is convenient and in the neighborhood. Pretty reasonable for NYC prices as well. more
