Warning: DO NOT LIVE HERE! 9/2/2010

I would hate for anybody to sign a lease with this place and get trapped the same way I did so I hope people researching this area get to read this and the many other negative reviews this place has had posted about them. In fact I haven't seen a positive review about this place yet. \r Just two months after we moved in, one of our neighbors made a bomb, yes a chlorine BOMB, and attempted to detonate it. He did not succeed and a neighbor called the police. Turns out he did detonate the bomb but not correctly so there was no explosion. The chlorine gas however was leaking when the police showed up, two of the officers had to be removed from the scene on stretchers. The office did nothing about it until 24 hours later they decided to tell us we needed to leave the apartment. Twenty four hours later! which means we would have been DEAD if that bomb really went off the way it was supposed to. Not to mention I still see the guy that made the bomb in the neighborhood from time to time and the management here seems to be ok with that. \r Six months into our stay here the exterminator broke a pipe next door and flooded our entire apartment! Erickson's was called that night by management and once Erickson's Water Clean-up showed up the management team went home and offered us no place to stay or anything. After a night of trying to sleep with 7 fans in our apartment and 3 de-humidifiers, not to mention the temperature on our thermostat said 87 degrees all night. I went down to the office and asked what they could do for us. They told us we would be taken care of throughout this ordeal. A week later Erickson's came back and picked up their fans and what not. After they took the fans, I asked the management if we were going to get some sort of discount on the rent for all these inconviniences. They basically said that it's not their problem.\r After this incident our A/C broke down. We have been waiting about a week and they have not done anything, this is summer in FLORIDA! it's just not right to leave people without A/C in the summer when they are paying you $1000 a month for rent.\r This community has no respect for privacy either, the pest control, maintenance, and management all have keys to your place! They have walked into our apartment while we were home without knocking or calling. They just had a big key ring in there hand when they walked in and were asked what they were doing they just say management sent them.\r This is by far the WORST management I have ever seen. The entire front office is full of sales people who are just that. They don't care about retaining residents they are just in it for the one time sale and then they could care less what happens to you while you're living there. We would break the lease and find another place if we weren't so close to the end of it. The best I can do is warn everybody about this place and hopefully the message gets out, DO NOT LIVE HERE! \r This is the worst management I have ever seen. I have lived in three other apartments in this same area and never once did I have a problem with any of them. more

Beware of the worst property manager you'll ever meet 1/13/2009

I am a proud homeowner here in Ft Myers, and I have never experienced a level of unnecessary denigration or heard of such ridiculous bullying of tenants that apparently goes on by Lynda Loethen, the property manager of THE ASHLAR.\r \r Within 10 min of arriving at the Ashlar (I went to help a friend clean her carpets) I found myself at the receiving end of a yelling match from the property manager, Lynda. Without so much as an introduction, Lynda, came rushing up the sidewalk pointing fingers and hyper-excitable for the fact my vehicle was 50 yards from the parking lot where I unloaded cleaning equipment. Then she accused me of breaking into the apartment I was about to clean while simultaneously trying to have my truck towed. \r \r I explained I was there to help a friend, apologized for any misunderstanding, and said I would move my truck if she simply asked or told me of a problem. But she insisted I pay the tow truck and get out. Through eyes that looked like she wanted to eat my innards, Mrs Loethen made comments to suggest she was going to prevent the move-in of the lady I was trying to help. She stormed off. I paid $150 right there in cash and I felt like I was just swindled by Mrs Loethen. (I didn't even get to clean carpets)\r \r As for The Ashlar, the facility looks nice enough, but ask around about Lynda, before you move in. She seems like a small minded person on a HUGE power trip and is notorious for terrorizing occupants at The Ashlar. I feel bad for the staff that don't have the courage to stand up to her and must work for her and the tenants that put up with her apparent need for control and belittling,\r \r The trustees or owners of the Ashlar would be wise to remove a person who lacks basic social and interpersonal skills like Lynda, their long time (and probably burned out) property manager. Until then, I will be the last person to recommend The Ashlar on Daniels as a place to live.\r \r Just an average guy who tried to help a friend.\r Pros: Looks nice on the oustide. Cons: Staff will control your every outdoor activity and are always watching to tow you. Hmm... Kickback? more
