Best

This is by far the best Thai restaurant I've ever been to. They cater to your taste. I like spicy food- my girlfriend likes mild food. We were both more than pleased. They are...

Worst

my boyfriend and i have eaten at many thai restaurants throughout the country, and this was by far the worst we have ever had. the pad kee mao, one of my favorite thai dishes, was...

horrible 9/9/2007

i didn't even get to taste anything to even review. instead, it took 2 hours to deliver and when i cancelled, the owner tried to divert my call, trying to pretend not to understand. this place is evil. do not EVER go there or order from there! Pros: nothing Cons: horrible more

I miss you, Ubol's Kitchen 7/3/2007

Formerly Ubol's Kitchen, this restaurant has a new owner and new chef. It's one of the most disappointing restaurant changes in recent memory. There's no lack of websites proclaiming the same. But, if you like a giant plasma screen showing Fox News and salty brown sauce, go ahead. We were one of two tables occupied and we didn't even get menus or water until 15 minutes in. I was tempted to call the take-out number and ask ""Hi, I'd like to place an order for my table?"" Just awful. Pros: There was oxygen Cons: Too long to list. So very sad. more

Change for the Worse 1/2/2007

If you look at some of the older reviews you will see how many people used to adore this place. Then look at the recent bad reviews which are the opposite. This is because the charming family that used to own Ubol's sold it - and the new owners replaced the chef.\r We went there this past weekend and I almost wept as we left. We ordered our old favorites, and when we got them - we could not even recognize the dishes! The curt response we got from our server was - different owner - different chef. My husband (who always finishes his food) left his entire dinner on the plate. We are in mourning for what used to be a wonderful place with outstanding food. I may miss their Thai dumplings and Panaang duck for years to come. more

Absolutely avoidable 12/8/2006

I'd had food delivered from here one time and regretted it- this was possibly the worst concoction of Pad Thai; it made me wonder how these folks have gotten by without getting brickbats. There are some very good joints in the vicinity- I fail to understand why anyone would even consider going here. Cons: BAD FOOD more

absolutely terrible 10/9/2006

we ordered food for delivery and instead of getting our thai summer rolls, we received iceburg lettuce stuffed in rice wrap. there was absolutely nothing else inside- no meat, no sprouts, no cilantro?? and we paid $5 for 2 of these lettuce rolls. to make things worse, we found this out after the delivery guy left. would NOT recommend. more

simply terrible. 8/23/2006

my boyfriend and i have eaten at many thai restaurants throughout the country, and this was by far the worst we have ever had. the pad kee mao, one of my favorite thai dishes, was barely recognizable. the noodles were covered in thick fishy sauce, which overwhelmed any other possible flavors in the dish. it lacked sweetness, tang, and any essence of basil, all of which should be present in kee mao. the vegetables in red curry sauce were equally bad. the only flavors of this dish were extreme sweetness and spice, which sat heavily both in the watery coconut milk and in your uneasy stomach. how could this place have gotten such good reviews? we may never know. Pros: moderately cheap Cons: awful tasting, feels bad to eat more

Thai food cooked to perfection! 3/7/2006

This is by far the best Thai restaurant I've ever been to. They cater to your taste. I like spicy food- my girlfriend likes mild food. We were both more than pleased. They are also very reasonably priced. It's definitely worth a try. more

I love this place . . . 2/18/2006

This restaurant is steps from my apartment, and my girlfriend and I are regulars. The service is awesome! The atmosphere is fun, with the Bee Gees videos on the televisions. The food is really, really great, better than all of the other thai restaurants in the neighborhood. They are open late, and they are cheap. The lunch specials are one of the best values in Astoria. We love it! Pros: Great Staff, Great Food, Great Prices Cons: none, none, none more

Come back Ubol's!! 2/4/2006

02-24-07 (date is showing for an old review from 2006 - when Ubol's was good)
\r My husband and I were regulars at Ubol's from the time we moved in across the street, for about 2 years. It was the first meal I had the day we moved in, so it's always held a special place in my heart. We started noticing the food changing recently - Chicken Panaeng used to be my FAVORITE - the best I'd ever had anywhere. The chicken then became rubbery and bland, the sauce really oily. Not only was the Chicken Panaeng I loved gone, all the other dishes just weren't good anymore. The Spicy Pork in the Garden, the Crispy Duck with Basil - no more.
\r We then found out Ubol's was transferring over to this new restaurant ""Arunee"" and we were heartbroken. All the staff had been so kind and accomodating, and always knew my voice over the phone when I ordered takeout. I wanted to cry when their sign went down and the bright yellow eyesore went up. We've tried Arunee 3 times and it just hasn't been good. Please oh please come back Ubol's. We are crushed you're gone. :(\r

\r Ubol's gets the ""Highly Recommended""\r Anuree gets the ""Average"" more

Fantastic Thai Food!! 4/16/2005

So delicious and authentic Thai food. Staff is so friendly...I love the chicken maseman (I probably spelled that wrong) but every dish i've had there was delicious. Also, I love the fact that they deliver at almost any time of the evening (mush later than most places in Astoria). Pros: Open Late, Deliver Late, Friendly staff more

Spicy Pork in the Garden. 1/11/2005

This is the best thai food in New York, particularly if you order the Spicy Pork in the Garden and the Crispy Duck. Get the appetizer sampler to start. more

Thai Wine Who Knew? 12/9/2004

We love a find!Thai Wine..Plums a hint of Ruby Port a touch of Concord, some muscat, save a sip for dessert the Mango Sticky Rice this is as good a wine/ food match as I've had this year. $20 List has a Malbec worth the price. Wineturtle let Susy our waitress pick for us..We said at $8-12 entrees just keep bringing them out.about half way thru each dish she asked the things we liked about the dish and as the night moved on the food got closer to our ideal Thai taste. Boi the owner dropped by to say Hello and played a Tape for us shot in Thailand....A Jaw dropper. Go..Its A Good Thing Pros: $20 Winelist, Low corkage fee, Knowledable service more

yum 9/14/2003

wow. for a neighborhood that seems to be inundated with a slew of thai restaurants, ubol's remains the best. the food is consistently fantastic and flavorful. when you ask for a dish spicy - look out! i HIGHLY recommend the mock duck for those vegetarians out there. more

Better Thai food than in Thailand 4/18/2003

Awesome Thai, you cannot go wrong. It is worth the trip to Astoria, no doubt. Pros: inexpensive, delicious, service Cons: decor, location more
